Jesusindashed Verified Member Posted September 11, 2025 Posted September 11, 2025 Another winnable game lost. Jays are lucky the competition is losing again
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2025 Posted September 11, 2025 Well, that's a shame. A winnable Berrios start turned to dust. Can still win the series tomorrow. 3:07pm et first pitch. Be there.

gruber9292 Verified Member Posted September 11, 2025 Posted September 11, 2025 Well at least New York and Boston lost. That's another game shaved off the magic number. Stangstag, Nexii and Terminator 3
mphenhef Verified Member Posted September 11, 2025 Posted September 11, 2025 I have been one of the biggest Hoffman defenders I think but even I am starting to question his continued use as THE guy. A 10% fail rate is still great for a closer but Hoffman must be double or triple that now.

He would have taken good hacks and been dangerous and definitely wouldn't have watched strike 3 go by. What he did last night notwithstanding, IKF is an easy out.

Elite when HRs are low and garbage when giving up a lot like this year
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2025 Posted September 11, 2025 It is utterly stupid how this management group insists to keep Hoffman in a role that he hasn't performed ever in his career full time. They're treating Hoffman like its moving Mariano Rivera outta the closers role. Its a results based industry so start doing your f***ing job!!!
Nexii Verified Member Posted September 11, 2025 Posted September 11, 2025 The thing is even if they put Hoffman in 7th or 8th inning they lose. It's a home run given up in another inning. Shuffling reliever order doesn't help all that much when they all get equal use Stangstag 1

The contract comes with a set of expectations/promises unfortunately. Maybe next year we see a change, but im hoping that change is that Hoffman gets the HR rate under control again

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2025 Posted September 11, 2025 Ignore the bottom half lol
Doubleplay21 Verified Member Posted September 11, 2025 Posted September 11, 2025 Varland is the next favourable to Hoffman according to Schneider. But Varland cannot get 3 outs. Varland does not give up home runs like Hoffman. No other options in the bullpen.

F the feelings of 1 guy over doing whats best for the team.
jmomcc Verified Member Posted September 11, 2025 Posted September 11, 2025 I think i'd put Fisher at closer and let hoffman go lower leverage for while. abola2121 and Stangstag 2
Nexii Verified Member Posted September 11, 2025 Posted September 11, 2025 All that said it'd probably be better for Hoffman mentally to be low-medium leverage at this point. His WAR is sub 0 :(

Fisher would be my choice as well, but Schneider is a minor league manager, and those types absolutely adore veterans. I doubt he's demoting Hoffman's role for a rookie. If Hoffman is taken out of the role it will probably be for Dominguez if anything. I don't know who else Schneider would possibly trust in that spot. Seranthony has "closer experience" and more vetrin presents than everyone else in the pen. That matters (to JS).

If there are three tough righties, put in dominquez.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2025 Posted September 11, 2025 Dominguez is the obvious choice based on his current performance and experience to fill in as the closer if we need to have one. We should just do it by committe based on whoever is the hottest tbh.

Just an example. Jays24 1

Caratini and then 3 righties after that, with only Taylor Trammell (not a good hitter) as a LHB on the bench. But gotta use the closer in a tie game in the 9th. Jays24 1
