There is a press conference on mlb.com right now with John Schneider.  I didn't hear the start, but some tidbits from what I have heard.

When asked if Ponce would be a starter "100% a starter"

When asked about assistant hitting coach he said they have found a new one and it should be announced soon.  Donnie's role is also being backfilled in a couple of ways.  He mentioned there are 2 people coming in from other organizations and 1 internal promotion.

He mentioned that Mattingly left to be closer to his family  and work with his son.

It sounds like they want to tweak things with Cease a bit too.  Schneider mentions they asked him about evolving his fastball grip and talked about working on a change up with him to make it better and a pitch he uses.

Atkins should sign Suarez, no matter how much this cost. Forgot Fairbanks or giving another chance to Hoffman and think our bullpens will be ok

Absolutely not.  Already got a similar player in Santander.

I don't about no matter the cost, but I do think Suarez is the top remaining bullpen target for us. With Diaz only getting 3 years, they have some decent leverage there. Either getting him for 2 years, or push a third year for a reduced AAV which would help our tax calculation. Would 3/30-36 get it done?

MLBTR and fangraphs projections have him at 3/48. Diaz went under his projected in total value and years and that should drive down Suarez's market value.

I assume he means Robert...

I'm talking about the best closer avalaible since Diaz signed with the Dodgers. I guess signing former Padres star players is a good idea, because they had rivalty with the Dodgers, and would likely sign with the Jays.

Yep, something like 3 years 60m

Ah of course.  Had Suarez on the brain, just read that the Red Sox have talked to him

Red Sox have cheap owner, so they wont overpaid for Suarez, they already have a closer. But about Bichette, they will probably sign him, but lose Bregman. Anyway, I prefer Tucker, coz on the long term he will be more usefull. He have good def, can hit 25+ HR and he's more fast than Bichette.

If Saurez wants 20 million a year. You laugh at him until he hangs up the phone. Call him back and laugh some more.

And he will laugh saying good luck if you think Hoffman can do the job. Diaz just signed for 23m annualy with the Dodgers, and the Mets signed Williams 3 years for 51m. So Suarez at 18-20 annualy worth it. It's better invest in good closer, than spend the same amount on reliever like Hoffman and Fairbanks or other cheaper options.

If you think Robert Suarez is even on the same planet as Edwin Diaz you’re brain dead.

I’m out on Suarez.*

He throws hard but doesn’t miss enough bats, and a three-year deal takes him through age 37. Not the end of the world for a reliever, but he’s almost completely dependent on velocity and is starting off at 98.5 mph. If he loses a couple of ticks that would be pretty concerning for him.

You could get Tyler Rogers for about half the AAV. Yes, you pay a premium for velo, but there’s a very real chance Rogers out-WARs Suarez over the life of the deal.

*If the Jays sign him, please ignore everything about this post as I will immediately pivot to praising the move.

Running out of closer options. Pretty soon they may have to call Bassit to see if he wants to return to the bullpen.😆

Not sure a high leverage reliever is high on the Jays priority list.  Relievers are best acquired in season anyway given their volatility plus pitchers get injured at a crazy rate.

What do you think it would take to get Marte? Seeing Morosi throw the Jays and Red Sox around for him.

doesnt seem like the Jays line up with what Arizona wants

Nice to hear but this is the classic fluff you hear from Boras after you sign one of his clients lol

I don't know.  I listened to the presser and he said it kind of matter of fact not really trying to pump the Jays tires.

They want young, controllable pitchers from what I heard today. Jays hang up if they ask for Trey.  Maybe they would be willing to build something around Ricky T&. Bowden but i doubt Ricky has value high enough to be the centrepiece in such a deal.

Can we get Suarez on a 2 year deal for $17-$18M AAV?  I think that would be a good fit.

I still think the Jays should've protected Pinango, man... it would suck to lose him to be honest. BA has him as a Rule 5 Target...

Yohendrick Piñango, OF, Blue Jays

Piñango is one of the best available hitters in the Rule 5 draft. He has an excellent combination of solid upper-level production—.258/.361/.430 with 14 home runs between Double-A and Triple-A—with nearly impeccable analytical data. He hits the ball as hard as almost anyone in the minors—92 mph average EV and a 109 mph 90th EV—and he does it with well-above-average contact rates and solid swing decisions.

Piñango is a left fielder only, and he’s a fringy defender there. That’s a profile that doesn’t get picked all that often, but there are few 23-year-old lefthanded hitters like this in the Rule 5 draft.

They didn't? Wtf?

Rule 5 draft starts in 20 minutes, I feel the Chisox are going to pick him up. I hope not, we'll see.

I have a feeling the Jays might take a guy like McGarry.
