Great I’m having a frickin awesome Monday watching the live streaming event from Washington DC and scrolling Twitter and see this

I think we'll end up regretting a 5 year deal, given that a full rebuild will be necessary in the near future.

Not surprising. Hopefully the terms are reasonable. Don’t think they will be after the public Sasaki embarrassment but hopefully I’m wrong.

I'm guessing a 100M guarantee

I hope that’s it

I’m afraid it’s 5/125

Will need to see the details on this.

5 year deal is scary but given this weird he can opt in but we can block it with a team option thing, perhaps the final years AAV isn't so bad.

So sounds like Santander can opt out after year 4, which the Jays can void by adding a 6th year. That’s player friendly so hopefully the AAV isn’t too high. You had to know the Jays would make a desperation move after the Roki stuff.

He'll be entering his age 34 season when he can opt out.

Idk what the AAV is but assuming it's 20-25 mil, a 34 year old DH is going to have to MASH for him to opt out or for us to want to pick up the 6th year.

Yup. Overwhelming odds is that this is just ends up a 5-year deal.

Why is 5 years scary? He's 30 and fit. Vladdy turns 26 in March and people are talking about locking him down for 10 when he could turn back into a fat slob any day.

Small detail, but he just turned 30, so he's a "young" 30.  Should get. 3-4 years of solid production.

It's scary because the deal is underwater as soon as he loses anything offensively. There are no secondary skills, and the carrying skill (his bat) isn't good enough to make him an asset if it slips by even 10%.

That 58th percentile xwOBA for a guy with 25th percentile fielding and 18th percentile speed. Desperation is the absolute stinkiest of colognes.

The spray chart, particularly the homer one is very pull-heavy, I could see him outperforming xwOBA at least to fall in line with his 120 wRC+ projections. He hits the ball very hard and often in the air. The RC has more favourable power dimensions even post-remodel than Candem Yards did the last few seasons, for a pull hitter.

This is certainly what some fans wanted.  They wanted us to add power.  We got our power hitting LFer and a closer.  Another bat another starter and let's see if the armchair GM's got it right.

We may not be that far away from a Santander, Alonso, Scherzer, Hoffman, Gimenez, Straw offseason if Rogers has lost their marbles and wants to burn cash and assets.

It would be incredible interesting for this board if that's how this offseason concluded.

Tony Taters is going to be fun as hell the next couple years. Switch hitter that hit 44 bombs last year. Sign me up for that.

The problem is there is no extra juice to his game. He provides no defense. No baserunning. Doesn't even provide OBP.

Nice to finally have a HR hitter in the cleanup spot again. Switch hitter is a bonus.

I think Santander will bring a lot to the clubhouse too. Underrated aspect

Lets just hope we can get a couple good seasons before he falls off a cliff

You need to factor in that he's going to lose 10 HRs a year simply because he isn't facing the Jays anymore.  Although if he hits the O's the way he hit the Jays, he'll immediately become a fan favourite.
