Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2024 Posted March 19, 2024 Report: Giants, Snell agree to 2-year, $62M deal https://www.thescore.com/mlb/news/2872376
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2024 Posted March 19, 2024 Giants just getting all these bargain deals. Happy it's happening in the NL West and not in the AL East lol.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 19, 2024 Posted March 19, 2024 He turned down what? 6/150 from the Yankees?
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2024 Posted March 19, 2024 Another win for Boras How? 2/62 for Snell is not a win
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2024 Posted March 19, 2024 I think I would rather have Montgomery for consistency. Now we have a baseline to work backwards from.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2024 Posted March 19, 2024 That is a crazy deal holy s***
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2024 Posted March 19, 2024 How? 2/62 for Snell is not a win Obviously sarcasm
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2024 Posted March 19, 2024 Another win for Boras What did you think he'd get? It's a pillow deal, he wanted waaaaaay more than that.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 19, 2024 Posted March 19, 2024 How? 2/62 for Snell is not a win ^ sarcasm
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 19, 2024 Posted March 19, 2024 Atkins mis timed the market so bad Very unusual off season I'm.usually in favour of being aggressive early but this was not the year to do it in retrospect
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 19, 2024 Posted March 19, 2024 2/62 for the reigning CY winner is crazy
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2024 Posted March 19, 2024 He went to the right park to continue his value.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2024 Posted March 19, 2024 2/62 for the reigning CY winner is crazy The first year has to be 40M right?
wamco Verified Member Posted March 19, 2024 Posted March 19, 2024 The first year has to be 40M right? No beavis. 15m now , 17m paid in 2026. 30m option for 2025

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2024 Author Posted March 19, 2024 2/62 for the reigning CY winner is crazy I’m not so sure, how long has he been a healthy top of the rotation guy? 2 seasons out of the last 6? Dude walked the most hitters in MLB last year while winning the Cy Young. I think there enough question marks surrounding his health and his command that a long term deal was probably never in the cards despite what he was seeking. Even Montgomery was rumoured to be wanting a 7 year deal. That’s lunacy for a guy who’s only been really good for such a short time overall. I don’t blame them for wanting to get as much as possible but thy have to be somewhat realistic at the same time.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2024 Posted March 19, 2024 This woman isn't genuine, not an ounce in her body. No bueno.
wamco Verified Member Posted March 19, 2024 Posted March 19, 2024 No-one could foresee the market cratering as it did. Actually Beavis, common sense speculated that this FA top of the class all Had major warts that could prevent the traditional long term deals with high AAV. Some were inconsistent offense, some durability, some age etc. And as they didn’t reach mega deals , there would be trickledown to lower FA. We had at least 51m to spend and in conjunction with many teams having cable contract issues, we should have held funds tighter and waited it out. Atkins chose 2016 style instead.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2024 Posted March 19, 2024 Yeah, gotta think Boras at least lost a little shine this year. He’ll be just fine but people noticed.
wamco Verified Member Posted March 19, 2024 Posted March 19, 2024 For sure. As early as next year chap, snell, bellinger could get better offers is they bang this year. Jd Martinez prob not due to age. Still to be seen what Montgomery gets
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2024 Posted March 19, 2024 Snell is coming off a Cy Young season. I'm not sure he's going to get more on the FA market next year (even if he performs well again this year). If teams won't pay him what he wants this season, why would they next offseason, when he's a year older with more milage on his arm? This isn't a Belly situation where people just doubt that he's "back".
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2024 Posted March 19, 2024 Be hard to believe he couldnt have gotten maybe 6/175 or something. Botas may have overplayed his hand in this case. Chapman wasn’t going to get the payday. Belly was a tricky situation

He hasn’t really proven he can toss 150+ innings per year. 2023 was a weird season with the BB rate. If he repeats his success for another year, he can probably sign something like a 5/150. He probably had multiple 4-5 year deals on the table this offseason for a lower AAV.

For reasons like you said, I never considered Snell one of the elite arms in baseball.
