  1. People will be quick to dismiss Votto because of his last two years. He played through injury in 2022. He had surgery. He came off that surgery and didn't play last year until the end of June. It take time to find your groove coming off surgery even when you're young. He might be finished, or he might be finally healthy. How much different is a 38 and a 40 year old body? His statcast page looked pretty good in 21. We had a 40 year old Dave Winfield put up a .867 OPS for us in 92. We also won the world series. No harm in having a look.
  2. He got 3 swing and misses on 9 fastballs. That doesn't seem bad..lol. What are you going to get for him? Nothing. He still throws upper 90s and is working on adding secondary offerings. Putting him in Buffalo seems like the appropriate step.
  3. 91 wins. Can we win a freaking wild card game this year, please!
  4. 91 wins. Can we win a freaking wild card game this year, please!
  5. You mean you can't look at how the 2019, 2020, 2021 guys are developing and formulate an opinion. Some of our most expensive players signed during that period are no longer with the club so I doubt they'll make in impact 3 years from now. Why do you feel the need to defend Atkins at every turn. You put zero effort into actually determining if the Jays have a good international signing record or not compared to other teams. Your default is just Atkins is really good..lol.
  6. Last time I checked there are a lot of international players in the MLB. Moreno is the only player making an impact over quite a lengthy period of time. I have hope Orelvis could provide an impact. You saying they do Okay really isn't objective. If you compared their international signings to the other 30 teams since 2016 they wouldn't rank in the top half of the league.
  7. I just went through our international signings since 2016. Outside of Kirk signed by an area scout who's been with the club for 30 years it's been pretty ugly. Seriously, we need some new scouts..lol https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/international/2016/toronto-blue-jays/
  8. You may be right. I hope we can get more games out of Turner at third than I think we will. If he could play 50 or so times at third that would be great.
  9. I highly doubt that was the case..lol. While we're on the cultural topic. We talked about the obvious revenue potential Shohei Ohtani could bring. I wonder what type of cultural revenue bump Nimmala could bring if he developed into a star.
  10. 7.5 mil isn't completely insignificant. From a roster construction standpoint they aren't signing IKF or at least that early if they were serious about Chapman. I get it. Chapman was asking for 120 to 140 mil when they signed IKF. I think there was mutual interest from both sides, but they were 50+ mil apart on value when IKF was signed.
  11. What salary could you have moved? IKF's signing made Chapman impossible.
  12. Our 1st round draft picks since 2016. 2016 TJ Zeuch 2017 Logan Warmoth, Nate Pearson 2018 Jordan Groshans 2019 Alek Manoah 2020 Austin Martin 2021 Gunnar Hoglund 2022 Brandon Barriera 2023 Arjun Nimalla In fairness, the draft is part skill, but there's a whole lotta luck involved. Martin at the number 5 pick was number 2 on most boards. We haven't had a lot of success or luck depending on your thought on the draft. Hopefully Nimalla and or Barriera can have an impact on the club. We've only really hit on Manoah. We're due for a number 1 pick to have some success!
  13. Is it just me, or does Cole look fat.
  14. holy spring training over reaction. How about everyone making personal insults just delete those posts and let's keep the focus on baseball.
  15. Making a comment about a player after 2 games of spring training is ridiculous. I'm bored so I'm going to do it anyways..lol. My way too early hot take award goes to Orelvis Martinez. 6 PA and 3 walks. Very encouraging to see considering young players usually come in swinging trying to make an impression.
  16. we're only down by a touchdown. We still have time!
  17. There's a lot of risk reward with Belli. He had a much better year last year. The walk rate and chase rate are still garbage when they were very good during his peak years. He's 28. If he makes incremental improvement with the approach the underlying number could actually catch up. Confidence plays into chase rate and approach. Belli's really a guy who should be in camp seeing pitches and getting ready for the season. Boras is doing him no favours chasing a deal that isn't there.
  18. It was naturally wrong to suggest Davis was the next Babe Ruth after his first 50 or 60 ABs because it wasn't a very big sample size. It's equally ridiculous to suggest that the league had figured him out based on 50 PA towards the end. That's a small sample size too. He had 3 line outs in one game against Boston and a 400 foot fly ball out a couple games later against the Yankees in that stretch. As someone who's watched baseball my whole life, when players struggle they press and swing at pitches they would normally take. It's called a slump for a reason. Davis has a really good eye. That's a skill set that is really hard to teach. You can make mechanical adjustments to help increase contact. He's got swing and miss in his game, but he's also a short guy with a level swing. The bat stays in the zone a long time and creates a natural launch angle. He's got power. We saw enough of Davis to know that he's going to take his walks. He's got some swing and miss so he'll strike out and he's also got power so he'll do damage when he makes contact. There's a reason Steamer has him projected to be 13 percent above league avg with the bat. There's a high likelyhood his OPS is north of .750. There's a chance it could be north of .800. Schneider will be fine. He's a guy people should be excited to see this year.
  19. Springer bo Vlad Turner Biggio Kirk/Jansen Varsho IKF Kiermaeier. That leaves 3 spots on the bench. How you got? Schneider, Espi, Escobar, Vogelbach, Clement, Barger, Martinez, Lukes, Horowitz.
  20. I'm starting to think that picture I saw on Twitter in Dec was from a couple years ago when Kirk came to camp in decent shape in 21. Kid has ridiculous flexibility, reaction time and eye hand co-ordination. His framing and blocking skills are so good. His contact rates are super elite. Getting in shape would and 1 to 2 wins a season for the kid. How do you convince a guy to get in shape?
  21. It's entirely possible I'm being nostalgic and he's washed, but I didn't lie about his statcast page..lol I did say minor league deal!
  22. JD didn't have a spring training last year and has dealt with injuries. He set a modern day record for babip low for anyone with over 100 PA. He had a hard hit percentage of 51.3% and an xwoba of .325. He still grades out avg to above avg defensively. I don't think JD has been all that motivated in the past few years. He has 2 young kids. His wife is from Toronto. He wants to play in Toronto. I think the comfort level with Toronto and fighting for playing time that he could still have something to offer. There's no such thing as a bad minor league deal. He may not be willing to entertain one at this time, but you'd think if he wants to play that a minor league deal may be his only route soon enough.
  23. Davidi just tweeted it was a minor league deal. So thank goodness. I still think JD would have been the better gamble on a minor league deal.
  24. should have signed Donaldson to a minor league deal, but Atkins is allergric to alpha males. Escobar can't hit or field anymore.
