Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2024 Posted March 20, 2024 Yeah they’ve started the season in Japan with similar start times in the past. Sucks for US/CAD fans but with the time difference there’s really no logical way to make it work other than taking the L in the North American numbers in order to try to build a bigger MLB following globally. Baseball being popular in Korea doesn’t mean MLB is popular there so picking a part of the world that already likes baseball and try to convert fans that way is probably easier. I think it takes away from "opening day" a bit, which I really don't like. And I don't think fans in those respective countries will really care if it's the "kick-off" to the season or not - but it's probably the only way to make it feasible for a time/travel perspective is to do it before the season "really" starts.
Pinkfloid Verified Member Posted March 20, 2024 Posted March 20, 2024 Appreciate everyone's perspective. Just seems gimmicky to me to have the games count. I'm sure attendance and viewership over there wouldn't take much of a hit if the games were purely exhibition. In fact, why not have a best-of-seven mini playoff or something to make it interesting? Having two games with regular season implications and then just coming back to play more spring training games feels wrong.

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2024 Posted March 21, 2024 3 HRs 7 RBIs all before the 4th inning. If Stanton can turn the clock back like we're hoping Votto does then the Yankees are dangerous as hell man.

Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted March 21, 2024 Posted March 21, 2024 Uhhh, is it just me or do we really believe the translator did it? Seems fishy anyways.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2024 Posted March 21, 2024 ST stats are pretty meaningless Not for a guy many were expecting the Yankees would DFA. Also don't tell us that when Blue Jay Nation lost its mind after Votto's one AB loll.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted March 21, 2024 Posted March 21, 2024 Why in the f*** are we comparing Votto to Stanton exactly? Because they are both old? There is no comparison between the two. Votto is on a minor league deal for christ sakes. The Jays get ANYTHING from him it's just a bonus. The Yankees are paying Stanton $32 million this year and for three more years after this. He's a goddamn boat anchor. You're comparing apples to oranges acting like the Jays need or expect anything at all from Votto. They don't.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 21, 2024 Posted March 21, 2024 Uhhh, is it just me or do we really believe the translator did it? Seems fishy anyways. I thought the same thing. Is there more to this???
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2024 Posted March 21, 2024 The more probable reason is he tried to bed the new bride
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted March 21, 2024 Posted March 21, 2024 Or maybe Ohtani is a degenerate gambler and they are going to make this guy take the fall to protect their $700 million investment?
The_DH Verified Member Posted March 21, 2024 Posted March 21, 2024 I thought the same thing. Is there more to this??? Count me in on this too. The translator is taking the fall for Shohei. So that's his thing. Don't know if the Dodgers could get out from under that in any other way.
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2024 Posted March 21, 2024 The interpreter has access to Ohtani's bank account? gotta believe there's more to this
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2024 Posted March 21, 2024 Oh imagine if Ohtani got the Pete Rose treatment? I don't give a s*** about the negative impact on the image of baseball, or the lost revenue and especially not the loss for the Dodgers. I'd be laughing so hard I would pee my next six sets of pants. Also, in the alternate universe where Ohtani signs with the Jays, 100% he gets a lifetime ban for gambling on MLB games March 27, 2024. Krylian is then named god.

Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2024 Posted March 21, 2024 Latest News Mar 20, 2024 10:33 PM EDT The Yankees have resumed contract discussions with Montgomery, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. Analysis After losing out on the Blake Snell sweepstakes, the Yankees remain in search of a starter to make up for the loss of Gerrit Cole (elbow), who is in line to miss the first several months of the season. There is reportedly still a gap between what Montgomery is asking for and what the Yankees are offering him, but the two sides may be pressured into reaching a deal quickly with roughly a week remaining before Opening Day.

Also, you guys are f***ed, this is a dodgy POS that tried to steal from a long time friend, what a goof. Is he? Why the hell would an interpreter have access to significant sums of Ohtani's money? If he did and was misusing it, how would an accountant not have noticed until now? Did Ohtani's camp really not find out about a federal investigation until it showed up in the press? If they found out earlier, why was the interpreter still working for him yesterday? If Ohtani is innocent, there's some unbelievable incompetence in the people surrounding him. Things definitely don't add up right now. I think it's fair to question it.

And yes, a longtime friend tried to f*** him over, f*** that guy. There's no funny stuff going on, stupidity sure, he just got his wakeup call.

Optically it's still really really bad for the name of the poster boy of an entire sport worldwide to be even associated with something like this. Manfred is probably wishing he retired a week ago now.

Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2024 Posted March 21, 2024 Hoping for a better game than yesterday, sloppy pitching and play and no extra base hits...
