  1. Because if Clemens was black, or if Bonds was the only one singled out, a narrative could be spun that the racist writers are punishing a black man for being the best player ever and most efficient user of steroids. Something they might let by if he were white. Maybe they would be shamed/coerced into doing the right thing and voting him in to avoid such charges. Basically two wrongs make a right type of scenario. But alas, out of the many things wrong with the HOF voters, racial bias doesn't seem to be one of them.
  2. I wish Clemens was black just so the media could put a racist spin on it. Usually I dislike that kind of narrative but the BBWAA deserves to be shamed in any way possible for this embarrassing sham.
  3. I mistook that as year which is bad enough then I read it again...month.
  4. Pandemic will be done by 2024 and won't come again until 2120. There's room for more MLB in Canada.
  5. I guess that's one person who listened to my stock picks from a couple years ago!
  6. Speak for yourself
  7. My proposal - which in no way would ever get accepted but if I was a baseball czar - would be each player gets six years service time, flat. So if a player gets called up on May 30, 2022, he becomes a free agent on May 30, 2028. Yes, in the MIDDLE of the season. The only exception to this would be September call-ups. So you get a plethora of September call-ups which is basically free time for the teams and a chance for prospects to get some playing time at the MLB level and something for fans of non-contending teams to cheer for. Service time manipulation is dead. If someone is good enough to make the team out of the spring, he makes it.
  8. I actually like the idea of getting a draft pick if your top prospect succeeds. Not in any way as a bargaining chip in the CBA, but as a feature for baseball. Just get rid of the ambiguous and arbitrary top 150 rank and have it apply to any rookie who rakes. It will encourage teams to spend just that little bit more in player development, especially if some dude out of nowhere takes a big leap.
  9. Dave Stieb should be in before Lester ever touches the HOF. Hell, I'll say the same about Harold Baines too. Lester should be a guy who falls off the ballot first year, with some votes, maybe 10.
  10. The thing is with moving the guy to third, is that he appears to have the defensive catcher tools. Why would the team want to waste that? Rather get some value in a trade and get a prospect who can play a position of need (MIF or SP). The only issue with that is I can the Jays can have seller's remorse real quick if the two guys penciled in on the 25 man don't pan out. I'm still sore over AA's demolishing of the Jays' excellent catcher depth in a span of six weeks and rolling with Arencibia and Dickey's bitch.
  11. Awkward, socially inept weirdo who outperformed his given natural talent through hard work and dedication who wanted to expose cheats before giving up and joining them then being the best at it. You didn't have to tell me this, I already knew that.
  12. Raptors are 11.5 point favourites against Utah tonight. I'm going to take a stab without doing any reading up on the situation that their entire team is out with COVID lol. Guess this and the Bucks game makes up for the couple games the Raptors were screwed.
  13. If Moreno is hyped half as much by the league as he is in this forum, maybe the Jays should consider trading him. Prospect for prospect.
  14. Sources tell me that I don't really care either way, but this thread is a proxy for a political fight.
  15. This is why it's so, so good that the Jays are owned by Rogers. Rogers will get their cut one way or another and have pretty good incentive to keep a strong team on the field. Rogers might be the best positioned owner out of the 30 teams to take advantage of 2022 viewing trends no matter where they head.
  16. Yay for my bets.
  17. Don't forget that the character clause was made at a time when...let's just say the bar for character was much lower than it would be today. Dude was outwardly racist...that's fine. Basically if you weren't a mafioso or serial killer you passed that clause. Today the standard is controversial political opinions.
  18. Yes, but it also sounds like Passan is doing some proactive explaining to defend his choice of Schilling before the Twitter crowd beats up on him. "I find everything that Curt Schilling has done from the day he was born up until today EXCEPT for the times he has spent on a baseball pitching mound to be completely abhorrent". He can give his logical reasoning for voting without having to cite that one very convenient example.
  19. Anyone care enough to go through the forum search function and find a post showing otherwise? Or have we already established that Jim is a liar and him being caught contradicting past posts wouldn't be any great revelation worth outing?
  20. It does seem like particularly weird timing during the lockout where no team can even negotiate with him so he can at least find his price. Doesn't hurt to sign a one year contract with a contender.
  21. The more I think about it, the more I like this McNeil suggestion. He profiles as someone who the Jays tend to do well with. Kind of late bloomer who pulled back a bit recently and worn out his welcome on his current team. Shows sporadic signs of pop. Story similar to Encarnacion but can get on base. 25 home runs with .380 OBP which I think is achievable for him at the Rogers Centre is a decent offensive replacement for Semien. Not sure why the Mets are willing to sell low though and how low is low.

Better than the bush league actions of the NBA. Raptors gonna put out an expansion team for the next three games minimum ugh. Totally f***ing up my bets this year.
  23. Am I the only one who thought this was referring to cocaine at first?
  24. Crypto is just glorified FX trading. And in FX trading, unlike the stock market, it's a zero sum game. I like to play games that are biased in my favour. The crypto traders will learn the hard way about their zero sum game soon enough.
  25. I don't get the narrative around this. With Buxton locked up maybe the Twins think Martin is expendable now? Maybe they figured they couldn't extend Berrios? Might as well bitch at this team for dealing Stroman then turning around and dealing the better half of that haul for Berrios.
