What a f***king nightmare!!  But we lost the first 2 at home to Texas in a 5 gamer in 2015 and we all know how that turned out.

What do you expect?  Positivity only goes so far, the offense for the second straight game was almost non existent, especially after the 3rd innings of both games.  Seattle has Kirby and Castillo throwing game 3 and 4.  We have Bieber (who hasn’t been exactly lights out lately and Bassitt who hasn’t pitched in a month or Scherzer who’s been awful the last month..,,, no way Seattle loses this series, they’re too good.  I hope I’m wrong but all the signs point to this

would need to check the ground rules to see if that metal strip is in play, I now JS asked the ump for a rule clarification (FOX asked JS the next inning) and he still challenged.

My point was that baseball is a funny game and sometimes things happen you dont expect.  No need to be so negative until it's done and dusted.

It IS crazy.  It's a seven game series.... pretty rough start, but let's hope there's another twist to this series.

Pretty much must win next game if they want to win this series.  

Maybe a change of scenery will help reset.

They did swept Mariners last time in Seattle.  Different roster for both teams, but still. Anything can happen.  Win 2/3 and bring it back to Toronto for game 6.  Ain't over till it's over.

But objectively, the Mariners had more team fWAR than the Blue Jays (53.6 vs. 49.9) this season. Statistics do not back up your assertions either.

Mariners became big favourites after trade deadline acquisitions.  Even being in a wildcard spot and trailing the Astros for their division, fan graphs gave them better WS odds than us for a good part of the summer.  And Julio got good again.

We got some mid tier relievers.

Win 2 of the next 3, and go back home down 3-2 is probably the most realistic best case (obviously, pie in the sky, the Jays win the next 3). Not optimistic about winning this series down 0-2, but it is what it is. One game at a time and get back in this.

It's obviously not over yet, but the Mariners have basically reset their pitching staff. They won't be using any more starters on short rest, and on Wednesday all of Munoz, Brash, and Speier will have only thrown 8 pitches in the previous 4 days.

Well that was really disappointing. It is a game of inches. After we levelled at 3 - we have a few opportunities to take the lead. Our hits found fielders where as Mariners’ hits got payoff. It is what it is. Sports is really funny at times. After their 2nd 3 run homer the crowd got super quiet which couldn’t helped. What I will remember from the game was the shouting of Vlad’s name - it was so much fun especially when the kids got into it. Real shame we didn’t get the w - let’s get the next one and it will all change. We just didn’t carry through any momentum whereas the Mariners did. Let’s switch the script.

We all should’ve known this would be a rough weekend. Bad omen having to play these games during a holiday where we celebrate by roasting a dead bird.

For the Mariners to come into Toronto on short rest, exhausted from a 15-inning marathon and win both games is a huge shift in the series. It was so important that the Jays took one game in Toronto. 

3 games in a row now at Safeco. I guess the one plus is that Safeco does play like a home game for the Jays with all the BC fans making their way on down. 

It's not over, but the Jays have a much more difficult path now. Need to win at least 2 of 3 in Seattle and that's just to stay alive in the series. Come back to Toronto down 3-2 for Game 6 and 7.

Hopefully the Jays lean more on their starters in these games. Need to get 90-100 pitches out of Bieber, Gausman etc. The Jays don't have an elite pen where they can be over-managing games starting in the 5th innings on.

Can't remember if you were on the old board but Grant's 'Mariners are bad' thing has been going on for several years.  It's pretty unbelievable and no idea where or why he hates the Mariners.   When adjusted for park Mariners are second best offense behind Yankees.  It's close enough that I wonder if they are just as good as Yankees when replacing Tellez and their former 3rd basemen with Naylor and Saurez.

Grant is right that Mariners pitching isn't quite as good as the ERAs would have you believe, because the park is an extreme pitchers park.  It's hilarious though that he uses the park factor when evaluating their pitchers but not their hitters.   OMG!  Mariners scored only 760 runs with .244 average and 240 homeruns.   They are horrible.  Adjusting for park factor, and weighting Naylor and Saurez in there Seattle's current collection of position players are probably a .255 hitting team with 800+ runs and 270 homers. 

A better offense then Toronto, but without the 'proffesional hitter/play the game right' vibe. Not that there is anything wrong with hitting .270 as a team and scoring 800 runs that way.  Just that it is no better/no worse than scoring 800 runs the power way... and lady luck can strike either type of team down over a short series. 

Maybe Yankees should recruit Seattle's hitting coach instead of ours.

Just kind of joking.  No real dislike of Jays hitting philosophy.  Just that offense is offense no matter how it's generated.  Any type of offense can be shut down or appear awesome in a short series.

Seattle's hard hit balls are leaving the yard and the Jay's are finding gloves.  That's baseball unfortunately.  

Our pitchers need to locate better and the batters need to stay the course.  It'll turn around.  Hopefully tomorrow.

Adjusted for park Mariners offense is a bit better despite the strike-outs.  

Atlanta Braves won the 2021 World Series with a similar high strike-out low average team.

Last scrappy batting average based team to win the World Series??  2015 Kansas City Royals I guess.

Bo injury sucks.  Got away with it for a while but eventually it would cost.   Last night Buffalo Boys hitting 2nd, 4th,  7th, and 8th, and I believe one of the worst hitters in baseball (Giminez) hitting 9th. 

Love what the Jays have done developing older, un-heralded guys, but lack of healthy Bichette and Santander hurts.
