Laika Community Moderator Posted April 3, 2025 Posted April 3, 2025 The Barves being 0-7 is hilarious. The Padres and Dodgers a combined 15-0 is wild. The entire AL Central is 2-4 which honestly makes sense. Can MLB just declare that nobody wins that division this year? Y'all lose, go home.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2025 Posted April 3, 2025 Lucky I got the early payout on Bet365 with the Braves since they were up 5-0 haha. Awful start to the season for the Braves. Bullpen couldn't hold it tonight and they had multiple opportunities to put up crooked numbers with the bases loaded and failed.

Neither Bo nor Vlad ever were it seems. These are guys who already had generational wealth from their fathers. They had no need to negotiate a deal early for their long-term financial health.

When 50% of the parties involved in a negotiation don't want to do it, the other 50% isn't at fault.

I had the same thought, then I realized somehow Ketel Marte had turned 31 already. I would have sworn he was barely older than Vlad.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2025 Posted April 3, 2025 Charlie Morton is getting touched up again. Stuff looks crisp but 4 runs on 2 bombs in 3 innings of work.

Seems like the Diamondbacks just approached him, guaranteed him a good chunk of more money in the future, in exchange for reworking the next few years of his deal to save them some money for whatever reason.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2025 Posted April 3, 2025 Marte isn't a good comp at all. Merrill is better. I do hope fans at least now see that perhaps the FO aren't complete morons. I hope the narrative of angry fans is starting to understand the complexity of these situations (and others). I think there's a good probability that Vlad doesn't get the contract/number he wants and he may even end up signing for less than he's already been offered. He had the leverage and asked for the moon - which he's entitled to do. Kudos to the Jays for not giving into his demands. I think he's a bit of a dumbass and I don't really like Vlad, but I still think the Jays should and will re-sign him. Stangstag 1

If this happened with the Blue Jays the exact same group of fans that is so incensed over the Blue Jays decision to let a mediocre replacement level longman type go to the Yankees would also be super pissed at the front office if Yarbrough had this type of blowup as a member of the Blue Jays.

The Torpedo bat was invented a year or two ago according to this article: https://www.mlb.com/news/aaron-leanhardt-discusses-invention-of-torpedo-bats Quote Like any scientific discovery or innovative technology, the torpedo bat didn’t happen overnight. In fact, the version taking the baseball world by storm needed both buy-in and time to develop. Much like the scientific method, there was experimentation followed by adjustments. Players would provide input on design, sending Leanhardt back to the drawing board. He credits those “Patient Zeroes” who were willing to demo the first bats in 2023-24 for today’s game-changing models.

I even linked an article outlining when it was created. The fact that there was an aluminum bat with a similar looking barrel does nothing to change when the current MLB torpedo bat was invented.. This isn't that hard, try to keep up.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2025 Posted April 4, 2025 Rockies call up Chase Dollander. I thought this signaled an usual fumble of theirs in missing the PPI, but it seems the prospect just needs to be called up within 2 weeks of Opening Day. Although in either case, what further info could they have gotten from the 4 IP he pitched in AAA to begin the season? lol Good luck winning ROY or finishing top 3 in Cy Young voting as a Rockies pitcher, however.

Brilliant if you ask me. I haven't been able to find a single piece of evidence that points to the current bat known as the torpedo bat having been around for more than a handful of years. There have been plenty of other bats that had unusual shaped barrels over the years but the current bat is a new creation.
