Ya but they can do a retool and be a 270M mediocre team for next year, think about that. I wonder how many years until they admit they need a rebuild?

Yeah it’s a terrible idea but this is a marketing/optics driven front office. I’ve stopped anticipating the “Gausman scratched” tweet. It’s not coming. They want to try to sweep the Cardinals (which might actually happen) and then reassess. If that happens and they are within 3 games back of the WC, then wouldn’t shock me at all if they keep everyone and add.

It doesn't work that way, because you need time to set up trades. They can't just wait around until an hour before the deadline to decide what their plan is. Furthermore, the teams that are interested in acquiring these players (Gausman, Hoffman, Springer, Varsho etc.) aren't going to wait for you to make up your mind. The Jays already know what they are going to be doing.

Furthermore, these last few games against two mid teams where they have barely won changes nothing. Look at the upcoming schedule: they have 20-straight games against good to very good teams. They are playing the Yankees, Rays, Red Sox, Cubs (1 game), Philly, and the Astros who are now 9-1 over their last 10 games and one of the hottest teams in the league. The Phillies are scuffling, but they expect to be significant buyers at the deadline.

And can we be honest here? They've won 3 of the last 4, but the offense still looks bad. It would be one thing if the team looked different offensively, but squeaking out wins in the late innings against teams with bad bullpens is not likely to be a winning strategy over these next 20 games.

Keegan Matheson, who works for Rogers, already went out of his way to report that winning 2 games in a row has not changed anything in terms of their plans. It was basically a direct message to the part of the fanbase who is of the opinion that sweeping the Cardinals changes things for them.

He can comeback in the offseason if he really loves it here so much.  With a potential lockout, who knows how good he'll be when we resume baseball lol.

How awesome would the deadline be if half of these trades happen?  Let's have a wild deadline with so many teams still in it.

I can't wait for the playoffs.

That would be great if it worked out that way you can't guarantee anything but likely worth the risk if you can get something decent in return for him

Whether or not the front office has decided if they are buyers or sellers, I hope to goodness they have eleven feeling out their trade options. It does take time, but they should always be on the phone.

The other question is what are the Jays expectations? If the goal is to make a run and squeak back into the postseason, then sure, go ahead and buy. If, on the other hand, the goal is to build a legitimate WS contender, then there needs to be further building. Just because current players are good doesn’t mean they’d be a part of a championship team. I’d rather see a longer-term plan, rather than short-term moves for a dubious playoff run.

I hope you’re right. I’m not expecting any top prospects in return for the impending free agents or Hoffman but buying or even standing pat given how the team has looked this season makes no sense to me. I’m still trying to wrap my head around Gausman starting today (if he’s indeed being shipped). If they're selling then the result of today’s game means nothing, so starting Gausman makes no sense. That’s why I’m a little curious what their strategy here is.

I have a bad feeling that this FO is dumb enough to think that this team has a chance of sneaking into the wildcard because they are 4.5 games out of the last wildcard spot.

There are like 6 teams between the Jays and those 4.5 games...
