That was definitely a shady move, however, it was only the Cali teams in the running at that point and it shouldn’t have gotten that far. NYY and the like all wanted him just as bad and moved on when they understood there was no way he was going there. Toronto FO needed to do the same and didn’t.

Teoscar had an 81 wRC+ at Safeco last season, otherwise he's been a fairly consistent player since 2020 even with the high K rates. Wish the Jays signed him (for performance and clubhouse) but I don't think we can assume he would have come here and performed the same way.

Not knocking him as he was solid in 2023 and is still under team control for another year, but give me an everyday player like Teo over a reliever like Swanson. Jays could have used Teo's bat last season (probably would have had better numbers in Toronto) and likely would have had a better chance at re-signing him to an extension. Swanson had to be a 1.0 - 1.5 WAR reliever every season, and so far doesn't look like that will happen.

Keeping the basis of objection to your usage of WAR as be all, end all, do you think the Jays could be better right now if the traded for defensive WAR? Could they just keep adding D WAR and then get back to a left title threat? Bc I’m sure they could prob swing some trades for that
