  1. Well, the lockout is basically just politics. The Republican owners versus the Labour Party players. Each side has their leader, except instead of it being Trump versus Clinton or Trump versus Biden it's just Trump versus another Trump. That being said, I have come to appreciate that this has turned into one of the very few places completely devoid of politics. Everywhere else on the net has become Let's Go Brandonized. Social media, sports websites, stock market websites, porn websites....I think that covers all my browsing.
  2. Whatever stupidity comes from the CBA farce over the next two months before things get serious, I really, really hope they keep it to themselves and don't try to one-up each other in the media to gain sympathy like they did with the pandemic negotiations.
  3. I'm so used to seeing "would of" from Olerud I actually got a seizure realizing "of" was the right word here this time.
  4. Or a championship anywhere. Perhaps he sees the writing on the wall that the Braves got lucky and him on the Blue Jays would make them a strong contender, maybe even the Vegas favourite. Unless you meant this from the perspective that he just won a World Series and is looking for more $$$$ and fit than rings.
  5. This only happens if everyone involved thinks Guerrero can head back to third. Otherwise I'd love Donaldson back. As for the douchebag comments, sure. But he wasn't the same level as Stroman. Donaldson was intense like Bautista. Maybe a bit of a bully to the FO. But he wasn't intentionally causing unsolicited public drama like Stroman was. He's doable on this roster if Atkins holds no grudges.
  6. The point of getting Chapman would be to add depth. In this scenario you would have Chapman AND Espinal backing him up, unless he (or Biggio) went the other way in a trade.
  7. This signing is worth it just to troll the moron who started all the useless threads recently and hopefully gets him to rage quit the board and being a Jays fan.
  8. When have those years been? I recall quite a few free agent signings or win-now trades throughout the history of this team. Just because they don't work out doesn't mean they didn't try. Yeah okay a couple years of Ricciardi's tenure were pretty rough but that was it.
  9. Hopefully he shits the bed in the first two months Lindor-style then the Rangers are willing to deal him plus $50 million back to the Jays for a low level prospect lol.
  10. What the hell are you guys yammering on about closer experience? The guy had half a season of closer experience for a basement team and judging by the numbers wasn't great at it. He's basically Cliff Politte, put in the role by default. That being said, this was a rather aggressive signing both in terms of timing and dollars so I subscribe to the Terminator and L54 view of things that the team thinks they can get something more out of the guy rather than the Grant view that they overpaid for a shitbag. So I remain cautiously optimistic. Not all buy low candidates are necessarily found in the discount bin. Something you have to pay for quality and act fast.
  11. Just chiming in with this again. Ray will not be getting more money than Berrios. And if somehow he does, it should not be with the Jays. 6/150 is a ridiculous overpay. 5/100 is reasonable but I would still have a mixed opinion on that. I prefer some of the other suggestions in here.

    NHL Thread

Making fun of the Habs for a bad start to the year when their goalie has personal issues is kind of lame. Especially since they just made the finals last year, better than anything the Leafs have done lately.
  13. The argument I always heard about Florida baseball attendance sucking is that the sport occurs during the summer when Floridians are doing anything other than watching sports. NFL, college sports is fall time and NHL/NBA is winter.
  14. What's with all the Rays to Montreal chatter? Is that just a board meme now or has something come up recently to make this more realistic?
  15. No...no he does not. I wish for him to continue to do things that are detrimental to his organization. Also, imagine having a public conniption fit over Steven f***ing Matz LMAO. Cohen is the incel of MLB owners.
  16. Yeah even Kawhi gave more lip service to the Toronto crowd than this dude lol
  17. When it's not locked behind The Star's paywall, you can tell it's bad.
  18. Berrios signing > Jays signing Verlander for a year. Can't win them all. In fact, if you can win more than 5% of them, you're doing pretty well against 29 other teams.
  19. People use this like it's some kind of insult to Jeter. This is more of a function of the Yankees being able to stack their team.
  20. I'll go on record to say that Robbie Ray should not get more money than Jose Berrios. And if he does, it shouldn't be with the Jays.
  21. This is a decent deal. Was about to comment about the Matz QO for context but people already beat me to the punch. But if you look at it in the context of the Rodriguez deal, it's not too out of line. 5/77 versus 7/131 for a similar aged but superior pitcher. I think people are coming off of the sticker shock from Bauer and Cole and are thus judging the signing as a better deal for the Jays than it really is. Those teams just overpaid for top tier talent. One step down from top tier and I think the Jays and Tigers have judged the market about right. Probably made the market for pitchers this year.
  22. I'm glad a team from the AL Central is spending some dough. We can't have the White sox cake walk to a playoff spot being .500 against non-division opponents. Yes, the Tigers ARE getting good, fast. Not AL East good, but they are the second best team in that division now with those two additions.
  23. Miley would have been a nice addition for the Jays. But there was no way he was going to fall that far down/up the standings. Why didn't the Reds at least try to trade him?
  24. 1987 Minnesota Twins. That was easy.
  25. Raptors aren't THAT young. Their top players all have four or more years under their belt except Barnes and Achiuwa and several already have rings from 2019. It's actually a nice mix between young veterans and rookies.
