  1. Could be the first time in years where the East is actually better than the West. Assuming the Wizards and Raptors aren't a mirage, plus the Bulls and Knicks no longer stink. Only three really bad teams in the East. The Celtics could end up missing the playoffs if they aren't careful.
  2. I'm cautiously optimistic about my bets, but still a long way to go. Especially since you numbskulls are starting to warm up to the team, preparing them for an 8 game skid. Best road record in the league, 4-0. This is what this team thrives on, steady defensive basketball on the road. Still, a good regular season team that likely sees a first round exit. For a rebuild that's pretty good. Barnes up to #2 on the betting board for ROY, +400.
  3. Agreed with everything up to and including this.
  4. glory has this obsession with "growth of the game" and likes to overanalyze potential scenarios for it. Some overweight 13 year old who thinks he is going to be the next TikTok esports star isn't going to start watching baseball because the Yankees are in the World Series. Me on the other hand, I want these ratings to be atrocious. The worst seen in 40 years. That'll be a clear signal to the owners and PA that the game is fragile and they best not dick around with the CBA negotiations.
  5. Remember when the NHL thread was being trolled mercilessly about the Habs being in the finals last year? Team with the 12th most wins in baseball is in the World Series. There's not even 12 playoff spots in baseball.
  6. People talking about how the farm is thin after the top 3. Well yeah, when you just promote a bunch of guys over the last three years that tends to happen. Imagine if Kirk and Manoah spent the year in the farm. The team would have won 85ish games but everyone would be fapping over the depth of the farm. Perspective, people. The Jays are basically locked at most position players barring trade or injury for the next 3-5 years. Plenty of time to replenish the farm. As for debating whether the Jays have a 2-3 year window or are perpetual contenders...EVERY competitive team has a 2-3 year window because you can't realistically look that much further ahead. This team has payroll flexibility and a ton of cheap, quality players. There is a LOT that can be done to accelerate, lengthen or completely f*** up that window of contention.
  7. 1-3 +6 point differential. This is peak 2020's Raptors basketball.
  8. Exactly. That's why I say wait two months before anointing him the real deal. All I know is he played a big part in embarrassing the Celtics. A rare feat which is all I can ask for when a Toronto team is in Boston. Hope he does that consistently against the Sixers too.
  9. What I find kind of weird reading this thread is that in other posters' fantasy SP scenarios they have Manoah ranked #3-#5. Pretty sure he's the team's best pitcher right now or sharing a spot with Berrios as 1/2. I trust Manoah to put up a better 2022 season than one-year deals coming off of injury that's for sure.
  10. Matz QO is low hanging fruit. I'm 50/50 on it but you do it to fill up roster spots with back end innings eaters rather than go into FA with only three definitive options for SP.
  11. Sounds like a dude who is in desperate need of some recognition. He did something covertly - breaking protocol - then randomly spilled the beans all over Twitter how he personally saved the careers of the team's best hitters. This is not a good look on Barfield imo.
  12. Barnes was a beast last night but he needs to repeat that at least for another two months before I join that hype train.
  13. I placed my bets. Over 36.5 wins and for the Raptors to make the playoffs. We'll see who is right me or the naysayers. This team isn't in tank mode it has a lot of good young players. Just no one great. That's a recipe for a .500+ season and 6-8th seed in the east.
  14. There's no way Matz is going anywhere other than Toronto if they offer the QO. Might as well dip 1/15 in front of him and see if he bites.
  15. When signing the deal with Grichuk, this team obviously took a chance that with his profile that they could coach him into something great. It didn't pan out. For the most part it has worked out for the Jays. A lot of excess value has been extracted from other teams' throwaway hitters since 2010. No need to constantly whine about one of the rare times it didn't really work out. If he had turned into the next Bautista or Encarnacion everyone would be panning over what a great deal that was.
  16. The obsession with Grichuk on this board is through the roof. The Jays aren't giving up extra assets in a trade just to dump his contract. This isn't the Pittsburgh Pirates. They Jays can absorb his salary for two years in exchange for okayish 4th OF production if that's what ends up happening. Trade scenarios like the one involving him and Donaldson at least make philosophical sense for both teams even if the exact trade details are up for debate. This one doesn't make a lick of sense.
  17. Hope the Astros cheat and win. f*** the Red Sox.
  18. 50 was my optimistic total. 45ish is my guess, maybe 43-47. I've totally drunk the Raptors Twitter kool-aid on Anunoby.
  19. Umm because it's 1983, and chasing/creating records also mean something to fans and franchises? I don't get this comment. Are you going to mock the leading "science" of centuries past of alchemy and using leeches as a medical cure as well? Pete Rose has a perfectly valid point. Striking out sucks. The Jays managed to hit bombs while striking out the least this year. Gallo should be better.
  20. The Vegas win total for the Raptors this season is 36.5. That's looking very juicy. This team isn't going to do f*** all in the playoffs but is still a good regular season team. The east isn't as chumpy as it once was so the Raptors won't rack up the wins against easy opponents like they have in the past but I can still see 45, maybe up to 50 wins.
  21. The outrage over Passan's tweet is stupid, but isn't he one of the guys who catered to this crowd and made baseball Twitter what it is today? I don't feel bad for the guy. You reap what you sow.
  22. I know I said my focus is on the extreme short term, but I don't see how NOT offering $600 million to Guerrero and Bichette is considered short term thinking. This team has a ton of payroll flexibility and some prospect capital. Those two guys are probably two of the most valuable trade assets in the game. If you give them long term contracts they go from that to untradeable unless the Jays pay a chunk of the salary. Focus on winning the next 2-3 seasons. Then depending on how things go, you can try to sign them at a later date or trade them for a decent haul. As for prospects, this team doesn't need a lot of prospects right now. Barring injury, suckage or trade, every position except 2B and 3B is locked up with good to great players for the next three years. And we don't know what's going to happen with Semien and Biggio. By the time the need arises for replacements, the team will have had three drafts to replenish the system plus any players coming back in trades.
  23. Putting up $600 million for two players is a recipe for disaster in baseball. I'd prefer the wait and see approach. The team's number #1 priority right now is the short term. Keep this team as of October 4th, 2021 as intact as possible for as long as you can. But at least for next year and the two after that. Hopefully one or more World Series championships is had by then.
  24. Yes I agree to all of this. Espinal is a bench player. We have had years of paper thin garbage MIF to witness and the second someone sees an obvious bench piece perform well, they want him promoted? Nah. Good teams have players like Espinal on the bench. Biggio too. But I'm willing to consider the idea of a Espinal/Biggio platoon type of situation at 3B (with the other guy as back up) with Semien at 2B for the coming year. Espinal, Grishuk, Biggio, Dickerson (or similar player) plus the catching situation would be one of the deepest benches this team ever had. Better than the World Series years. Ricciardi's benches might have been better because he knew how to fill out a roster. Just not with enough top end talent.
  25. It worked didn't it? Chatwood finally got jettisoned and the team traded for some competent relief pitchers. Then they settled in post-trade deadline. Blowing those couple of games early in the season may have resulted in the team winning several more late in the season. Charlie's always playing 4D chess. I actually wouldn't put it completely by him to be one of those passive-aggressive types.
