    So Boni is going to hit in the 9th. Yeah....

    The sustained winner thing can still happen, provided that guys like Hutch can backfill for guys like Johnson once he leaves; Gose for Rasmus; Lawrie develops into something... To be perfectly honest though, with the current organizational structure and beliefs, I think going big in trades was the only chance they had to build a winning club. How many good players have they developed over the last 20 years? Certainly not enough to make me think they could construct the bulk of a championship calibre roster from young talent.

    The Jays will likely have to go on one more run to make things interesting; like an 8 gamer or so. They'll also have to continue to beat Baltimore head-to-head.

    Why not just flip JB and EE? JB's happy and they both still hit in the first inning.

    So you think AA is holding out on Boni so he can acquire a veteran player in case one of four teams in the NL might become sellers? This seems totally illogical to me. Illogical to make our team weaker for the chance of something happening; illogical that Boni holds enough value for a team (other than the Jays I guess) to insist that he's part of a deal. If a team is selling veterans, they're likely to be looking at a better rebuild candidate than a 28 year old defensive liability who has had one non-terrible offensive season in his career.

    Why does he have to wait it out? To get a meaningless prospect from an NL team? I don't think this team has the luxury of putting out a lesser team for the chance of making an underwhelming deal.

    Disagree with this. Kawasaki seems more fundamentally sound than Boni/Izturis (approach at the plate, bat control) which likely allows him to perform better with less playing time relative to his counterparts.

    I can't imagine anyone is upset that Reyes is coming back; it's Kawasaki relative to Boni/Izturis that blows.

    Take for instance, his answer in English when asked if he had a final message to the fans that have embraced him: “I am now hungry.” HOW DO YOU SEND THIS GUY DOWN?

    I just don't get why in an "all-in" season, they're ignoring anything that gives them come incremental value. Sure Kawasaki isn't a world beater, but he's better than the alternatives.

    In the early 90s they stopped wearing the caps with the white front panel cap in favour of the solid blue because of superstitious reasons and ended up making the playoffs. It doesn't mean anything until the players make it mean something.

    I agree. It would be one thing if he was strictly a mascot, but he seemed to be a genuinely useful player. Also the best option at short in case Reyes needs the odd day off. Maybe they thought his schtick was becoming a bit of a distraction? Boy, if they go in a tailspin now, regardless of the reason, there's going to be a revolt about this decision.

    Or, they've noticed the DFA carousel that the Jays have used since the beginning of the year. Boy, am I ever glad that's stabilized.

    Missed the game last night and didn't know they had won until I woke up this morning. Just saw the highlight of Edwin chanting "Kaw-a-saki!" along with crowd. Just awesome stuff there.

    Seriously though, I do agree, for Kawasaki to stay he would need to be able to play a competent 2B. Not sure what his experience is there.
