mphenhef Verified Member Posted April 8 Posted April 8 It feels like there has been a sloppy play or two every game at first base so far this year usually involving a pitcher or catcher. I've been wondering if the team is suffering a bit from so many of them being away from the club for the WBC this spring. Like are those missing reps in PFP with vlad there causing some early chemistry issues perhaps?

Yeah if the team doesn’t immediately say its NOT a torn ACL, it’s usually bad news. Just the way he was carted off I felt he was probably done.

The flu thing has probably traveled around the clubhouse more than they’ve let on. We are getting uncharacteristic errors from almost every position, lots of bobbles in the OF too by Varsho and Lukes.

Gonna be hard to replicate his KBO success after moving to a more difficult league AND missing a year AND coming back from knee surgery.

Depending how rehab goes and if he can start a throwing program in August. Wouldn't rule out him being able to come back as a reliever in late September. Obviously he won't have time to build up to start.

Recovery also factors in his ability to return to the field. It could be shorter than that time frame it could be longer. He could shorten the timeline based on how his body bounces back. So if he can get do that I think both him and the team would love to have him available in September if possible. They won’t rush it and the main objective is having him ready for Sprjng 2027. But if the Jays are heading to the playoffs he could be a major boost to the 2026 Bullpen if all works out. And I hope he does.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 10 Posted April 10 Ponce is older and heavy. I would guess his recovery will slide longer. He's the opposite of a young Marcus Stroman, for reference. Olerud363.354 1

Laika Community Moderator Posted April 12 Posted April 12 Sorta shocked to see Valenzuela get all these starts over Hein Even day games after night games Front office obviously thinks BV is vastly superior

So that’s the main reason. But clearly Valenzuela is the backup of the future.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 12 Posted April 12 After seeing the way Hein has played, you probably don't want him as a starter. Better to give BV the at-bats and experience. Hein is just a backup and that's it. Can't rely on him playing 4-5 times per week.

Not really uncommon. SuperFuzzBigMuff and Spanky__99 2

Not really uncommon. Last season, the Jays were relatively healthy, so the hope is they can avoid having more significant injuries pile up the rest of the way. The good news is they’re expected to get some guys back over the next couple of weeks. Still, they can’t afford to be without Kirk, Yesavage, Bieber, Barger, and Springer for extended stretches - let alone lose anyone else on top of that - and expect the same results as last season, especially after the slow start.

If he hits .250 with 32 homers and Vlad hit .320 with 31 homers that is fine. 2019/2020 Eloy was capable of leading a good team in homers, so if he returns to that awesome, if he is awful but everyone is too, not awesome. G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 13 Posted April 13 Blue Jays Re-Sign Josh Fleming On Minor League Deal April 12th, 2026 at 10:21pm CST • By Nick Deeds The Blue Jays are re-signing left-hander Josh Fleming on a minor league deal, as Mitch Bannon of The Athletic has reported. Toronto previously signed Fleming to a minor league deal in February and briefly called him up before designating him for assignment last week, at which point he elected free agency.

Savant page is decent for a 2nd baseman, but looks like he swing at everything and he can't run or play much defense.
