Would love to take 3 of 4 and head to Atlanta at .500

Orioles have won 2 in a row vs. the Rays so they're playing decent right now

O's have had a few crazy walkoffs lately. Tough team to play, starting pitching hasn't been great for them

Do you know what the plan is for starting pitching in games 2 and 4?

Hilarious game, lads. I didn't watch it but the box score is colourful.

  • Marlins stole 15 bases but got caught stealing 9 times
  • MLB MVP Otto Lopez refused to get out
  • Gausman was trying to bean dudes and then did bean a dude
  • Yucky Perez hurt himself butt stretching too hard? lol
  • John Schneider flipped the bullpen pecking order around just to make people panic

This could be the turning point of the season right here coming up.

4 game series vs. the Orioles.

Take 3 of 4 and the Jays are back to .500 would be huge! Lets go!

+ if BV is going to be something close to a 100 wRC+ hitter they could even get him 1B reps

backup 1B is actually a problem on the roster right now. they appear to not want to slide Okamoto over there, ever, for some reason.

That is an interesting observation.  I wonder if that changes when Barger returns?  I assumed they just thought Oka at 3rd, Clement 2nd and Sosa 1st was stronger defensively than Clement at 3rd,  Sosa/DS at 2nd and Oka at 1st...

Reports said Oka was GG level defensively at 1st in Japan, so I can't imagine the Jays are against playing him there.  We just don't have the same defensively flexibility with Barger out.

Why don’t you go on orioles hangout if you love their team so much

Unfortunately the O's offense is cooking lately

According to Blue Jays message board when an 19 year old hits .190 with 5 walks and 80 ks he's just learning and it should be years before we give up on him.

According to Blue Jays message board (aka Jays Center) when an almost 23 year old Jake Cook hit .100 in low A Florida ball he's just learning a new swing.

According to Jays Center, when Samuel Basallo and Jackson Holliday, 1 year and 6 months younger than Jake Cook don't light the world on fire their first 1000 combined PAs in MLB (already) they are complete failures with no hope ever of being fixed.

Holliday's projections have already plummeted back down to earth. Now he projects to be more of a 100 wRC+, league average player.

Nobody EVER even hinted at Basallo being a bust, though. Dude only had 31 games last year.

If Jackson Holliday is having so much trouble after hitting .396 .522 .660 in the low A league, I do wonder how Jo Jo Parker's .231 .374 .374 is going to work out...

I figure Jo Jo's chance at being something special is gone, but might be a Cavan Biggio with an earlier start.

But if Jackson Holliday is a Cavan Biggio where does that mean Jo Jo will end up?

This is harsh.  He is only 22 years old.   Last year he couldn't hit the fastball and people seemed to sour on him. He is coming off a hand injury right now but I would be bullish on him. Lets give him ~1300 ab's before relegating him to "league average".  Wouldn't surprise me if he ends up being the best offensive second baseman in the AL.

Not all hope is lost for Jo Jo.   the original Cavan Biggio also only hit .230 with some walks in Dunnedin (one rung higher at the time) and in no time was in Toronto having the best Cavan Biggio season he could.

I still hold out hope Jo Jo will have several Cavan Biggio 2019 style seasons and there will great debates as to who is better?  Jo Jo Parker (.239 .355 .403) or Jackson Holliday (.235 .338 .421) in 2029 ??

That's not my opinion, that's what Steamer, ZiPS, OOPSY, ATC, and The Bat say.

Projection wRC+ range: 102 to 110

Projection WAR range: 1.2 to 1.6 WAR in 310 AP or so

General consensus that he is "a tick above average" right now

The rough thing with Holliday is that his tools are so quiet. His bat speed / MaxEV are so light. I think people were expecting more in that perspective. He could still figure it out as a barrel control guy though.

I'd be interested in a dead simple, not too fance, no over-fitting projection system, that just did an MLB equivalency from minor league numbers.

Holliday hit .290 .430 .460 I think in the minors, much of it as a teenager.  So one would think that projects pretty nice in the majors.   Like there is no player except Juan Soto (barely) with a high minor league on base percentage.  Or maybe there is but I don't know who.

Holliday should hit .280 .380 .440.

Precisely. There is a barrel control guy.

However, Holliday's career BB and K rates are not like Spooner Horwitz's.

Holliday does not have good top end velo but he is able to consistently hit the ball "kind of hard". There are slightly better guys to comp him to.

It would mean that Holliday hit the extreme low end of his outcomes and Parker is still unknown. Progress and development isn't really that linear or predictable.

I'd also say at no point has anyone thought Parker was as good a prospect coming out of the draft as Holiday was.

Orioles Fanboys coping with Jackson Holliday not panning out as hoped sure is a sad sight....

Top prospects fail to reach superstar status all the time. Just let it go and focus on what you do have, Gunnar Henderson, a nice ballpark, etc.

Gunnar has a 99 wRC+
Coby Mayo 75
Holliday 90
Cowser 79

Seems pretty obvious to me.

Well damn, I suppose that they can always look back fondly on their Prospect Rankings Championships from 2020-2024.

It was a legendary run (which translated to 0 playoff wins) and I can't wait to see the banners hanging at their beautiful ballpark next time I visit (I won't since I was almost stabbed the last time I was in that shithole city).

Imagine that core achieving nothing better than wildcard appearances for the rest of their prime?  Breaks my heart..................not.🤣
