Brandon Glick Site Manager Posted July 6, 2025 Posted July 6, 2025 Pretty amazing that the Jays have opened up a 3.0 game lead in the AL East with this winning streak... Spanky__99 1
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2025 Posted July 6, 2025 Why are the Jays giving Barger all these days off? They must realize hes been one of their best players right? Stop platooning him! gruber9292, Jaysman, Brandon Glick and 1 other 4

Since Barger was called up he's appeared in 65 of the 72 games so he is largely playing every day. Barger has pronounced platoon splits this season as well, so it's not the end of the world if he sits for a few PA to start the game when a lefty is on the mound. He is sitting at 78 wRC+ vs LHP as opposed to 141 wRC+ vs RHP. A large part of the reason why the team has enjoyed so much sustained offensive success is due to effective platooning to maximize all of the parts of the roster. Spanky__99 1

I would generally agree with this... except they have Loperfido in RF, who is also LH and terrible at hitting LHP. PickleJ, gruber9292 and Jaysman 3

Exactly... you need to compare his recent numbers to the players who are playing over him in Loperfido and Jimenez (who cant even bunt and doesnt know when to be in the batters box). Anyways, based on the Jays recent success, I wouldn't be surprised if Loperfido and Jimenez have great games lol.

Loperfido has managed to produce a .351 wOBA vs LHP in AAA this season, albeit with a .264 xwOBA which doesn't suggest it's particularly sustainable. Stangstag 1

Yeah, it's just a weird thing to do in general to replace a major league lefty with a minor league lefty against a lefty. My guess is that its something minor nagging at him, they've won the series already and just want to give him a day, but he's probably still available to come in later as you said.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2025 Posted July 6, 2025 Loperfido call up kinda strange considering he hasn't been particularly good in AAA. And Will Robertson who has been much better got DFA'd. Hopefully he can add a spark though. He does play with a lot of energy. PickleJ 1
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2025 Posted July 6, 2025 Joey plays pretty darn good defense and is probably one of the best base runners on the team. His profile plays up a little better as a bench player. He also had a really bad April but has been pretty good since May. I thought I read that he was making some swing changes to cut down on the Ks.

I think the problem was they needed to DFA someone and Robertson was the odd man out. Looking through the roster it's hard to find another position player you'd feel good about totally dumping, and there's no arms you'd want to cut completely. Silver lining might be Robertson getting claimed, and getting a RH version of him back in trade, maybe an arm, or they get lucky and can outright him back to Buffalo.
gruber9292 Verified Member Posted July 6, 2025 Posted July 6, 2025 Barger has to be not feeling well in order for him to be replaced in the line up with Loperfido. Also, DFAing Robertson was a mistake imo. I like the looks of Robertson more than Loperfido tbh but Ross will always side with an acquisition piece regardless. He can be a stubborn little nerd at times. PickleJ 1

Would be nice if he stayed in the organization he does have pop. People will point out he's 27 but Loperfido is 26 and consider him a prospect so will see. PickleJ 1

I don't really think there was really anyone on the 40 man that's a clear cut DFA, which is kinda cool. That hasn't been the case for a long time. Spanky__99 1

The only guy worth considering is Easton Lucas and shedding pitching depth isn't something you can really do right now. It is a nice problem to have. Some of those 40-man guys particularly one in the minors will likely be moved in Trade Deadline deals. Whether its a smaller dealer or part of larger one that might help sort that problem out on its own.

Yup, all those guys they landed at last years deadline are in play for sure, even if it's just as a throw in.

jaysthebest Verified Member Posted July 6, 2025 Posted July 6, 2025 Gausman had a great 1st inning. It was unfortunate he gave up a home run to a future Hall of Famer.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2025 Posted July 6, 2025 Anderson is a guy you just have to sit soft and adjust to the fastball, he only throws 89-91 heat.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2025 Posted July 6, 2025 Wow, Jays have the most hitters on the same team with an OPS+ of 100 or more at 10. Did not see that coming.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2025 Posted July 6, 2025 I like this matchup for Davis Schneider.
