Masterbather Verified Member Posted April 27, 2024 Posted April 27, 2024 I’m not overly invested in this roster to be quite honest. And I do love the Blue Jays but I don’t have any expectations for this team. So I don’t really get overly upset about the results. Especially April results. Losing to the Royals 3/4 was pretty embarrassing but looking back at things in perspective. This team probably isn’t that much better than the Royals despite the price tag. A lot of roster holes for a team this expensive. I feel mostly the same, low expectations. I'm mainly displeased because it's supposed to be our competitive window but clearly we're not competitive with the best teams, I'd rather be rebuilding than to spin our wheels. I would have accepted starting to rebuild a couple of off-seasons ago because I could see where this was going. I think the Royals are a fascinating team, I don't think they're this good, but then again their division is not all that great so who knows what they can do? Dollar for dollar they absolutely are better.

Laika Community Moderator Posted April 27, 2024 Posted April 27, 2024 You would have accepted a rebuild after the 2021 season? You could see where this was going? Do tell. "Rebuild" can just be a 2 year process In hindsight trading Bo and Vlad two years ago would have been INSANELY lucrative. Of course, saying that now is just a dick tuck wet fart move because it's dumb AF to impute 2024 knowledge into a 2021 context

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2024 Posted April 27, 2024 Royals have been the best team we faced, save for the Yankees. It’s really early in the Season stil. Not super convinced they are this good. Better than what many expected sure.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2024 Posted April 27, 2024 It’s really early in the Season stil. Not super convinced they are this good. Better than what many expected sure. That doesn't really matter, a hot team is always hard to face. But also it was three 1-run games (we threw 2 of them away with errors and 1 was a BS 5-inning game), not like we got blown out. A bit of luck on the hitting side and it could have been a sweep for us. Bottom line is this team is the exact same as last year. Same strengths same warts.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2024 Posted April 27, 2024 After the 2022 season. lol... that's not what you said, and that WAS our team moving forward? You're a fool, keep digging *******.

I said a couple of offseasons ago, 2023 was the last off season, 2022 was a couple. Pretty simple math, even for you. You keep trying so hard and failing so miserably. You're out of your depth.

Masterbather Verified Member Posted April 27, 2024 Posted April 27, 2024 You say this s*** every year, it's not hard looking for failure, you invalid. EVERY DAMN YEAR Nope, I didn't say it after 2020 and I didn't say it after 2021, I was pretty optimistic after both seasons actually, just felt we needed some important tweaks. I did feel like this front office wasted 2021 that's for sure, and I'm not wrong about that. Unfortunately some s*** has gone wrong since 2022 and it's been pretty clear where the path is going. The team is progressively getting worse. A big part of it, although not all of it, is a superstar that unfortunately is fraudulent. This core clearly has a low ceiling as a contender and a lousy floor. Time to restock and try again with different management; better management. We still have enough assets that we can rebuild fairly quickly if we wanted to.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2024 Posted April 27, 2024 Bottom line is this team is the exact same as last year. Same strengths same warts. Its not a great bet to expect an aging and often injured Springer, Vlad, Fat slow bat Kirk to drive an offensive resurgence. We knew it would be a tall order to expect the pitching staff to repeat health and performance from 2023. The '24 team is 23rd in runs scored in 2024. 13th in wRC+. 19th in ISO. In ERA, FIP, WAR we are 21st to 28th. We show better on xFIP so unlucky on FBs? Kooch and Berrios have overperformed. Gausman under. Yariel helpful. All those team pitching numbers were way better in 2023. Even though its a SSS which can skew the numbers, every team has had a blow out or 2 against them a month in. We are tops in MLB D so far, which offsets the FIP some.

It's also a completely moot point, because MLB teams don't operate that way. They were coming off seasons of 91 and 92 wins in 2021 and 2022. It would basically be unprecedented to jump into a rebuild at that point. The biggest problem with the team this year, by far, is that Vlad and Bo are both at 0.0 WAR almost a full month into the season. That's absolutely crippling.

It's just the temerity of the guy saying he saw ALL this coming years ago like he is some baseball oracle. Kind of grinds my gears and I usually let a lot of stuff pass.

Nobody has a crystal ball, but who didn't think at the time that missing the playoffs by a game in 2021 wasn't a massive missed opportunity? We added Berrios at the deadline, but the pen performance in '21 will haunt us. We had CY winner and 2nd and 3rd in MVP on that team. We even had Tanner Roark!

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2024 Posted April 27, 2024 We are perfectly mediocre The Jays are a borderline mid-to-high 80-win WC team which will have to heavily rely on their pitching again to sneak into one of the final WC spots.

Let's hope the Jays make some bold moves at the deadline to fix this lineup. Can't waste another season of great pitching with a mediocre lineup.
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2024 Posted April 27, 2024 How so? It's the 3rd inning, we were down 7 and his pitch count was fine, you don't believe in saving the pen or something? I beleive in saving my prized starter and of course bassitt will take one for the team
