Can we get a Negativity thread?

It's all... all the other ones

It's all... all the other ones

A special message from commissioner Rob Manfred

In honor of your positivity thread here is the positive story of the day. Gunnar Henderson, 2023 rookie of the year and led the Orioles to 101 wins. 2024 major league homerun leader and has the Orioles on pace for even more wins!

Now that the Orioles have won 101 they will surely lose out in the draft? Not so fast. To keep the game strong we need dynasties so give teams with top performing Rookies even more draft picks and for that reason, the Orioles (thanks to Gunnar Henderson) will have three first round draft picks this year!

So many good things happening to our Oriole friends and it is such a delight to see Blue Jays fans cheering with them, instead of just frowning as their own prospects, like that Indian kid, fail! **

(** Nothing against Indian kids, we are totally confident that once the Orioles get their hands on one, baseball will indeed have it's first Eastern Indian Star!!!)

Baseball, a game of joy, a game of legends!

But maybe it didn't have to be if we have the place to be negative : )

Jays have an opportunity to win the series today down in Washington! 2 of 3 would be a nice way to start this road trip!

I think Manoah throws a good game today

5 ish innings with 7-8K and a few walks but only 1-2 runs score

Can they at least replace all the dudes on the broadcast with gorgeous chicks. Give us something. It's not like we need real analysis of this dumpster fire.

Special message from commissioner Rob Manfred

Baseball is a game of legends, a game of dynasties, a game of joy.

Your team can't win every year so to be a fan you must be a fan of the game. If you are serious about a positivity thread you must find joy in the positive success stories around the game.

It was just this week announced that Baltimore has the player of the month, and the rookie of the month, and 3 first round draft picks coming off of a 101 win season. We have never seen anything like this.

Not content to be a distance second, the Washington DC Metro areas National League entry looks to be on the verge of contention soon as well, as we saw by their heart warming series win over Toronto.

Are we on the verge of a beltway series? I would not be surprised if we see that soon, but it is oh so important that the Nationals have success too as they will be in the shadow of the Baltimore multi-generational dynasty for the next several decades.

So as baseball commissioner I am pleased as punch to see the Nationals play well over the weekend.

Baseball, a game of joy, a game of happiness, a game for the fans! Enjoy it all beltway fans. Enjoy it all!

Maybe they can pick up Suyzn Waldman as a FA

The Jays never gave Bo or Vlad mega deals....that's a positive.

Should be able to move on from these schlubs with a minimum amount of pain.

Yes at least if they go full rebuild it will be a clean slate very soon

Guasman and Berrios are assets on their deals and the only other guaranteed money in 2026 = Springer and Y. Rod at $7M.

So, the only bad money on the books = Springer's remaining 2024/2025/2026 and I guess Bassitt's 2024/2025. Hard to argue that the smaller amounts for IKF and Green matter at all. Vlad rest of 2024 is bad money though lol.

The financial situation is sort of positive! Yay!

Hard to see us ever having lean years like the current Orioles squad.

I would think Rogers at least continues to push short term deals to keep the team from tanking 100%.

Deals like Turner, KK, etc will likely still happen even during a rebuild

I would largely expect a rebuild behind the scenes similar to what occurred after the 2015/2016 teams reached their nadir. That didn't exactly prove to be the best strategy last time around as the team wasn't blown up when it became apparent the writing was on the wall, and likely won't be the proper strategy this time around either.

Hypothetically if you could 'save' money in 2026 and spend it in 2030 what would be better

55, 55, 55 wins 2025-28 with 70 million payroll

or

75, 75, 75 wins 2025-28 with 180 million payroll

Budgets are year to year so might be harder to get permission to use money saved in future year, but what if you could?

Imagine 3 55 win years lead to - top 3 draft picks, huge international signing pool, prospects obtained by trading vets, + cash on hand to invest

Would the 55 win years be better long term? Or would the fickle fans not watch the first 100 win Blue Jays team in history because they are salty over a 55 win season ?

Jays can get to 87 wins if they play .560 ball from here on in. 125 games left.

Far from impossible. Not probable. They need to get on a roll stat.

Between here and the deadline is critical as it will determine if buyers or potentially sellers.

Today was a good start.

Everyone got on base today via 12 hits and 2 BBs. That's pretty damn good against the collection of pitchers the Phillies threw at us today.

On top of it, Bassitt looked very good. Zach Pop is showing a pulse again. Mayza has been struggling but not including today he's got a 1.77 FIP since April 11.

The positive thing and I'm not joking is that Bo and Vlad will never be easier to re-sign than right now

Yes and no. They probably want a short term deal to rebuild value. Maybe they would be willing to sign some kind of short term deal with club option at this point.

Like 1 years 20 million extensions for 2026 with 3 year 100 million club option.

Why Bo/Vlad sign it. Guarantees them another 20 million of life time earnings during this confusing time of sucking

Why team signs it. 20 million is a big waste at their current production but they are paying for a shorter team option that would get Jays all of their prime if rehabilitated.

Not sure which side says no. But probably is a bad deal for one... really hard to figure out what kind of contract extension would make sense, like I said some arrangement that gives Vlad/Bo more guaranteed salary and security, and in return gives Jays are good option for taking on the risk.

With more players like them we can become the next Kansas City Royals

The Royals are a good example of a laughing stock team that has way more controllable talent than us.
