  1. This sounds insane but if you could sign any of the three big "Jays are finalists" types over the past two years you might actually take Sasaki due to his age and how little he is getting paid
  2. Leave it to Ross to actually finish in 2nd place on his first big FA signing of the year lol
  3. On another note I am pleasantly surprised at how good the articles have been lmao I was expecting some low quality clickbait but we've been getting some good statistical analysis. Of course I didn't expect Davy to write here but the other writers have been great too
  4. If he could merely get results to match the .323 xwOBA we could live with that. The defense is holding and his baserunning is still surprisingly elite-ish. He needs to move down in the lineup though. Ideally, we'd have enough good hitters to bat him 6th.
  5. 71 million on that?? Wow
  6. It’s not the “all in” it’s the “hold on tight”
  7. I wonder if Vlad actually cares about the years. 10 years/450 mil would saddle the team with quite the tax burden. 15/450 would lessen the load considerably and I wonder if he really cares about possible FA contracts from age 36-40 when we are talking about that much dough.
  8. Steamer projects him to have a 103 wRC+ which is 3% better than average.
  9. Most of this doesn't make any sense to me. It's a bunch of non-sequiturs strung together, some of which aren't even factual. Yeah I get the criticism here but I don't think it will kill the team to have him play 2B for a year. Making the switch in Bo's walk year might do more harm than good. Just don't make the mistake of keeping Gimenez at 2B in year two like they did with Varsho.
  10. Yeah you aren't wrong. Offense definitely gets paid more. That said, Gimenez isn't just good at defense, he's godly. Perhaps the Daulton Varsho of the infield and that's really valuable. Especially when he's projected to be a decent hitter and baserunner too.
  11. Zips teased his Jays Depth Chart today with a tweet. Someone compared it to the other AL East teams (can't find the tweet anymore) and it was about 6 wins behind the Yankees, 4 wins behind the O's and the same as the Red Sox. The Rays don't have theirs out yet.
  12. Yeah Black had a pretty disastrous year. Otherwise I think this would be a fine trade. But Black underperformed with the stick and moved down the defensive spectrum.
  13. I'd leave it the way it is this year. Gimenez will just pile up the OAA at 2B and Bo will probably be below average at SS. But if you swap them, Gimenez probably takes a hit and there's no guarantee that Bo automatically turns into a good 2B. Could be a learning curve there.
  14. This whole special budget thing is odd. I get it for Ohtani, who is a legitimate global superstar that would unlock more marketing opportunities for the team. But Soto is just a really good player. He's not a global superstar and frankly most people wouldn't even recognize him on the street in the US or Canada. You're telling me that the team can afford to spend 765 mil on Soto but not fractions of that on other good players? Like 180 on Bregman or 100 on Flaherty? Or even 60 on Scott? Or even 400 on Vlad? Further, given all of Bregman's playoff runs, he's probably just as recognizable as Soto and the marketability gap between the two isn't that great.
  15. I tend to agree when it comes to Moncada. Not sure he's any better than Clement. He does hit switch so we could platoon them a bit but then again we could also do that with Barger who projects better than Moncada anyway.
  16. Yeah they are probably screwed either way with Vlad. Don't re-sign him and he's a Top 10 hitter the next 5+ years somewhere, possibly with the Red Sox. Fans are livid. Sign him and the final 5+ years of the deal are a major albatross.
  17. My bad. You threw out the standard "Ross can't sign anybody because the team sucks" post with regard to the remaining FAs and Tony Taters is like the 2nd or 3rd best guy left so forgive me for thinking you were talking about him. Teo has been more talked about than anyone so I wrongly assumed you meant him too. With the added nuance of your quoted post, I can now say that you have a very solid viewpoint, even though you like to venture into jaysblue territory (might as well tar and feather him while I'm at it) by making overly whiny posts to vent your frustration every once in a while. But I see what you are saying now and I agree that the state of the franchise does affect them more, especially when it comes to the Top Tier FAs (the true "impact" guys as you say) because the top teams will be in on them and the offers seemingly all top out around the same. The Tony Taters of the world are more worried about pure cash so we can still sign those overpaid turds. We actually don't disagree that much.
  18. If you didn't my mistake. But what free agents are you in fact ripping the team for not signing then? You are definitely complaining about the lack of Free Agent signings in general, but when pressed on two of them you actually think they shouldn't sign one (Tony) and don't care about the other (Teo)? What FAs are you talking about here?
  19. Rips the team for not signing 2 WAR OFers like Teoscar to 25 mil a year Also rips the team for theoretically signing 2 WAR OFers like Tony Taters to 25 mil a year
  20. If the team is going to give him 400+ million, I think there is some wisdom on giving him a 15-16 year deal, especially if the team is going to be in the luxury tax bracket moving forward since it will save the team money by lowering the tax hit. -15-16 year deal which takes him through his age 41 season lol -see if you can rip up the final year of arb (it shaves a year off his deal but he can claim a larger FA contract) -give him a signing bonus (try and avoid Canadian taxes) -stuff it with as many deferrals as possible (helps lower his present day value for the team, he can avoid taxes and gets a larger sticker shock)
  21. Do you really think that free agents like Anthony Santander won't sign here for reasons other than money? If the Jays really wanted him they could sign him tonight. They just don't think he's worth what he's asking for and apparently all of the other teams agree.
