Yep. They would somehow change the rule so it only applies to Ohtani. Something like raise the IP threshold, or AB threshold, or make it so the pitcher can only be a starter… something.

The league will continue to cater to and bend the rules for Ohtani.

You can bet on that...Shohei's interpreter likely is,

Can I level with everyone? We’re all friends here, right?

I desperately need a Jays W today.

I’ve been doubling down every game during this 6-game losing streak, so I’m now in for 32 units on today’s game. Had to dip into my kid’s college fund for this one, so there’s no shot I can chase with 64 tomorrow.

So yeah… today is pretty much do or die. If they lose, I genuinely don’t know how I’m paying my mortgage.

On top of it, I’m irritable, my work performance is tanking and I even yelled at my dog this morning. My DOG.

At this rate I’m getting fired, my wife is leaving me, and I’ll be explaining to my kid why he’s going to community college because the team can't get a hit with the bases loaded.

So please, for the love of god, I am begging you...just win today.

Why are the rules being broken?  I remember Kirk taking too long when he was on base to get ready at the end of the inning and they called a ball on him before he reached his catching position.

NO EXTRA TIME FOR ANYONE!  There are no exceptions for that rule.  Othani or not.

The game he "lost" and got his second blown save on is when Heineman got subbed in following Kirk's injury and promptly blew the game for him. He's striking out 48% of hitters, I guess "swing and miss is king" only for guys you like eh?

I like Jeff Hoffman. I just want him to bare down when it counts. Obviously the swing and miss is fantastic. The 8 hits in 6.2 innings pitched and the high WHIP is not ideal. Part of swing and miss is also limiting hits peroid.

Unless you think his .538 BABIP is sustainable then I don't know what to tell you, it's not all up to him whether the few balls in play he's allowing at the moment are falling. He's striking out almost every other hitter lol. If that's not enough because he's also not preventing the other guys from aiming their line drives then nothing he does can ever be enough.

Lets hope not. We already lived through his insane fly ball bad luck. He obviously has been better unlucky and over criticized. I don’t really deny any of those things being true.

Is this post highlights with a gold/yellow box around it and a star?  It is for me - for some reason.  Did I click something by accident?  I've never seen this before...

I'm personally OK with giving Ohtani an extra bit of time.  He's a unicorn.  He's different than catchers because someone else can warm up the pitcher while the catcher gets ready.

It is in the rules that the umpires can give players extra time.  It’s usually used for catchers and pitchers who are on base, at bat or on deck.

Agreed here as long as the time is not used to strategize with a pitching coach.

I’m fine with the extra time too. It is basically the same amount of warmup time, the clock just starts at a different time to account for him having to travel back to the dugout.

But no team should get 14 pitchers while everyone else has 13. One of your pitchers being able to hit should have zero bearing on your team unlocking an extra roster spot. And it doesn't just benefit that one two-way player, it benefits the whole team. They can run a 6-man rotation with a 8-man bullpen. Or they can run a 5-man rotation with a 9-man bullpen.

Every pitcher on the roster is getting extra rest because one of them can hit. Why?

If anything, it should be the opposite. Once a player throws 20 or more innings, he should count as a pitcher toward the 13 pitcher limit.

draft/develop your own 2 - way player then you can do the same

Sure, piece of cake.

In the meantime, can you help me understand why rostering a pitcher who can hit should result in an extra roster spot?

I did not know that.  hmm.  Not sure I'd have to give it some thought

Everyone was a two-way player playing house league baseball as a kid 😂

I think they’re super cautious with him because they think he’ll get exposed/exploited even harder with high fastballs the more he plays?? Idk.

Maybe WHY they specifically targeted IKF since he has good numbers against fastballs. Basically 2 guys as 1 side of a platoon lol.

Except…. DS actually hits righties slightly better than lefties. There’s a good case for him being an everyday player.

The thing is, if there were a LH starter who threw 100 mph on the mound, then DS would start against him and bat 2nd. So if he can't hit velocity, then you would think they wouldn't care about a LHP or RHP, they'd focus more on the type of pitcher on the mound. Unless they think he's fine against velocity as long as it's not a RHP, even though as mentioned DS hits RHP better. Maybe there's something in the numbers to suggest that, I don't know. It's just a strange usage. Starting IKF over any competent big leaguer is/was insanity, so I'd like to know their reasoning.

With that said, Lukes since the 2nd half of last season has a 79 wRC+ in 243 PA. Against RHP over that span, it's 73. His BB% over that span around 5%. They got a mirage season out of a journeyman in a "team of destiny" run. We will see how long of a leash Lukes gets based on 2025, but DS should be getting more time over Lukes against RHP with Barger out.
