Big_Walleye Verified Member Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 I said heads would roll after the first Red Sox sweep. I said it again after the Cleveland sweep. Nothing happened. Something has to give after this Fenway fiasco tonight. Doesn't it? The entire team has underperformed at the plate for a year (or more) and they don't turf the hitting coach. The front office has failed miserably at fixing the on field product and no changes made. Now Schneider is obviously panicking and the moves he's making are consistently backfiring. Going to Tim Mayza tonight was a panic move. It was the wrong move. His bullpen management has been atrocious all year. But it all comes down to the offense not scoring like they should. I'm certain head(s) will roll now. Who might it be? Have a good one.

Ray Verified Member Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 There will be coaching turnover, but Schneider/Atkins/Shapiro will all end up staying imo.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 Everyone from Shaprio down needs to be gone. The on field product is a mess with one of the worst farm systems in baseball that just got worse with our 2nd best prospect testing positive. They've been here for 9 f***ing years man. Enough is enough.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 There will be multiple cannings after the season has concluded.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 There will be multiple cannings after the season has concluded. Needs to happen before this deadline. Shatkins can't be trusted with the rebuild/retool. Their eye for prospects is pathetic.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 Fire the players. Not many earning their pay.

max silver Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 I would have fired the hitting coach halfway through last season. Which one though? I for one don't know who is primarily to blame for the offensive ineptitude and multitude of underperforming hitters. Do you can the whole works of them? Just keep the promoted AAA coaches as the Buffalo guys are largely the only guys performing to their talent levels? Do you fire the advanced scouting crew, or the nerd department? Is Mattingly going to be scapegoated for the offensive woes and everyone else gets a free pass?

Is Mattingly going to be scapegoated for the offensive woes and everyone else gets a free pass? It's not rocket science Guillermo is the main hitting coach and Mattingly is the offensive coordinator or whatever and the big persona on the bench. Mattingly is on record saying that "damage is a scary word." Mense and Hague are minor employees. They probably don't even have the authority or control to bear any of this responsibility. They may be good or bad, it doesn't even matter. Martinez and Mattingly NEED to f***ing go. If the org keeps the other two, whatever. They might be decent lower level hitting coaches who would help underneath a proper system. The MUST BE FIRED list for me would include: Atkins, Schneider, Mattingly, Guillermo Joe Sclafani: Director, Player Development Shane Farrell: Director, Amateur Scouting And maybe Lacava and Tinnish. And of course any other bad seeds in the scouting, player development, baseball operations, advanced analytics, advanced scouting / game prep departments.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 Any person in the org who puts, agrees to put, or signs off on one of the worst hitters in MLB continually batting in the middle of the Jays batting order needs to fired for sure. There is being loyal, and then there is being painfully stupid/stubborn. I have no idea how Springer hasn't been stapled to the bench yet. It's almost July and he's sporting a historically bad OPS for a COFer. It's madness.

The new guys who come in will decide if they want to keep Mense and Hague, or bring in their own guys. Tinnish is the VP of International Scouting & Baseball Operations. I used to know him fairly well, but we don't cross paths anymore. I'd be curious to know what he's responsible for now. Again, the new guys will come in and decide who they want to keep and who gets shown the door. It will be interesting to see if they go for a young, inexperienced GM - or go with a more seasoned one.

As soon as Lacava is let go AA will scoop him up. Also if so many key personnel under him need to go, how do you give Shapiro a pass? Doesn't make sense. I don't buy his polished persona. He has to own it.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 As soon as Lacava is let go AA will scoop him up. Tinnish might go there too. AA was taking him with him until he made a last minute decision to back out and keep his family in Ontario.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 Yeah, at the minimum they have to get rid of Atkins, Schneider, Guillermo, Mattingly, and Shane Farrell. Ideally just get rid of Shapiro and the new president will take care of the rest.

If you actually have real contact with some of these people it is harder to be an unhinged online maniac and demand vigilante justice. Imagine a poster that actually knows one of these guys running into him... Tinnish - "Good to see you again. Weird thing though, some of the interns were looking at Blue Jays message board, and you seem to want us all fired including Shapiro, accuse us of being incompetent phonies, and for some reason want Justin Trudeau fired too... not a fan of him exactly but what does Trudeau have to do with the baseball ops? BJMB Poster- "It's the system Andrew. Nothing personal. You are all phonies with a salary, a lifestyle and a career you don't deserve. We need to bring power back to the people and it's starts by getting rid of the criminals at the top including Trudeau, Shapiro, and yes, you too Andrew. Nothing personal, but you have ruined the Blue Jays and thus ruined my life, as Blue Jays baseball is all I have." Tinnish- "I see. Well. Do you want to grab a beer and catch up?"

Yes forgot about that. Good point. AA seems like a very loyal guy. He gave Gibby a scouting gig when he needed something. Shapiro seems like a guy who wouldn't return your phone calls a week after letting you go.

I played ball against him. Our team had connections with a team in Nepean, so for like 15 years, we'd go to their tournament and they'd come up and play in ours. We got to know all those guys really well over the years. Tinnish didn't play for Nepean, but was good friends with several of them and decided to pull together and enter his own team into our tournament for 4-5 years. It was mostly old teammates from Brock. I was always so fascinated about the inner workings of the team and the thought processes, but it always felt so invasive, so I picked my spots. A teammate and I went to his Christmas party one year and got to meet AA there. AA asked everyone at the party to guess who he (AA) felt was the best prospect in our system. It must have been like 2011 or 2012 because my guess was Drew Hutchison, but the answer was Aaron Sanchez (which nobody guessed). Anyway - life's gotten in the way and I probably haven't seen him in 8 years now.

Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 Put them all in a room, roll an grenade in and see who's left. lol. Sort of demonstrates my point about how you have to act a little different if you've actually met these guys and might meet them again... If Brownie might someday get to go to the Tinnish Christmas party again he can't threaten to kill them all.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 It always makes me laugh when people think Shapiro can even get fired. He’s the President. He didn’t put the team together. Ross Atkins and his staff did. Mark Shapiro has spent the last several years planning and executing the renovation. Atkins and Scheneider will go at some point. Probably a staff overhaul in general.

Not realistic to bring someone into the job and say, you have a couple of weeks to get up to speed and make decisions that will shape the direction of the franchise going forward. Whether you have confidence in the Shat or not, they are more familiar with the assets than anyone. They'll pulling the trigger on moves this deadline (with direction from ownership no doubt). Come September/October, Atkins will be ninja dust.

AMS528 Verified Member Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 It's sad this has to be explained... It's definitely true, and it would not make sense to replace Atkins right before the deadline, but it is incredibly unfortunate that the guy that may certainly be fired at the end of the season is the one who will handle major decisions at the deadline that will have strong role in shaping the teams future. If the Jays manage to win even a couple more games than they lose and are still within spitting distance it is of concern that Atkins may be motivated to save his ass. Even if he's not, the idea here is that he's done a poor enough job that he's going to get canned and nonetheless we're stuck with him making these decisions. Unfortunate for the next GM as well.
