MLB trade rumors estimated 4/40 so this shouldn’t be shocking. I was all for that for the jays (as a reliever) Giants will let him try and fail as a sp and then put him back in the pen.

I will happily take Chad Green for 2 years at half the commitment.

Can't wait to bet against the Yankees this year. With how everyone is on their knob with their patchwork offseason moves, I should get some great odds betting them to miss the playoffs again. The team is old, injury-prone, one-dimensional and poorly run. I expect at least one of Judge or Cole to materially decline. I can understand people being on their knobs about their offense. They'll mash a ton of homers and be mediocre everywhere else but that's still considered to be a good offense.

But that rotation? Cortes is basically one half-step above Gustavo Chacin. Rodon is done but they'll haul his ass out there every 5 days because sunk cost until he hits the DL. Clarke Schmidt is Clarke Schmidt. Stroman will probably be personally responsible for half of Guerrero's GIDP this year but other than that I don't see how any of his numbers over the past two years with the Cubs - quantity or quality - is going to translate that well to the AL East. The contract was a very fair one. A couple million dollars less than Bassitt. People complained about that Bassitt contract last year but I'm taking Bassitt over Stroman easy. So Cole has to carry the rotation like he usually does just for it to be okay-ish.

The Yankees are not a 95 win team. They might be an 85 win team and fringe playoff contender. But most likely they are an under .500 team.

I could see them winning 85 games, but i could also see them winning 95. Same with the Jays really

Michael Busch to the Cubs, nice pickup by them

I meant to post this the other day, but was busy.

I do think this is a great pick-up by the Cubs. Wish we could have pulled that off.

Who of our prospects would have been the equivalent to what the Cubs sent if we tried to get him??

I dunno anything about Ferris but he only signed for $500k less than Barriera out of the 2022 draft and had a strong debut on stats

So.... Imma say Brandon Barriera

Stroman to the Yankees on a two-year deal.

I was really hoping the Yankees would tell Stroman to pound sand. It pisses me off that they signed him. I was really hoping Stroman would need to play in Kansas city or Oakland LOL.

The silver lining to this is that it will renew my hatred of the Yankees. The rivalry has been so much less intense since the days of Arod etc. The Yankees have actually been some decent dudes the past few years.

Now, I will want the Jays to destroy the Yankees with a renewed intensity especially when Stroman is pitching.

Silver lining, takes them out on Snell and Montgomery. :P

Holy s***... Yanks just paid out 80Mish today in Arbitration agreements, how much money do these f***ers have? I think the Jays are the 2nd most in the high 30's, lol, that's nuts.

Yankees have been an exactly .500 team since I called them overrated shitbags back in July 2022 and the only one who has noticed has been my bookie. So I'm going to double down hard on this. I already stated my case why I think they will underperform. We'll just have to see how the season plays out. I feel like I live in an alternative universe where everyone thinks the Yankees are good but to me they look like Swiss cheese. They are built like the 2013 Jays. A team where a lot can go wrong and not a lot of contingency plans in place if they do.

Didn't Chapman reject a Jays offer of 100M or so? Lol

It happens. Jays offered EE 4 and 80 and he signed for 3 and 60. Players can't wait to get to free agency because of what their agents promise them and sometimes their market doesn't materialize. I'm not shocked that Chapman is sitting around 5 year 18 mil AAV. He's not young, he had a terrible second half and defense declines in your mid 30s. His value is mostly in the defense he brings day in and day out.

Chapman's market appears to be exactly where most of us thought it should be.

Somehow just under $100M. Not to exceed 100m.

Wonder if Toronto jumps back in now

I would. There's no better way right now to just spend money and get 4 wins

Looking for that larger deal next time around. SF seems to have good success with SPs so a good place to give it a go.

Yeah I like the deal both for the Giants and Hicks.

San Fran has had great success with SPs who have good stuff, in their late 20's and who are looking to bounce back. Look at examples of Kevin Gausman, Carlos Rodon, Anthony DeSclafani, Alex Wood, etc.

Hicks at $11M AAV isn't that bad at all. If he fails as a starter, you just convert him back to being a high leverage reliever.

Well, Chad Green isn't on a four year guaranteed deal, but you're right that the +stuff relievers are getting some pretty big deals. I just see this as too much money given his track record and comparing him to Kikuchi maybe wouldn't be that far off if Jordan Hicks had more than 8 starts ... in his entire major league career.

I think it's a real long shot for him to even be a serviceable starter.

I wonder if others said the same thing about Gausman and Rodon when they both went to the Giants.

But does it?

The Yankees luxury tax payroll is at 300 mil. They could go full Cohen and push it to 330 to 350. Feels like the Yankees woke up and realized they are the Yankees this off season.

Hicks is only 27 though, has plus-plus stuff, coming off a very good season as a high leverage reliever and the Giants are going to experiment with him again in the rotation, so it's different. If Hicks sticks in the rotation and puts up 2-3 WAR seasons as a starter or better, Giants have a bargain over those 4 years. Blue Jays weren't ever going to experiment with Hicks in the rotation. If he has to return back to the bullpen, they likely still get a 1 - 1.5 WAR reliever if he stays healthy. Even at the end of his contract, Hicks will only be 31-32 years-old.

Green on the other hand is coming off a major injury and is 32-years-old. Obviously you wouldn't go 4 years with someone like Chad Green.

The Yankees could still spend money on Snell, Montgomery or Hader. The luxury tax to them doesn't exist. Money to them is no object.

Like DP said, the Yankees still do come with some risk. If a lot of their key guys go down, then things could get ugly. I don't see them as a 95-win team but hey they're the Yankees and it could happen. If they beat up on some bad teams and bank some early wins, makes things easier for them the rest of the way. I still have them as a borderline WC team around the 88-90 win range, but they could very well win 95+ if they stay healthy or they could also be a .500 team if things go wrong. You could even say the same thing about the Blue Jays.

I like the idea of bringing Chapman back a lot for a deal of around $100 million or a touch less. Add one of the good DH bats on top of that and it's a decent enough off season given the lack of good bats in free agency.

Definitely comfortable with Chapman between $80-$100M. Add someone like Soler or JDM or Hoskins alongside with Chapman, that's a solid offseason IMO.
