Max- sometimes you've got to have both the courage and testicular fortitude to trade talented players like *checks notes* Yimi Garcia and Cavan Biggio.

I know they might seem untouchable but I promise you we could survive without them.

Don't get me wrong I have no qualms with trading either of these guys but each of them provides enough value commensurate to their respective salaries and are rather inexpensive such that removing them just opens up new holes that the minor league system might not be able to fill right away.

Tell me your over 50 without telling me you're over 50.

Excellent reference though.

Actually I just turned 40. I'm a big fan of Canadian music especially when I go for a soda.

Saw the Detroit Tigers picked up Shelby Miller in late December for $3M. Nice pickup. Loved him last offseason as well as a high upside BP arm and he went on to post a 1.71 ERA and 0.91 WHIP and 42 K's in 42 innings with the Dodgers last season.

I want Biggio playing over IKF and Espinal for sure.

Unfortunately it looks like IKF is going to play the majority of the season at Third Base.

Would be fine if they moved off of Garcia but only if it was to open salary for more impactful player.

The way the roster stands right now it's actually Biggio who likely stands to see the majority of 3B innings if Davis Schneider proves he's not a one season wonder and grabs hold of an everyday spot at 2B.

Lineup vs non-high velo RHP (The majority of SP teams see over 162 games)

C Jansen/Kirk

1B Vlad

2B Schneider

3B Biggio

SS Bo

LF Varsho

CF Kiermaier

RF Springer

DH Soler/Joc

Guys, IKF is the presumptive 3B.

The only argument for signing him is that his 3B defense is elite. They didn't pay 2/15 for a backup infielder or utility man.

Not saying they can't sign Chapman and adjust IKF's role but barring that, nobody on the roster is jumping him on the depth chart without earning it in season

Definitely agree he's currently the top of the 3B depth chart as it stands, and would be looking at 100+ starts there if the season started today. I think they signed him with the idea that he raises the ceiling at 3B based on the current internal options - but at the cost and with his versatility, they are not prevented from continuing to pursue other options either.

7.5M isn't bench guy money but it isn't quality starting 3B money either, pretty much exactly in line with what you would pay a good utility player who can start as much as needed.

Yes I thought that as well. But the Chapman market might come back to us in which case we have to jump back in

Ross Atkins himself disagrees with you. If the Jays don't add any more 3B options to the 26 man roster (which is looking likely) Atkins said 3 way platoon between Biggio/IKF/Espinal. Which I myself disagree with because I just straight up think Espinal is dogshit. But it is what it is, Jays FO still seem to somewhat value him.

Really hope the Jays and Chapman could have a reunion if his price range now is in the $80-100M range. Can't pass up on that opportunity.

The team likely wants to maintain the defense from last season as much as they can, and unfortunately that means IKF is probably going to get 500 PA between 3B and wherever else they play him. I'm trying to warm up to that signing, or look on any bright side I can, but I really don't see it. I hope he proves me wrong.

No worries. All we are doing is our rock ‘n roll duty.

Hopefully he enjoyed his time with the team enough that just matching the other offers is sufficient to bring him back into the fold.

Guaranteed Ross does not disagree with me

They probably think IKF will give them 1.5 WAR in 450 PA, mostly at 3B.

The stuff he says to the media is BS anyway. Lip service for incumbents, etc.

We all say Biggio play a very mediocre defensive 3B for a year. I really don't think they want Cavan playing there much

I wonder what the Jays’ model says for IKF. BR had him at 3.0 and 3.6 for 2022 and 2021. Chapman over those same 2 years were 3.5 and 3.5.

Good 2 have 2 top notch 3b on the roster, ikf can play wherever and not burn the team..even at 3rd string catcher if they need it late in a game for some reason

Can't imagine it's that bullish. The bat just won't project well at all

Regardless, nearly all of IKFs value comes from defense, so keeping him playing the position he is best at defensively will be key.

I'm sure they will throw him in the OF occasionally in weird situations or temporarily due to injury but the bulk of his D better be spent at 3b.

That, of course, doesn't mean the most 3b time should go to him, but when he's saying he should be at the hot corner

We said the same with Varsho…

Yeah. Probably gonna be the same thing this season too. LF defense just isn't as big a deal as CF. It's great to have a good one but he need to hit better no doubt.

I think the Jays are in a tough spot - there is no one you really want to sign out there who will become an albatross the second they sign the player. $200m to Snell or Bellinger? Really? Montgomery is solid but you're probably looking at $150/5 minimum and he doesn't excite me.

No one else really moves the needle - Chapman is a defence first player - on a good team he'd bat 8th and that would be ok.

I think the Jays just tread water for 2024 - they still need to see what Vladdy is - is he a 2 WAR player or an MVP-type player? If the Jays flounder - they have an excise and probably a need to blow it up and start again.

Think we just need to hope for those reports of some teams in a money crunch (SD, MIA, CLE, etc.) to be true. I thought there could be a chance where we could get some talent by eating some money but nothings happened on that front.

When they say monitoring Snell. It probably means nobody is offering Snell 5 years. Jays are probably interested in getting involved at a shorter term. So it wouldn't be anywhere near 5/150 it would be more like 2/60 or 3/75. Gotta pay the Canadian tax. Edited by Jonn

To be honest, the Jays have been rumored to be doing that with practically every free agent that doesn't get what they want right away. It's a good approach because you never know when you get a bargain but there's only so many reports you can take seriously lol.
