Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted January 21, 2025 Posted January 21, 2025 I'm very confident that we'll sign one of Alonso/Bregman depending on whoever gives us the better deal. 2B Bo 3B Bregman 1B Vlad LF Santandar RF Springer CF Varsho C Kirk DH Whoever SS Gimenez This team can still win the Team Gold Glove while being MUCH better offensively. We add a decent starter and I'm drinking the kool-aid to do damage next year.

I think Santander was likely the second best outfield option on the market, although you could make a case for Teoscar or Profar depending on whether he's able to recreate his 2024 success.

Martinez to the lineup. I even snuck Gimenez at SS and Bo at 2B, which I truly hope we are going to do to maximize their values defensively lol.

We might see Loperfido LF, Straw CF, Springer RF, Santander DH most of the time until Varsho is back. Whoever performs best between Loperfido and Straw will then stick around.

I believe that would likely be a more effective solution to keep Santander in right field in the short term with Springer in left field as Santander produced awful numbers in left field when he's played there. jaysblue 1

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 21, 2025 Posted January 21, 2025 Imagine if the Jays added Pete Alonso as well. Signing two potential 40 HR bats, along with Vladdy and Bo both having monster seasons in their FA year. What a fun lineup that would be to watch! BatFlip, Jays24, wilko and 1 other 4

The power bat we need. Shows he played right field in past. Do you see him playing left? Springer in right. Springer could play first month in center though Stangstag 1

No not Soto or nothing. Jays needed atleast 2 bats. The 4th and 5th year make me a bit nervous. But the terms of the deal are otherwise pretty reasonable. Both Vlad and him will need to DH alot. Will see they needed power. Still need another bat. Preferably someone who can reliably play an actual position well.
purplehaze89 Verified Member Posted January 21, 2025 Posted January 21, 2025 So if you reduce his AAV by about $4M to $14M, they slip under the 2nd CBT threshold at around $259M (22M before hitting the 3rd threshold). They have the room to spend into CBT-3 comfortably before reaching CBT-4. Now they need to at least close Alonso and a pitcher. Terminator 1
Ryu In My House Verified Member Posted January 21, 2025 Posted January 21, 2025 I didn't realize how decent Santander's arm is...check this out... He ranks 126 overall, but his fastest throw is over 99 mph, putting him 20th. Huh. I could see something like this to start the season with the actual roster. 1 - Gimenez 2 - Bichette 3 - Guerrero Jr 4 - Santander 5 - Varsho 6 - Kirk Springer/Clement/Wagner/Loperfido/Barger/Schneider… If it doesn’t work you push Gimenez down and leadoff Bichette. We are still missing a high contact hitter with good baserunning but it doesn’t look like there’s a great one available. I don’t see Alonso a fit at all unless it’s confirmed Vlad is leaving. If he would extend I would push hard for Bregman, than Profar and if both are not interested, settle for Grichuk in a platoon and re-assess next offseason. Missing a high contact hitter with good baserunning? You mentioned Ernie Clement. That's basically his entire offensive profile.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 21, 2025 Posted January 21, 2025 Would love to start a tradition of throwing potatoes onto the field after every Santander home run. I know it's not feasible but I'd love to take a crack at hitting Aaron Boone square in the dome with my 65 mph fastball. wilko and max silver 2
