Gimenes is no a bad trade, his defense prevented many runs, and batting 9, he's no harmful.  What is harmful is to have utilities players batting  2,4,5,6, instead of 7,8,9. Ideally Kirk, Clement and Gimenes only batting 7-9. And 1-6 we will have few guys who can hit 30+ HR and have good AVG.

Its not ony Varland... its how this front office has managed their bullpens since theyve gotten here.  They think they have elite guys in the pen but rarely have had anyone who would be considered one of the best in the game.

I wasn't watching the broadcast, but did they ever explain why there was no interference called on Suarez?

The reason I ask is because I umpire baseball from time to time and we once had an on-deck batter struck by an errant throw in a playoff game and we got the book out and looked it up. The rules don't differentiate between on-deck batters or other players on the field of play.

Rule 6.01(b) states that in this instance:

"the ball is dead, the batter is declared out and
all runners return to the bases occupied at the time of the pitch"
