  1. Padres should trade the Jays some international money to help sweeten the pot
  2. Is Roki Sasaki a young man of courage and honor who is willing to do the right thing? Or is he a coward who wants to take the easy way out? We will find out shortly
  3. Tell Alonso and Tony Taters that the first one to sign on the dotted line of their 4 year 80 million dollar contract offer gets the job After they panic and both sign we will lead the league in home runs lol
  4. Don't forget Tony Taters in LF for 6-7 days a week
  5. I don't know why he hates player options so bad. You generally want the players to opt out of the final years of their deal, especially when you are signing 30-somethings to multi-year deals in FA. The only time you generally wouldn't would want the options would be if you extended a young star player who is opting out in year 30.
  6. You would either need to believe that Vlad is going to play more 3B until Pete's deal runs out or that both of them are okay with playing significant amounts of games as the DH Seems like a stretch to me. Unless I suppose, Pete is simply signing a short term deal and the team and everyone involved is fine with it despite it being a little awkward. The Jays been having problems with someone taking their money so that makes a little more sense.
  7. Screw it let's sign Pete Alonso and Tony Taters When they hit 100 combined homers next year the playoffs will be easy to make
  8. Jim is way too certain on how he thinks the offseason will play out but a lot of signings/trades are loosely connected dominos. For example, maybe the Jays don't get Sasaki and decide they need to sign Flaherty or Pivetta and can no longer afford Bregman.
  9. Santander and Alonso project about the same and are similar players. If Vlad is in the fold for 2025, and he probably will be, Santander might make more sense as a DH/LF who bats from both sides over Alonso as a DH/1B who hits righty.
  10. In addition to everyone you mentioned- Loperfido, Berroa, Clase, Wagner, Barger and Clement- we also have: Leo Jimenez, Schneider and Orelvis on the 40 man Roden and Kasevich aren't on the 40-man but are close to ready Lukes (40 man) and Stefanic (ST invite) are interesting older guys Some of these guys overlap a lot and I think it could be beneficial to trade them. We need more depth arms and another surefire bat. We might need some international money as well. Atkins usually knows what prospects he can move that won't come back to bite him.
  11. I see what you are saying but it could be painful throwing that slop against the wall to see what sticks. Might take half a year to figure out that you guessed wrong and you need to put the next buffalo boy in the lineup. I think they need more sure bets in the lineup. So sign or trade for someone and then they can keep some buffalo boys for depth and then move some to improve the team.
  12. Could also trade some of them. Not sure what you'd get though. Maybe a reliever or a depth starter to stash in AAA.
  13. First time hearing about the splitter being a factor. We are pretty good with that pitch (Gausman, Francis, etc.). And everyone else is going slider crazy which is leading to injuries.
  14. Maybe he likes the idea of having our back to back team Gold Gloves defense playing behind him! He's probably never seen a Front Office so dedicated to acquiring so many elite slap-hitting defenders before.
  15. Or maybe Jim is right and he has a childhood fear of earthquakes and tsunamis!
  16. It's probably a combination of: 1. Player friendly org. A lot of guys like Turner and Kikuchi have spoken about this. It seems like we really try and put the cherry on top by being extra friendly with team's families and things like that. 2. More tolerable fanbase and media market. This is kind of another check for being a more player friendly place to play. If the team sucks, LAD fans are probably calling in death threats. When we suck people just check out. We have milquetoast media too. 3. Keeping starting pitchers healthy. This only applies to our old MLB pitchers so hopefully he doesn't do any research beyond that though if he compares us to the Dodgers in this regard we win. 4. Best spring training facilities in the game. Pitchers spend over a month and a half at these facilities before the season starts. This kind of goes to staying healthy and being a player friendly org. I don't know that we necessarily offer up anything special with regard to endorsement opportunities or anything like that. Maybe there is some SportsNet loopholes that give us a leg up.
  17. I doubt he comes here but usually we are a finalist because we are shoving a shitload of money at the player. We basically force our way into being a finalist. In this instance, every team in the league can offer him about the same amount of money. We will probably be a bridesmaid again but there is something about the franchise that he is highly interested in and it's not money. And because we stick out like a sore thumb compared to the two SoCal teams, whatever that thing is could be a strike against them and could push us over the top.
  18. Still a good number of interesting lefties in FA. I'm going to assume Tanner Scott is no longer an option but there's Jalen Beeks, Andrew Chafin, AJ Minter and Danny Coulombe who stand out as borderline setupmen who are lefties. Trading a Buffalo Boy for a reliever seems like it could make some sense as well.
  19. I was looking at the bullpen on Roster Resource and it's in much better shape. There's even some decent relievers in AAA now (Burr, Walker). If we sign a SP and move Yariel to the pen it's looking even better. Not sure what purpose Pop serves though. I'd like to see them get a lefty in there instead of him. One who is good enough to setup.
