Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 This would be an asinine use of resources from the Astros if true. Rather pay Tucker 10/400 than Santander 5/100. Tucker is incredibly good. Tucker has to be looking at closer to 500+ though no? Tucker is easily better than Vlad

Tucker is incredibly good. Tucker missed half a season this past year, but there wasn't a huge difference between Soto/Tucker from 2021-2023
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 Tucker has to be looking at closer to 500+ though no? Tucker is easily better than Vlad Yeah definitely possible. Although while he's almost certainly better than Vlad, he'll be 2 years older entering free agency.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 Tucker has to be looking at closer to 500+ though no? Tucker is easily better than Vlad Tucker feels like a player who won't get paid anywhere near what Soto or even Vlad will get, yet he will likely outperform Vlad most years - making him better value. As noted, his age will play a factor in why he wont get paid as much.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 We also traded him and indirectly blamed him/Gurriel for the lack of a serious clubhouse as to why we weren't doing better. Then the Jays didn't want to give him a better deal last year after a down season when they of all teams should know what he's capable of. I want Teo more than most here as I was mentioning all last off-season to go get him. I truly think he will make the Jays severely overpay for him to choose us over the Dodgers. This time he's the one with leverage and I'm sure he'll use all of it. If Atkins signs Hernandez after all that (accurately described btw), that would seal his beta male status forever. This is a guy people here were mixed on because he was such a s*** defender and kind of a goof, now we desperately need him back with the way the team is constructed. Hernandez should have a clause in the contract that he can bang Atkins' wife in front of him upon request. If Atkins played this even just a little bit less clownish, we would be looking at Hernandez's second year of a three year $60 million contract.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 Tucker has to be looking at closer to 500+ though no? Tucker is easily better than Vlad Tucker is light years better, plus he plays RF pretty good and has speed. You got a multi-tool guy vs a 1 tool guy.

Not sure about the banging the wife clause, but agree that Atkins dropped the ball on Hernandez multiple times.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 Yankees are kind of shuffling around deck chairs and paying a premium to do so. They upgraded a SP3 (Cortes) to an SP2 (Fried) and added one year of an elite, but non-workhorse closer. They paid 218 mil to do that. Could have kept Cortes and simply signed Tanner Scott instead. They'd be about 1 WAR worse but would have saved about 160 mil or so.

BTS Community Moderator Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 Just need this to happen and Burnes to sign in SF and Atkins will be prevented from crippling the next regime for half a decade

If we aren't re-signing Vlad/Bo, it was the perfect time to trade with them lol.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 That return feels light.

As noted, his age will play a factor in why he wont get paid as much. If he comes anywhere close to replicating the 180 wRC+ he produced in half a season of play in 2024 he'll likely earn a similar amount to Vlad as he's a solid outfield defender on top of the bat. He doesn't have the bad body concerns hanging over him either.

Dealt from a position of strength...

Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 Like I've said for a while now, without the benefit of being "America's team", Cashman is too much of a dumbass to build a winner. Aimlessly throwing money around while spinning their wheels. The Yankees are on the brink of a collapse and watching them go down the toilet in such a spectacular fashion with a s*** ton of expensive contracts will be hilarious. At least with the Jays we have a bunch of warning signs that it could happen, so it won't be as painful if it does. And with a ton of payroll flexibility should the two "stars" leave. Yankees are second behind the Dodgers at +700 to win the 2025 World Series LMAO. I was wrong about them last year because they got Soto and Judge was still good. But all we need is Judge to channel some of his inner playoffs into regular season play for the first domino to fall. If Judge is not good enough to carry the lineup, the Yankees are basically the Jays with a better bullpen.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 Baerga's batting like .120 with rumors, but hopefully this is one of the few times he knocks one out of the park. lol... Gold, Jerry... Gold!!!

He put up 11.2 wins last year. They will add a couple bats. Will we do so to keep up is the question.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2024 Posted December 14, 2024 Wat? You huffing glue, mate? The Yankees demoted Nestor to the pen in early September. He was not in the rotation anymore.
