He's a 7 win DH.

Probably a 9 win RF.

What's the point of putting him on the mound ever again?

Playoff randomness my friend. Having an Ace up the sleeve is what you want for lady luck. What’s the worst that can happen? You try it, his elbow goes after however long, misses a little time as a hitter and you move on.

Something that he might want to do...

He’s an easy dude to like. Alpha without being a douchebag about it. Easy to overlook he probably had a little bit more complicity in all that drama.

f*** him. I hope both his arms fall off and they have to replace them with his legs.

The angels are so stupid for not trading trout when they could. Got to be the dumbest organization.

He has ten and five rights so it might not have been their choice.

Take all that hate and direct it at the FO. I’ll guarantee you a million dollars I don’t have, NYY, Bos, and half the league would be willing to sign him at the same term Tor would but someway, somehow, none of their fans came away feeling deceived or cheated.

I blame that f***ing billionaire from shark tank. He allowed CAA to use him and that damn plane ride to panic the Dodgers and seal the deal with Los Angeles.

That f***er should be seeing audits for the next 10 years. Treacherous piece of s***.

That was definitely a shady move, however, it was only the Cali teams in the running at that point and it shouldn’t have gotten that far. NYY and the like all wanted him just as bad and moved on when they understood there was no way he was going there. Toronto FO needed to do the same and didn’t.

This is the dumbest f***ing take.

Yeah, they should've given up on trying to sign the most talented player of all time.

Your take on my take is dumb. Do you think the NYY just gave up? You don’t think his agent would know if there’s any chance on hell he’d consider NYY, he can call?

Oof. Was kind of digging Wilson Contreras as my C in Dynasty. Too many years since I had a decent one. Of course his arm gets shattered.

Interesting article. I caught this near the end...

Peña quickly developed a reputation as a clutch performer during his rookie season. He hit .364 with a 198 wRC+ in high-leverage spots, and his 1.20 clutch score ranked ninth among qualified AL hitters. He was Houston’s best hitter in the playoffs, posting a 187 wRC+ en route to earning ALCS and World Series MVP honors. That said, his performance ever since is a good reminder that clutch (or un-clutch) hitting isn’t a sustainable skill. That was bad news for the Astros last year in the ALCS, when their 2022 postseason hero went ice cold, hitting .160/.192/.160 with the lowest WPA in the lineup.

Interesting that they point out that his WPA is the 11th worst in the league but just ahead of him, barely, is Bo Bichette except unlike Pena, Bo's wrc+ is in the toilet too.

Teoscar had an 81 wRC+ at Safeco last season, otherwise he's been a fairly consistent player since 2020 even with the high K rates. Wish the Jays signed him (for performance and clubhouse) but I don't think we can assume he would have come here and performed the same way.

When he was recently here in Toronto, he said he didn't come here cause he couldn't get a multi year deal. He obviously took the Dodger deal for the fact they're the Dodgers.

Hader with the save vs the Yankees, 4-3 Astros. Hader wasn't as dominant as he once was, but got the job done

It's okay. We robbed Erik Swanson from the Mariners which was a complete steal by Atkins!

Swanson had 1.4 WAR last year for $1,250,000, Teoscar had 2.1 WAR for $14,000,000 plus the Jays got SP prospect Macko and then Teo walked away from the Mariners for sweet F all

So yeah, it was a steal really

Whatever he's doing with the Dodgers this year has absolutely no bearing on that trade in any way

Atkins deserves to be criticized for some things, but that trade isn't one of them

Swanson is a 30-year-old reliever and last season had a 0.9 fWAR with a 3.81 xFIP. This season he has a -0.5 fWAR thus far. Not knocking him as he was solid in 2023 and is still under team control for another year, but give me an everyday player like Teo over a reliever like Swanson. Jays could have used Teo's bat last season (probably would have had better numbers in Toronto) and likely would have had a better chance at re-signing him to an extension. Swanson had to be a 1.0 - 1.5 WAR reliever every season, and so far doesn't look like that will happen.

Finding relievers like Swanson should be easy. Shouldn't have to trade assets like Teo for them. We'll see how Macko does.

At least people have stopped complaining about losing Lourdes Gurriel

Kiermaier was signed to replace Teo, and actually hit as well as Teo last year. Out WAR'd him 2.8 to 1.8. The trade actually netted Toronto:

1 WAR upgrade in the OF

1 WAR season from Swanson + 2024 and 2025 seasons from Swanson

2M in savings (Teo made 2M more than Swanson and Teo combined)

Objectively a great trade

Keeping the basis of objection to your usage of WAR as be all, end all, do you think the Jays could be better right now if the traded for defensive WAR? Could they just keep adding D WAR and then get back to a left title threat? Bc I’m sure they could prob swing some trades for that
