Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2024 Posted May 30, 2024 So let's say the Jays punt on the season and trade a few starters (Kuch, Gasman, Bassett). Why not get creative and start stretching Richards out as starter? The Marco Estrada method. Give Pete Walker something to do. After the deadline, sure.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2024 Posted May 30, 2024 I think I found the Jays problem all year. We just weren't playing the White Sox every game lol.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2024 Posted May 30, 2024 Did someone dump the Gatorade on Romano BEFORE he came to the mound? He's absolutely drenched.
Jaysareus Verified Member Posted May 30, 2024 Posted May 30, 2024 Romano's fastball not that fast anymore
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2024 Posted May 30, 2024 Romano looks hurt. He was grabbing his left side a bit
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2024 Posted May 30, 2024 Romano looks hurt. He was grabbing his left side a bit His mechanics look terrible right now.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2024 Posted May 30, 2024 Come on Romano, we're going to need you to be better than you have been. A win is a win
Jaysareus Verified Member Posted May 30, 2024 Posted May 30, 2024 That was almost a second home run.romano has lost it
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2024 Posted May 30, 2024 His mechanics look terrible right now. Kinda like he might be compensating for a slight injury A strikeout and 3 rockets given up, luckily only 1 left the yard 100.6, 107.3 (HR) and 107.2.

hanton Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2024 Author Posted May 30, 2024 Jays took care of business though, a few bats starting to pick-up
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2024 Posted May 30, 2024 Hope Manoah is okay. Nice to sweep the White Sox. Gotta keep this momentum rolling hopefully.

He hasn’t looked good at all this year. Could easily have 2-3 more blown saves with worse luck

Could easily have 2-3 more blown saves with worse luck Have to start asking the question would it be smart to move him out of the closers role for a bit until he figures things out? I love Romano and hope he can right the ship, but don't feel that confident in him closing out a one or two-run game against a team like the Yankees, Orioles, or pretty much anyone right now etc.

Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted May 30, 2024 Posted May 30, 2024 Hopefully Green can be effective now that he's back. Right now the list of relievers you trust in high leverage is: Yimi Garcia End of list. I guess Richards has been pretty good too, but damn has the bullpen ever fallen hard this season.

Yeah if Green is good that will go a long way to shoring things up. Freaking sucks that Manoah got hurt though. He was looking like he could stick in the rotation and that would have allowed us to put Francis back in the bullpen. Now Francis is probably a bulk inning guy/starter.

He clearly got the message last year and it looks like he worked his ass off to get in better shape and the early results were positive. Now he's probably f***ed. This team isn't catching many breaks these days.

Mayza has generally been solid since around the second week of April as well. He had one really bad outing on the 10th of April where he allowed 3 ER in a third of an inning but has pitched to a 3.38 ERA/2.45 FIP since. His strikeouts are way down though which is certainly not ideal.

Guys like Connor Cooke, Hagen Danner and Mason Fluharty were supposed to be ready to contribute this year. Which coach told Cooke to start walking 8 per 9? Like WTF man. Danner has been better as of late - it might be time to see what he's got.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2024 Posted May 30, 2024 I think things should be better for the pen moving forward though. Romano is worrisome and I think Genesis just sucks. I would probably replace him the first chance I got. But Mayza has been pretty good since the second week of April. Pop looks serviceable. Pearson's underlying numbers look pretty good, he's just getting BABIP'd a little bit. Richards is his usual self. Yimi has been lights out. Just got Green back who should be good.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2024 Posted May 30, 2024 Unfortunately I don’t think Romano will be moved out of the closer role until he blows several games in a row. If he has more outings like yesterday he probably stays. Gotta hope he turns things around before it costs us

Masterbather Verified Member Posted May 30, 2024 Posted May 30, 2024 Bullpen is still extremely iffy for me. Yimi is great, the rest all have some level of concern be it health or underlying stats. In fact, of all our pitchers only Yimi and Kikuchi have really stepped up their game vs last year. You could sort of see it coming from Kikuchi, Yimi was a surprise, but others are roughly the same or have worse underlying numbers.
