Kahnle and his change ups because his fastball sucked.

same guy who flopped in game 5 last season against the Dodgers

now he ended the dreams of the Tigers

perennial bringer of nightmares

2024 - “Tommy Kahnle entered in the top of the eighth trying to protect a one-run lead and instead allowed all three batters he faced to reach base.”

This is a really, really good matchup for us on paper, especially with their pitching a bit of a mess. There's a lot of positives for us to consider going into Sunday.

That Mariners defense is absolutely horrendous, ranking 26th as per fangraphs. That's a match made in heaven for our contact oriented approach. Suarez, Crawford, and Polanco are amongst the worst fielders at their respective positions.

Their bullpen is really, really thin and really, really tired. Munoz pitched a ton and looked shaky in his second inning.

The lineup looks as awful as it ever has. If we can pitch around Raleigh then there's a lot of free outs for JS to manoeuver his bullpen and put the guys in good spots. They actually started Mitch Garver and Victor Robles in a playoff game. Those guys wouldn't even make our roster.

I felt a lot less confident against the Tigers, who have a deeper lineup and solid defense. That being said, their rotation looked really troubling with Flaherty being used. It's really a toss-up.

I wonder if they are gonna get Woo back for this series. That would be a big boost to their pitching rotation.

Its better for baseball to see us against Seattle but their lineup f***ing scares me.  Those flyballs they hit in Seattle will mostly be HRs in the Rogers Center.  Gonna need Vladdy to continue carrying us.

I see the rotation going as:

Woo/Miller

Castillo/Woo

Kirby

Gilbert

Woo battled through 7 innings against us in April. We got a lot of runners on and he couldn't get much swing and miss, but we could only cash 2 runs.

We put Gilbert through the Jays treatment and made him throw 100+ pitches in 4 innings.

Castillo in 2 starts and Miller were crushed by the Jays bats.

This was all before our hitting renaissance.

Gotta just stay with the script and go with Gausman game 1 and Yesavage game 2. Gausman works well against offenses that have the profile of the Mariners (high chase rate and strikeouts). Just gotta hope he can keep the ball in the park. And assuming Yesavage has command, he's going to absolutely dominate the M's who haven't seen him before.

I also actually really like Bieber pitching in Seattle. Yankees were a bad match up for him. But he'll get some help with the ballpark/marine layer hopefully

Agreed. If Gausman gets ahead, that splitter is going to be devastating. They have the same hitting philosophy as the Yankees, but with a lot less power and contact ability. There's no need to change anything very much.

No lefty SPs for the Mariners. Let Nathan Lukes and Addison Barger cook.

No Davis 😭

Speaking of cooked, their only effective lefty reliever Speier has also been lit up in consecutive games.

I didn't think Bieber pitched poorly against the Yankees.  He gave up 2 runs in an inning.  It happens.  When you look at the pitches he gave up the hits that lead to those pitches, they weren't awful pitches. Bieber doesn't leave pitches middle middle.   I thought it was an early hook for Bieber.

Bieber allowed 8 batted over 100 MPH so he was good hittin' against the Yankees. The early pull was fully warranted in that game.

You're not wrong.  They were on Bieber's fastball, even when it was well located.  We've just seen Bieber adjust like he did when he gave up 5 early and then roll off 10 in a row and hold the line.

I like Bieber's chances better in Seattle to produce a good start for the club. I assume that we'll see Gausman and Yesavage again in games 1 and 2 to start the series with Bieber to start game 3 on the road, but I'm curious to see what the club chooses to do for game 4 of the series.

Jays should roll with Gausman and Yesavage in Game 1 and 2. Bieber in Game 3.

Bullpen game could be a trickier for Game 4 in the ALCS given the 3 games in a row. Gausman would be good for Game #5 at least.

Bieber pitching in Seattle with the roof closed is probably best case scenario for him. They were trying to hit Homeruns for 15 innings and looked abysmal doing so.

Has MLB admitted they got the Robles HBP call wrong?

It was unquestionably a swing and I don't think it hit him first either. They f***ed up 3 calls in one inning and the Tigers got out of it. I thought destiny was on their side at that point.

Not sure who to cheer for tonight

The team I least want to face in the WS is the Dodgers

Facing the Cubs would be ideal but Milwaukee has a better chance or beating LA

Brewers being knocked out guarantees the Jays get home field advantage in the World Series. But I agree the Cubs have no chance of beating the Dodgers

Good thing Schneider is on record in 2023 saying Raleigh sucks, should be easy to back that that up and will be a good rematch.

s*** i forgot about that lol
