Than sign one of Alonso, Sat, or Briegman. Twas me. If someone would take Bassitt's full salary (or close to it), we should be able to land Flaherty for similar money, seems like quite a coup. Somehow this rotation: Sasaki/Flaherty/Gausman/Berrios/Francis...would barely cost more than we are on the hook for with Gausman/Berrios/Bassitt/Francis/Yariel. That seems like the way to go about improving a ballclub

Ohtani is also a bat and chose the Dodgers, Yamamoto was able to get paid right away and chose the Dodgers, so he's paid even if his arm gets destroyed. I think Sasaki will choose the Blue Jays. The Dodgers will be out of money after signing Sasaki Is that really a good thing with the Jays current player development track record?

I think you could mix in some BP games or occasional sixth starter days without actually going with a six man rotation all year.

Its pretty obvious that money doesnt matter to him because no one's that stupid. It's clearly not his main motivation but almost doubling the next bidder's offer can't hurt.

Every player, particularly pitchers, will have times when they have to weigh financial security vs risk of career limiting injury. For the record, Sasaki salary in Japan was $500K a year

I never said he is not the consummate professional. It is based on the totality of comments by former players or commentators with access to the club. I don’t think anyone is saying he is banging on Ross’s desk. However, he signed up for a team with a legit shot to go to the WS and not a rebuild/re-tool, team that will finish 4-5th in s division.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2025 Posted January 17, 2025 What if we lose out on Sasaki, use the extra intl money to sign Christopher Polanco, and he becomes the greatest SS of all time? There's a lot of paths to this working out for us folks

I would add it ensures we stay on par with the Dodgers signing bonus if they were to trade for international bonus pool and bring it up to their maximum allowed. Can't hurt like you say !

Can't hurt like you say ! Sure this is true if the Jays had an endless budget and can still make all the moves they needed this off-season. Sadly we know that's not true, which is why this move will become a massive joke if we don't land Sasaki. As of now, we are on path to repeat last years off-season. We can also be on the path to have a great off-season if we land Sasaki and sign 2 of Alonso/Bregman/Santandar/Profar. Time will tell...

I find it funny everyone saying the Dodgers destroy arms while the Blue Jays have this great success of keeping arms healthy. The Blue Jays had like what 7 guys get Tommy John surgery in the last 12 months among pitchers in the org? Most of which were high end prospects. The SP who have been healthy all have come from outside the org. and had a track record of health, nothing the Jays are doing superior lol.
