Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 Jonatan Clase and catcher Jacob Sharp coming back.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 lmfao they really did it they got someone who could "help in 2025" and it's basically another no-hit CF to replace KK
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2024 Author Posted July 26, 2024 Nothing interesting on the surface. But never know. No idea about the catcher.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 at least this Jacob Sharp person has elite PD stats, K rate under 10% with power but he is 22 in A ball so
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 "You can cross off 4th OF from 2025's needs list." - Ross Atkins, probably.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 As someone who drafted him with a late pick in dynasty, I totally believe in Clase. But for real, he's got good pop, great speed, and has always been able to take a walk. If he can just straighten out the most important tool, he could be great.

Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 Best of luck to Yimi, served the Jays quite well.
RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 Seems like just a better version of Seward Berroa. Both these kids are midgets though. 5'8 and 5'9.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2024 Author Posted July 26, 2024 I would like to read deeper into the fact the best piece of the return is a catcher.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 lmfao they really did it they got someone who could "help in 2025" and it's basically another no-hit CF to replace KK They sure did. The return for Kikuchi is gonna be some optionable reliever and a SS in complex league Mistake leaving these two dolts in charge of the 2024 deadline
RobinThicc Verified Member Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 Give Clase two weeks with Mattingly and he’ll be slapping singles all over the field

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 I would like to read deeper into the fact the best piece of the return is a catcher. Depth at catcher was reported as a big need for the Jays throughout the draft coverage - so I wouldn't read much into this (ie, a Jansen trade).
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 CFer looks like an Esteury Ruiz clone (with more strikeouts?). Ruiz cost the A's a f***ton more than this.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 The Catcher looks like a nobody. He's 22 years old in A ball and has yet to hit a homer in his professional career. 17th round pick last year so he doesn't have any pedigree. Clase could be okay. Perhaps a good 4th OF eventually. He has one more option after this year so they can let him develop more.
metafour Verified Member Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 lmfao they really did it they got someone who could "help in 2025" and it's basically another no-hit CF to replace KK Clase just turned 22 and has legitimate tools. Its a high risk profile that they likely won't be able to develop, but this really isn't a "boring" acquisition.

I was looking at it more as in no resign of Jansen and no faith in Kirk. Not saying anything shockingly new I realize. Just goes to how they see what was once an org strength.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 Not sure what anyone expected for Yimi. He doesn't really have a track record of being a shutdown reliever until this year at age 33. Throw in the injury and his trade value was really low.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 He has hit 6 HR's this year my guy. Wow my bad lol. I must be going blind. He's still a nobody.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 I expect nothing of these players That's probably the most reasonable stance for most reliever trades at the deadline.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 I expect nothing of these players Are you looking forward to the Spring Training segment with Hazel Mae where she sits down with Jonatan to discuss his path to Toronto?

Its a high risk profile that they likely won't be able to develop, but this really isn't a "boring" acquisition. Yeah Clase doesn't look that horrible. Started off the year in AAA at age 21 and is putting up respectable numbers. He has cut his K rate from where it was in AA the year before which is a good trend. I'm reading that he didn't start switch hitting until later than most so perhaps the hit tool will continue to improve.

Just goes to how they see what was once an org strength. Even if you resigned Jansen, adding Sharp just adds depths in the minors. He's probably not getting a sniff of the majors for another 2-3 years anyway. I don't think it says anything about our ML catchers.
metafour Verified Member Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 Wow my bad lol. I must be going blind. He's still a nobody. He actually has very promising underlying data (K%, Whiff %, Z-Swing %, Z-Contact %, and O-Swing %). Yes he is "old for the level", but he is a catcher and they tend to have different development patterns than other position players.
