Sorry but there are not enough sirens in the post to show he means business #FakeNews

Also, the fake news is that Baerga expects Vladdy to sign an extension between 450-550 now that we've signed Santandar to show him we're trying to win lol.

It’s being reported the price is between the minimum people expect him to sign for and the upper end of what he could realistically expect to sign for

This is the same dude you posted saying Burnes was signing with the Jays, correct?

Extension vice Expansion ;)

I said this? lol.

can you quote me on that?

also, I haven’t postured any position. Just shared his tweet

People who can’t read Spanish should just stop posting tweets in Spanish and passing it off as news. You never get what’s actually being said so you’re click baiting yourself and others.

Baerga is saying nothing here. He’s speculating that the Santander signing indicates to Vlad that the team is serious and he wouldn’t be surprised if this results in him signing a deal before ST. Proposed speculation amount will be between $450-550M.

I find it hard not to believe that Atkins won't f*** this up.  Extending one of our own has not something the Jays have done a lot of in recent years

Posted

So he gets somewhere between the Alonso contract and the Soto contract

Lmao 🤣 pretty wide range

No one knows what Vladdy is actually worth anymore. I guess all that matters is what the team thinks he's worth vs what he and his agent thinks he's worth right now.

Not sure we're going to like the outcome either way.

What's he worth?  Does he get a blank cheque from you?  What does "f***ing this up" even look like?

I remember one of the last times we extended our own home grown talent - his name was Vernon Wells and it was a f***ing disaster.  Oh I remember another time - Ricky Romero....same result.

Not suggesting that history means you should never extend your home grown talent, but nobody should be insinuating that signing Vlad is the only right answer.

Order of preference:

1. Sign Vladdy to a reasonable extension 325-375M with deferrals

-

2. Trade him for a solid haul

-

-

-

-

-

3. Sign him to a 500-550M extension

4. Let him walk for a comp pick

Where does the vladdy extension between 375 and 500M land, before or after trading him?

That's a good question.  If we're talking $375-$500M without deferrals (or if that's the equivalent after deferrals) then I suspect the answer is it's in line with the option of trading him and would depend on what you could get for him...

And I fully expect that's where "his number" is at - in that range.

No idea and hard to say

I agree with the above. I for one have long been in the trade him camp. The FO won’t f*** up if they don’t sign him to some albatross contract. The f*** up would be if he walks for a comp pick.

The Padres got a very nice package for Soto and still made the playoffs.

Also, agree on the Vernon Wells example. Vernon was a CF as well in much better shape.

The F it up version is

1 - Lose him for a comp pick (our version of Shohei by Angels)

2 - Not finding a way to get him signed.

3 - If traded that it is for a weak haul.

I don't care as much about how much as others do.  Springer goes off books soon and they aren't extending Bo.  The FA market clearly does not like that there is no long term marquee piece.  His value is more than just his WAR.

Teams look to sign and develop upper echelon players.  This is the Jays. Now get him signed.  They have no other in the system.

Vlad is exactly the type of player you DONT need to overpay for. He’s a bat-only dude with bad speed and terrible baseball IQ. And has been fat his entire 20s so far.

Padres were also smart to trade Soto at the start of free agency last year.  This front office trying to trade Vladdy now would have a lot less serious suitors on the market as theyve already spent their money on first baseman's.  They'd know the Jays can't keep him if he gets to the market now.

This has a chance to become a disaster but I truly think Rogers will step in to override Shatkins who are potentially in their final season here.   Big week coming up!!

My guess is that it doesn't happen and Vlad enters the season as an impending FA. Arbitrary deadline aside, is there any real incentive for either side to cave at this point? Vlad can wait a year and test the open market, while the Jays have a lame duck front office that has no reason to care about keeping Vlad beyond 2025. There are also strong baseball reasons to avoid a $500-600M contract for Vlad, assuming that's what he's looking for.

Tough spot for the front office, but this is one FO that doesn't seem to care about optics, so I don't think they budge unless it's a level of risk they are comfortable with.

Last day to sign Vlad?  Crazy we're at this point (whether it's good or bad).

What happens?

He's such a polarizing player ... easy to see HoF hitting talent, yet his results are not consistent. The rest of the package is flawed, baserunning and defense.

That said, his value to the franchise is not purely on-field related. Casuals love the guy and he's a Roger's marketing wet dream for their brand.

If there's no signing, I would just wonder how far apart the ask and the offer actually were. Who knows. I'd love to see him get signed, but it also feels like his ask is probably way too high for a guy of his on-field results.
