Is Betts mediocre? I don't think we know that yet, it was his position before getting blocked by Bogaerts in Boston.

 

Yes I believe the metrics from last year showed he wasn’t good as SS. Its a SSS but we will see this year. He’s not gonna be good or above-average, he’ll be passable at best.

 

Good thing his bat is bonkers

For $300M I was expecting to see more velo

 

They put out 375 mil. He's 5'10 and throws a mid 90s fastball and spins the ball really well. The stro show spins the ball really well with good command and his FB velocity is only a couple ticks below that. I thought he was 96 to 98. Lots of pitchers in the MLB spin it well. The dodgers could have put out 375 mil for a number 3 starter.

Betts was basically a pure 2B. Last played SS at like 19 years old

I'm probably over reacting. The velocity was 96.6, 95, 95.8, 95.6, 96.6, 96.3, 96.1, 94.7, 95.4, 94.3, 94.9, 94.3. 94.8.

 

The velocity is decent, but those numbers coming from a 5'10 guy are different than coming from a 6'6 guy. I'm mostly just hoping he sucks because the Dodgers can spend so much money.

but the fastball might have a good plane because he's short, and good ride

 

96 with a helpful release point and good IVB/spin could be plus plus

I haven't read into this, but I believe they originally said Ohtani gave him $4.5M to pay off gambling debts or something and then changed the story to suggest he stole it? It does seem super odd that his interpreter has access to his bank account (maybe he was given authorization to take a certain amount out, but took way more?). I think it's best to reserve judgement (either way) until there is more information available.
