John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2024 Posted March 9, 2024 The direction seems to be down not up for him. Probably yes. But a gradual decline vs a cliff. Would it really shock anyone to Springer put up 2.5 fWAR this season? no. Would it shock people if Springer was replacement level? Yes. It's probably more likely he gets hurt than it is that he outright sucks.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted March 9, 2024 Posted March 9, 2024 Robertson with the slam. 13-5 now 8 run 9th for the Jays
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2024 Posted March 9, 2024 He knows next to nothing about baseball. If it was up to him, Nathan Lukes would be the everyday RF over Springer. Free rent feels good clown. You're a sad person, wow.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted March 9, 2024 Posted March 9, 2024 Man Gabby Martinez looks tiny Another hit. Still only 1 out

His eye up at the plate looks fine but the power will probably drop off hard.

Or he's fully healthy, not coming into spring coming off an injury and surgery and puts up a .900 OPS! That's what I'm predicting.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted March 10, 2024 Posted March 10, 2024 I’m sold. Wes Parsons is our 5th starter/swingman to start the season.

Jays SP depth suddenly not so suspect Francis - looks good White - looks better Tiedemann - is alive Parsons - may be a bit more than a AAA journeyman? Further down, a couple prospects have had positive showings. Rave reviews for Kendrys Rojas. Ryan Jennings bag of pitches looks sick. Chad Dallas showed an MLB breaking ball at least.

Francis looks quite capable. The way his curve tunnels off the fastball, I can imagine that would be really hard to pick up as a hitter, especially since he doesn't have that long loopy kind of curve that humps up noticeably out of the hand.

Too bad Manoah looks like a lost cause… really gotta hope one of the main 4 don’t have any struggles or setbacks. Obviously Kikuchi would be a prime candidate

Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted March 10, 2024 Posted March 10, 2024 lol @ making definitive roster determinations based on a couple weeks of ST Jesus, you really are the forums resident f***tard. He says things like "suddenly not so suspect" "looks good" "looks better" "is alive" "may be more than a AAA journeyman" and you somehow equate that to him making "definitive roster determinations"
The_DH Verified Member Posted March 10, 2024 Posted March 10, 2024 Gotta admit, on that game at the end of prior season I thought Parsons was dog meat and should be opened up to protect just about anyone. He looked a whole lot different in this game.

Why does he thank everything that is anti Laika? It is just a freedom convoy alliance or something?

It is also a rare occasion where I hit the “like” button on a Connor post. I just so happen to think Connor is accurate in his assessment in this particular case, reference to the Team’s pitching depth.

Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted March 10, 2024 Posted March 10, 2024 connor is not right in his assessment though. Francis has looked good for a season and a half now, including the AFL in 2022 White absolutely tore s*** up in AAA to finish last season and has picked right up where he left off in ST this year Parsons does actually appear to have figured something out, and it doesn't matter really because he is waaaaaay down the depth chart anyways Tiedemann is Tiedemann. The stuff is electric, he just has to stay healthy and build up his stamina for longer outings And Laika didn't even mention Yariel Rodriguez And none of that changes the fact that Laika's post didn't make a single "definitive roster determination" he just said these pitchers actually look good and like they will serve as decent depth pieces, which is 100% true

I just don’t agree we have seen enough or there is a track record of enough of anything yet to state our pitching depth is looking good. I have zero faith in Mitch White. Even if Bowden looks good, that might be one assuming Tiedmen take the 5th spot or vice versa. Remember, we still have a 5th spot we need to fill. Maybe two spots depending on injury or suckage. Having one realistic possibility is not really depth IMO.

Francis, White, Tiedemann, Rodriguez and even Parsons are all decent bets to at the very least soak up some innings for the team as needed. Some of them might even prove to be average if not better major league starters so I fail to understand the reason for so much consternation.

At what point had he shown at the MLB level he is? Just because we have a warm body who is stretched out as an SP doesn’t mean we have depth. We have to assume Manoah is not starting the season. Take Tiedimen and make him 5th spot. I see Bowden as only guy with a smidgen of success at the MLB level. The other depth you are talking about have zero MLB innings or track record as far as I am aware and I believe Rodriguez is a pen guy is he not? Are they stretching him out when off IL? The Blue Jays as a Team were waaaaay under average amount of SPs used due to the health and reliability of the big 4. The chances of us having that luck with the age group we have is not good. I just see teams like the Reds who have Nick Martinez and there might not be a spot for him on the starting 5. Same goes for Detroit where if Gipson/Long wasn’t on the IL there wouldn’t be a spot for him. No spots for Faedo, Wentz or Brieske among others. Sanchez on Philly is not assured a 5th spot. Assad and or Wicks might not even get a 5th spot with the Cubs, Zerpa with KC, Vasquez is San Diego.. Just some examples. Assuming Manoha is out I see Francis as the only MLB proven depth piece not in the rotation.
