  1. Looks like Bethancourt is actually a decent baserunner, particularly for a C. His sprint speed was 53rd percentile the past couple of years. So he can pinch run for Kirk late in games too lol Minor league deal gives us some roster flexibility through the spring as well.
  2. This isn't saying much but after Grandal it seems like Bethancourt was probably the top free agent catcher on the board. He has a cannon behind the dish but not much else.
  3. God I want to see Pete Alonso in a Jays uni Just bat them Bo-Vlad-Taters-Polar Bear and watch the dingers fly
  4. Can anyone explain to me what the Cubs are doing? What is the point of trading for Kyle Tucker if you're going to do f*** all afterward?
  5. Yeah he either said that or it was leaked but that could just be posturing.
  6. Sounds insane but just give him 14 years. Takes him through his age 40 season and the extra years will save the team in tax money significantly. I doubt he cares about hitting FA at age 39 and 40 anyway. Then stuff it with as many deferrals as possible.
  7. Beltran and Jones probably get in. King Felix was high enough I think he might have a chance in Year 10?
  8. Alomar/Olerud/Molitor were one hell of a trio but it was the good ole days when they didn't know who was actually good or not so they didn't bat back-to-back-to-back. Olerud was hitting 5th behind Joe Carter with a slashline of .363/.473./599 lol
  9. I think it will get done too but it will happen right before the stated deadline in February or whatever it is. Like you said in your other post, the Jays obviously have the cash and he's the one star player who will seemingly take their money. Both sides are going to posture back and forth but Vlad will budge a little and get 90% of what he wants. I'm just hoping he does the right thing and takes shitloads of deferrals.
  10. You're right, there isn't really a good explanation. Pretty similar players. I think Pete is finding this out along with the rest of baseball. His market has cratered.
  11. As for the Red Sux and the Tigers,: -the Red Sox are a normal team like us. They haven't signed a QO FA yet so they have to give up a 2nd and $500k in Intl Money. -I can't tell if the Tigers are revenue sharing recipients or not. Those *******s doled out a gazillion dollars to Miguel Cabrera so I sure hope not but I think they are. If not they are in the same boat as the Sox, if they are a recipient they have to forfeit a 3rd rounder.
  12. Alonso makes sense for the Cubs. I don't know how much this will matter but keep in mind that those idiots exceeded the luxury tax threshold by a whopping $570k last year. That designates them as a CBT payor, and since they have yet to sign a QO free agent, they will have to forfeit their 2nd and 5th round picks as well as $1M in international money if they sign Alonso . The Jays barely got under the CBT threshold so we aren't a CBT payor. And since we signed Santander already (giving up our 2nd and $500k in Intl Money), we would merely have to forfeit a 3rd rounder if we sign Alonso. Maybe that gives us a leg up? Probably so if Alonso is looking for something short term. Hard to see the Cubs outbidding us for one year of Alonso when they also have to give up a 2nd, 5th and the intl money.
  13. Yeah after all the "Jays are silver medalists" takes they already had a pre-canned "the Jays are panicking" take lined up and were going to use it no matter what. Even if Santander signed for HALF of what many in the media predicted.
  14. Good question. The Tigers definitely seem like they are in on him. Maybe the Yankees? Mariners are too cheap.
  15. I'd be all for Bregman. Add him, a starting pitcher, and tinker with the bullpen and I think the team could compete for the AL East. But I'm not sure the Jays are willing to pony up for him. Seems like Alonso and Profar are doable but I'm not sure about Bregman.
  16. Maybe we could get him on a 2 year deal
  17. The prices are dropping! We might be able to get Profar for a lot cheaper than we think. I didn't expect us to get Taters for 5/70. Factor in deferrals and maybe we can get Profar for 3/36 which would be a steal compared to Joc Pederson (2/37), Teoscar (3/60), Tyler O'Neil (3/49), etc.
  18. Yeah Profar in the leadoff spot is nice. And if you think his breakout is real (and it very well might be) you can get a really good hitter at a relatively decent price.
  19. It will be interesting to see what they do with them all. If we don't sign anymore bats you could just keep them all and try to platoon them at 3B and DH/LF and keep the rest as depth on the bench or in AAA. But if we sign someone like Alonso then we need to trade some as that will take up the DH spot and entrench Taters in LF. Surely some of them could fetch an interesting bullpen arm or AAA starting pitcher.
  20. Would love to start a tradition of throwing potatoes onto the field after every Santander home run. I know it's not feasible but I'd love to take a crack at hitting Aaron Boone square in the dome with my 65 mph fastball.
  21. Nothing makes me scroll right past a post faster than when I see mention of the "AA years"...
  22. Keep in mind the joke park dimensions at Orioles Park probably played a factor
