Agreed. It was also early in our contention window - whereas 2015 was at the end of AA's window.  Different strategies would be expected and that's what we saw.

2015 was so awesome because we hadn't had any playoff baseball in decades.  But they ultimately came up short too.

Wouldn't say 2015 was the end of AA's window. The core was still very good and made it to the ALCS again in 2016. Both teams had great chances at making the World Series, two years in a row. But yeah sucks they came up short against the Royals and Cleveland those years. As for 2017, who knows if AA was still around what other moves he would have made during the offseason.

AA decided to go all in starting in 2013, which backfired and the team was somewhat decent (83-79) in 2014, but not good enough. Donaldson + Martin the following offseason really helped, but the additions at the trade deadline really pushed the Jays over the final two months and into the Postseason.

Thanks for the compliment!

Obviously because he gambled and lost on Sasaki.

You seem pretty smart yourself, so I'm surprised you're having trouble coping with having the worst GM in MLB run your team.

-Says I have a terrible take

-I ask him what his take is

-He basically repeats my take

-Entire post dripping with low effort, low IQ trollbait

This guy isn't going to be worth replying to anymore, is he?

He said it was the best trade for Cleveland and practically humiliated the Jays front office for it lol.

Yeah man, I thought that was quite obvious?

And this is why they have not felt the pressure for long, they are buttered by their own owners  media

How is that even possible? Do you have some sort of available context to explain this statement?

Nothing makes me scroll right past a post faster than when I see mention of the "AA years"...

At the end of the day, I want the Jays to win, whether Atkins is still the GM or someone else.

Still will take the Jays 2015 and 2016 seasons over the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

What did I say that was so bad?

The 2015 and 2016 teams had legit chances at reaching the World Series. Those were fun seasons.

So you don't understand why I cropped that part out?  It was fine. They gave 'er in those years.

ETA; I thought I did crop that top part, I'm doing something wrong. I liked the post up until you spoke of 2017 and on, that makes we want to blow chunks.

'20 and '21 is waving hi... before you say anything, neither GM got to hold a title in this Org. Good... not Great.  Process was bad in '23, but I got it, process since that season... FAAAAAAAAILURE!!!

That better.

jaysblue... who's to say Atkins ain't going to pull a rainbow out of his ass this last season, as AA has on similar type of occasion/situation. Flags Fly Forever, bro... it's simple as that.

I should had added the word "near". The 2015 moves were made near the end of AA's window.  The window was definitely still open in 2016.  It just shut abruptly after that.

One thing I found AA excelled at was restocking the cupboard.  He would trade from his prospect pool (like in 2013) but then build it back up with assets again pretty quickly.

you also have to figure he would have kept Price around for 2016 and who knows what that could have meant.

You're suggesting we would have kept Price, thus matching or exceeding the 7 year $217M deal he signed with Boston?  Boston/LA got 11.4 WAR out of that deal as Price started the decline as of 2016.  Pretty happy we avoided that.

The CBA at the time allowed Atkins to re-stock much faster than you can today.  He was great at using those loopholes, but very hard to replicate since the changes in 2017.

Safe to say at this point that if AA had stayed and been allowed to rebuild, the Jays would be in a much better position today. I mean just compare the ATL drafts in recent years to the TOR drafts.

The 2021 hit on Schwellenbach blows Toronto out of the water in the same year.
The 2020 hit on Strider blows Toronto out of the water in the same year.
2019: Langeliers, Harris, Grissom to Toronto's Manoah.

2022, AA has some promising guys like Nacho, Drake Baldwin, JR Ritchie and Atkins has I guess Kasevich and Roden?

It's just AA doing AA things and finding a star in almost every draft. Ho hum.

Don't get me wrong - I think AA is great.  I was just saying it was easier to re-stock faster back then when you could trade for some average RPer with an expiring contract at the deadline and then not resign him and get a comp pick.

Maybe

It’s also easier to restock the farm when you’re actually good at drafting

the other thing i found differently with him, he was proactive, with atkins, i feel he always reacting to a failed approach.

Ans that was the fun part, even if the big club was not peaking, we could follow with excitement  some unexpected prospects. Have not felt that for a while
