  1. My guess is pro innings 100-150 took a toll. He's had an offseason to build that up. Plus he's built like a truck so his endurance should improve. I'm also betting that he'll be pulled out of a lot of games after the 5th when the Jays are up like 8-1. That will push up his counting stats like wins, protect his rate stats and keep him effective for the year. He will pull in Cy Young votes.
  2. Currently getting my season bets in with my bookie to back up my opinions with my cash. I'm usually not one of those types to go super bullish on Jays prospects but I've seen enough out of this guy to make that statement. Plus his rotation mates aren't going to put up THAT high of a bar for him to beat.
  3. Maybe this is too much of my Yankee hate in me being hopeful, but I don't see Donaldson meshing well with them or in the New York media.
  4. Manoah is the best starter the Jays have. If it isn't apparent now, it will be by September.
  5. I completely echo this sentiment. I don't find him to be an upgrade anywhere. I don't care about his attitude problem, but it doesn't make his case either.
  6. I wish Vegas was as biased against the Jays as these dumbass rankings are. Right now they are only +180 to win the division and third lowest odds to win the World Series at +850. Bet365 has a special to boost their payout to +1100 so I took it. Not even going to bother with those division odds though. On what planet are the White Sox the second best team?
  7. Ignoring my political opinions about this, an unvaccinated person from Toronto visiting a venue in Toronto is different than an unvaccinated person from a foreign country crossing the Canadian border. It opens an entire can of worms over who gets special privileges and who does not. That's why the difference. Also, as a Jays fan, we should want as many restrictions as possible for opposing players
  8. Yeah this makes up for last week's shameful debacle. Lakers games coming up they will still be without Davis. Clippers are a walking corpse. I can concede tomorrow's game if the Raptors win at least two of the next three against the LA teams. Two tough road games against the 76ers and Bulls but after that they have a reasonably easy schedule with most games at home. I stated at the start of the year 45 wins for this team and that number is looking like the most likely outcome. 9-7 the rest of the way. I don't know what to make of Trent. He seems to go off at totally random intervals all year then is invisible for the next 5-10 games.
  9. I would say this would be a great minor league signing. A bit of a head scratcher to grant a 28 yo with three cups of coffee at the MLB level under his belt an MLB deal. They must really like his stuff. MiLB numbers show high K and high BB rates.
  10. Stieb, Alomar, Halladay, Bautista. My reasoning being one player per decade/defining era for the team and those four would be the face of the franchise for their respective eras.
  11. You know, in every other normal business, increasing your local revenues results in an increase to your profits. And that in itself is the reward. I'm really getting sick of these whiny so-called have-not small market team owners and baseball's urge to coddle them and cater to their every whim.
  12. October 27, 2004 comes to mind.
  13. Is this going to be like NBA tampering level bad where about a billion dollars worth of contracts are announced an hour after the deadline even though "no one is supposed to be talking to one another"?
  14. This just seems like the natural evolution of ripping people off. I'm old enough to remember when games were on CTV and CBC. Then TSN came along and you had to get cable. Then Sportsnet came and they placed that on a different package from TSN. I'm at the point now where I am comfortable with the radio broadcast. Most of the summer I'm out somewhere then driving back in my car anyways.
  15. Actually the big hang up on the Activision-Microsoft deal is this very issue. The anti-trust watchdogs are sniffing around if Microsoft is going to make all their games exclusive to Xbox. Microsoft has already promised not to. So it should be fine...for a little while lol.
  16. At this rate and with expanded playoffs they are going to have to hold the World Series in a neutral southern location in December.
  17. Yeah, Gallo isn't a poor hitter. He's a stupid one. And a whiny little bitch. Imagine an NFL coach whining that an opponent's defensive formation makes it more difficult for his QB to pass to his right, when it's known that most of his passes go that way. Would be laughed out of the game. You don't like something? Make adjustments.
  18. The baseball fan in me thinks this shift banning is ridiculous. The degenerate gambler in me, however, thinks this is an opportunity to pound the overs on total runs/hits for the first two weeks of the season until the lines adjust.
  19. Career .049 batting average. That might be the worst all time for anyone outside of 0-fers. Too lazy to check for myself.
  20. For some reason, this nostalgia reminded me of this ad: It's funny looking back at that old school technology. But as a kid seeing this ad, I thought it was pretty cool lol.
  21. No thanks! I get just as good updates from following the posts on this board and Reddit links posted here. This occasional good content is what keeps me coming back to this dumpster fire board after nine years.
  22. A likely fake account put up an obvious troll post and you guys for real believe he was offered 7 years $100 million? Has the whole world not yet learned what the internet is yet? I'm going to break the post down for you. Fake Josh (or real Josh, actually doesn't matter) is calling Soto a f***ing idiot for not taking the deal.
  23. There's another side of looking at it. Rule 5 is a way for cheap/poor/bad teams to try to get better in a way that avoids paying big salaries. Pick a near-MLB ready player and pay him the league minimum to take up a roster spot (you don't care since you're tanking anyways). Hope you catch lightning in a bottle and have a cost-controlled player. Let's put it this way using an extreme example. If a team was to roster 26 Rule 5 picks and go for 40 wins on the season, would the union be happy with it? Good teams trying to compete can't afford to use up a roster spot with a Rule 5 pick. They would rather fill it with a veteran back up and pay him $1-$3M.
  24. We all seem to be on the same page now, but I figured I would beat the dead horse. If the Jays had Ozzie Smith at short I'd say sure go ahead and try it. But Bichette is already...not great at SS. Do you really want to roll the dice on Guerrero that weight loss will lead to an improvement from atrocious 3B defense to average? A Guerrero-Bichette-Biggio-Freeman combo is probably the worst infield defense in the league. That's putting a ton of pressure on pitching staff. I think the starters can handle it but do you really want to repeat the 2021 bullpen experience?
  25. Freeman is a nice dream, but the only way he makes sense for the Jays is if they decide to go full Yankees payroll. Freeman contract plus a supposed extension to Vlad is locking up $500 million to the 1B/DH slot.
