L54 Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2025 Posted January 17, 2025 5M bucks this year and next for Straw Would you make this deal if you had a 30% chance at Sasaki?

Jeez I didn't realize he was that expensive. Would be a rather puzzling use of resources given our limited budget.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2025 Posted January 17, 2025 Obvious implications involving the pool money aside, Straw should also be a decent bench OF?

He'll definitely be in the mix, but it's Bradley Zimmer 2.0. The man just ran a 72 wRC+ in a full season at AAA with legit 20 grade power. I'd probably rather Lukes, Clase or Berroa at this point over him. He does have options at least I guess? He better not be taking up a 40-man roster spot. Pendleton, wilko and Jays24 3
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2025 Posted January 17, 2025 We are also getting cash from Cleveland

glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2025 Posted January 17, 2025 This better mean Roki is coming to Toronto because we are probably staring at the reality of Straw starting a bunch in CF until Varsho gets back. Jays24, Stangstag and M.E. 2 1

Hopefully they can figure out some adjustment to make him a passable bench player again. I have a bad feeling he's in the mix to start in CF until Varsho is ready. If he's the best defender for the job, goes without saying that's going to be a huge consideration..

M.E. Verified Member Posted January 17, 2025 Posted January 17, 2025 Varsh going to likely miss a month and the iNtl money so deal has some sense to it. He can be a bench guy when Varsho returns and play again when Springer goes out hurt. Stangstag 1

I mean $2M in international bonus money is a lot, Sasaki be damned. When you can only acquire up to 50% of your initial, this basically is that amount. That's one big lottery ticket or a collection of a few decent ones. Spanky99 1
BB17 Verified Member Posted January 17, 2025 Posted January 17, 2025 This is the kind of deal rebuilding clubs would make so I would hope the Jays aren’t doing this just to “try to wow Sasaki”. Because if he doesn’t come this just seems like a waste of $ for a team trying to compete.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2025 Posted January 17, 2025 I wonder how much cash from Cleveland. Straw is expensive. 6.4M, 7.4M, and then a 1.75M buyout.

This has to be over international bonus money. Depending on how much Cleveland is covering - we could very well just cut Straw.

There is a possibility we aren't getting Roki and we aren't re-signing Vlad and we are in fact starting the rebuild...
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2025 Posted January 17, 2025 Wow... if Sasaki doesn't sign here then this is going to be worse than the 2024 off-season. A team on a budget crunch using money to spend on a scrub who can be filled with from AAA.

You need to at least wait to see how much of the salary that Cleveland is covering and who the PTBNL actually is. And who they use the international bonus pool money on...just hang tight man! EDIT - $3.75M doesn't seem like enough - is that total, or per year? F*ck me Ross - you better pull this one off. Nobody wants Myles Straw.

I mean the timing of it all would just be even more ammunition for jays fans to hate the front office lol. Imagine he told the jays they were out and now the jays are trying to sign the players the Dodgers now can’t.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 17, 2025 Posted January 17, 2025 SIGN SASAKI AND DFA STRAW wilko, Brownie19 and G-Snarls 1 2
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 17, 2025 Posted January 17, 2025 Been thinking about this but haven't asked for an opinion. If you **do** sign Sasaki do you then try and trade Bassitt to bring payroll down and get something else you need in the process?
