No guarantee he comes back right after the 10 days too But might not be 10 games, it would be retroactive to Sunday

It must be pretty bad if they are putting him on the IL especially now that rosters are expanded. I'm guessing he might be out for the rest of the regular season or maybe come back for the last home stand. He'll likely need a couple of rehab games even after his stint on the IL is up. This is a major blow! Guys like Guerrero, and some of the bottom of the order guys are gonna have to step up. That IKF waiver claim is huge now. At least it will be a defensive upgrade at SS. Bo could have probably played through the injury, but guaranteed he doesn't want to risk it with pending free agency.
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2025 Posted September 9, 2025 JC Bo. What happened to playing with a broken leg like the hero Kirk Gibson
glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2025 Posted September 9, 2025 The Jays have been pretty reluctant to put players on the IL even when they are unavailable to play for a few days (ex. Vlad after doing the splits), so for Bo to actually hit the IL it's probably fairly serious. Hopefully not something that will prevent a return before the end of the regular season.

If he wasn't so fat and unathletic, he wouldn't have gotten hurt with that mockery of a slide at home. Every SS other than him scores easily on that play. :) Masterbather 1
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2025 Posted September 9, 2025 I don't understand MLB. Why is the catcher allowed to block the plate (once they receive the ball), but the player can't run the catcher? It's either you can't block and the plate and you can't run the catcher (which IMO, is the correct answer), or you can block the plate and you can run the catcher. Those are the only 2 logical options. If a catcher wearing all that protective gear is allowed to block the plate, you should be allowed to come in hot - shoulders, cleats to the face - all fair game for the guy who is trying to score without any padding. Yeah Wells was too out of control there and treated it like a football play (with the celebration to match) and ended up blocking the plate. Bo should have been called safe.

I legit thought Bo was able to run over him if a catcher chooses to block the plate.

I fully agree with this assessment. The plate blocking rules are likely among the dumbest in MLB. It just makes no sense that a catcher is only disallowed from blocking the plate before he receives the ball, but has free rein to set up fort if he's either moving to receive the ball or has already received it. In this particular play the way the rules are set up was a direct cause to the collision at the plate as Bo had very little time to alter course once the throw was received. It's dumb that the catcher only needs to leave a sliding lane open when he doesn't have the ball in his possession if the intent of the rule was supposed to be reducing collisions at the plate. Omar Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2025 Posted September 9, 2025 Silver lining (yeah I'm reaching here): Springer to LF and Bo dh through the playoffs. Terminator and Jays24 2

Who's our backup shortstop? Gimenez? Kiner-Falefa and Gimenez. And Barger and Straw (yes Straw) are emergency SS. Roster wise we're covered, it's losing Bo's bat that will hurt.

If that leads to Santander playing right field more often than not that's a really bad defensive alignment in the outfield so it's just strengthening the infield but weakening the outfield.

Omar Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2025 Posted September 9, 2025 Anybody here remember Tony Fernandez going down with an injury the last week of September in '87? Oh what could have been? Hopefully this ends better.
Horses Fart Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2025 Posted September 9, 2025 Strange question but who would rather the injury be on Vladdy instead of Bo?

Bo is one of the best in MLB and has driven in runs in many high leverage situations.... so those 2 are incomparable and the answer is obvious.

Feels like a must win game every game lately, big blow losing bo, but I’m thinking back on that 4 game sweep on the Yankees and Bo didn’t play so I’m hoping that’s how this will end up
