  1. I come across this so many times in my work. Having data is not a solution; using good data to make informed decisions is the goal. I mean, if they have a database that contains all the details of Chapman's dubious bullpen session that led them to the decision that they didn't want to sign him, what good is that? Garbage in/Garbage out and all that. Also, I've clearly missed something involving "despair". Link please.
  2. I would pay money to watch Beeston try to use a computer.
  3. I think autocorrect messed up your post. I assume you were initially quoting AA's response to the question: "Oops, er uh, tools?"
  4. A 2012 version of Cabrera would be nice, as would healthy Morrow.
  5. Snider for sure. Chris Carpenter jumps out as well.
  6. This is the move they have to make, big money on a one-year deal. Basically gives the team an extra year to assess guys like Stroman, Hutch, Drabek, Nolin to see who takes a step forward. Give those guys another year and we may be able to determine that we don't have to play this BS free agency game next offseason. Probably makes too much sense for it to actually happen though.
  7. You mean other than virtually every post he's made over the last 10 years?
  8. I don't agree with this. I'd rather not repeat last year's "all-in" moves just to give the appearance this is an organization committed to "winning". Despite getting rid of a boat load of talent last offseason, we're still left with some decent pieces. I think I'd rather start the season with some combination of Hutch and Stroman as rotation considerations and see how we do before making any hail mary moves in the name of contention. It's not inconceivable that a return to form from Dickey, a healthier Morrow and the emergence of one of Stroman or Hutchison gives this team a legitimate chance to compete. Sure, a lot has to go right, but in the absence of any consistent, coherent vision from AA, I'd rather take the more cautious approach moving forward. More simply put, I have zero faith that this team can effectively evaluate assets on either side of a deal, so what's the point? If all of the above good fortune does not happen, then I would think about selling off some pieces.
  9. Hopefully when AA mentions that he's flexible on the 5 year limit, he's not referring to a reliever.
  10. If I worked for Rogers, I would use my knowledge of telephone systems to ensure that any time AA tries to contact Friedman, the call gets re-routed to an actor who can do an impeccable Friedman voice. Communication with the real Friedman should not be allowed under any circumstance.
  11. Sweet. Expanding deals usually works out sooooo great for us. AA probably trying to figure out how he can jettison Stroman and Sanchez in a single move. #efficiency
  12. I don't know how anyone can doubt this. We just came off a season where Lawrie and Reyes get hurt at the same time and we we're running around like chickens with our heads cut off trying to find guys that could play infield. Ugh, this team. I know there's still time to not give DeRosa a roster spot, and there's still time to buy out Izturis and forget that deal ever happened, but I know deep down that neither of these things are going to happen.
  13. Had he not inherited Bautista and Edwin, we may not have encountered the dreaded "all-in" phase. Last offseason was likely a by-product (in part) of trying to compete before Bautista's window closes.
  14. I have this device that lets me practice my putting. I get the ball in and it shoots it back to me. Maybe something like that for 2014 catcher???
  15. Plus, I feel like Goins isn't averse to getting better, whereas JPA seems convinced that his game is more in need of tweaks, rather than an overhaul.
  16. Once JPA returns to the lofty heights of hitting .230, I'm sure everything else will fall into place.
  17. I wonder which numbers he looks at? Being a "numbers" guy is all well and good if they're useful numbers. RBIs + Twitter followers + GA ("Grit" Analysis) is not helpful.
  18. JP is probably going to take this number into his arbitration case.
  19. Probably. I don't think pitchers in the Independent League have very good control.
  20. The best part is how far under his own line he is.
  21. Don't take this the wrong way, but you sound like a witch. Witch!
  22. Gose. Great defense, speed in the late innings... I don't think there is much point in sending him down again; he'll probably lose half year of development time pouting. 4th OF gives him a better chance of putting it together, without the pressure of being a starter.
  23. I think he's saying that the same people who evaluated and acquired Izturis and Boni will be the same people evaluating and addressing 2B this offseason. I think it would be best if Goins goes full-Bautista so that we don't have to put the army of scouts on duty to "solve" this position again.
  24. I think Ryan Goins should expand his repertoire and attempt to make it as a two-sport athlete in the CFL. From what I've seen so far, he looks like he has the hands to be a passable receiver in the CFL.
  25. I am firmly in favour of natural grass. It's softer, causes fewer injuries, and let's face it folks, it's prettier on TV.
