  1. Looked good to me. Even if it was a bit down, it wasn't so far out of the zone that Jose needed to stand there and pose for five seconds in disagreement.
  2. Still don't feel like we're completely out of this game.
  3. Let me guess, you're single.
  4. Too bad, Melky swung at a few pitches that would have been ball four. Oh well, at least they're not rolling over.
  5. The JPA lack-of-walks saga is now being mocked south of the border as well: http://www.baseballnation.com/2013/5/24/4361548/j-p-arencibia-walks-strikeouts-good-gravy
  6. Cecil's emergence seems like a perfect example of why you don't go out of your way to acquire relievers. That, and their volatility from year-to-year (looking at you Lincoln).
  7. Isn't it more likely that short guys got the shaft because scouts had a pre-conceived notion of what a pitching prospect should look like and helped steer their organization away from the short pitchers in favour of the tall, lanky guys? And that it took data analysis to say that short pitchers are actually okay?
  8. Plus, it was Bucknor behind the plate. Can't assume anything won't be called a strike. And dramatically so.
  9. This honestly wouldn't surprise me, however I can't see why Beeston would have influenced the Snider/Lincoln deal, etc. Beeston is probably a large part of the problem, but I don't think AA is blameless here by any stretch.
  10. Well, it's easy (easier) to be a GM when you're in a rebuilding mode; dump salary and acquire prospects. When you actually have to construct a major league roster that's worthy of contending, that's when it becomes difficult. You can't hide behind what a prospect "might" become, you need to assemble a team that can produce wins.
  11. Maybe he realized that the organization doesn't have the competency or wherewithal to build a winner though draft and development. I'm pretty much resigned to the fact now that these deals were the only way that this team was going to have a chance to compete under this regime, as it appears unlikely that they'll be able to draft or develop players to replace the production of Bautista and Encarnacion after they age into ineffectiveness.
  12. Yep, time to retire.
  13. Our first hint of the terribleness that was to come was Beeston conducting the four-year-Indiana-Jones-like search for the next president, only to name himself the best choice.
  14. So Blanco gets two walks today. In one game. Hmm.
  15. If I were a GM, Rauch would probably be the last guy I would want to invite into my office to try and politely explain why he was being DFAed.
  16. I really can't understand the blinders this organization has for him. It makes no sense whatsoever. As terrible as it sounds, I'm pretty much hoping for a lingering injury at this point. Nothing to the face though. Don't want to mess up this kid's livelihood.
  17. Sweet. Would love to see McGowan make it back.
  18. Probably more to do with what we lost him for. I'm still disappointed we didn't get him fulltime ABs in a Murphy/Cito-free environment. Obviously tough to know what goes on behind closed doors, but Snider seemed like a good enough guy who worked his way into being a passable emergency CF, and had periods where he showed crazy power. I'm not really complaining about him not being here any more, but it seems like pretty poor (once again) asset management.
