Apparently according to the rules he’s being called up exactly a day away from not being eligible for the new draft pick compensation. So I guess that’s still on for them, TIL it didn’t have to be from the very first day of the season.

Yup, clearly they wanted him to get a little seasoning at 2B down in the minors first. I think they must have always intended to have him up for the 10th.

Austin Martin with his 1st major league hit, ended up going 2/3 (2 doubles) with the Twins announcer saying after his 2nd hit...."He's playing tomorrow..."

I don't know how you call everything that TB is doing "********". Would you rather they just take the traditional approach and simply be a broken, bottom feeding franchise?

Yes. That would be preferable. Tampa is innovative in the same way those subprime lender guys were innovative back in the mid-2000's or that Titanic submersible. Toxic innovation from guys who think they are smart but are just arrogant dumbasses with a short-term mindset. Now we are starting to see the fallout. First with the dumb rule changes, now the injuries piling up.

I get your point about guys getting to the majors now, but that's because teams used to roster 12-15 pitchers all year. Teams are rostering up to 30 of mostly nameless, faceless totally interchangeable jobber pitchers throughout a season. Who are then sent out at max effort to try to get out 3-5 good hitters then onto the next jobber before the opponents can study them. Instead of stopping that, the league responds with dumb rules like ghost runners, three batter minimums and shift limits. Baseball never had an issue functioning with Randy Choate types or shifts going back to Ted Williams until the last decade or so.

Guys like Nolan Ryan used to be special. Now teams are trying to copy that output with seven guys instead of one in a given game. That's not fun to watch. Rays and Rays-adjacent FO thinkers ruined the game for fans. Why bother drafting and developing and paying Nolan Ryan types when you can use jobbers instead and throw them on the trash heap? This trend is only going to get worse if it's left unabated. The league will end up hemorrhaging all top end pitching talent because 1. teams won't develop them and 2. the talent pool will shrink because young athletes will choose paths that maximize their payout and minimize their injury risk. Yeah ok, you'll get a growing pool of fringy type of guys who think they can make the majors because some payout is better than none.

Trying to understand why the Orioles even sent Holliday to AAA.

- The corresponding move was the DFA Tony Kemp

- He will still accrue a full year of service time in 2024

- He is apparently still eligible to reward to team if he wins ROY

....

Did they actually just want to see Mateo + Urias + Kemp for 10 games to figure out who to cut? Or hold them all as long as possible to maintain depth in case someone got hurt?

Did they actually just want to see Holliday start at 2B for a week in AAA, to make sure his defense was fine?

Get comfortable at 2B and avoid all the LHPs the Os got to start the year plus they're feeling pressure from NYY

Is Atkins did this - fans would have lost their f***ing minds. I thought the O's GM was amazing, how could he have done such a thing?

I guess that's a possibility. Maybe they decided to check the standings around this date and if the O's were already 4 games up and everyone else looked flat they would hold him down and game service time to get 6.69 years of control but if they were in a dog fight they would call him up.

Thirst trap alert: Lance Lynn is absolutely drenched playing in the rain in wet see-through Fanatics uniform, just mowing down the Phillies.

This is what imagine the entire league looked like back in, like, 1890.

They may also have considered better to let him dominate AAA pitching for a few games. Lessen the risk of him pulling a Kelenic and struggle in the toughest jump for a prospect.

They were going over retired ballplayer numbers for the Yankees and mentioned Mattingly's 23 and said by the Marlins very own Don Mattingly? Like are they dumn, or am I missing something?

Home plate umpires need to be abolished, just call balls and strikes from an earpiece, use check swings for the corner umpires and call plays at the plate. Seriously.

Given this, somewhat surprising the Bucs did not call up Skenes. Pretty much already apparent he is too good to be in AAA.

Yeah that one is definitely puzzling

Lol that was both fast and predictable

Yeah, really the only part that I want explained is how the guy got access to his bank accounts ... That's really the only part that needs explaining to accept the "theft" explanation as legit.

Right now I don't believe that story. But I also don't believe Ohtani gambled.

Yeah its one of those things where he PROBABLY broke the rules to the letter of the law (if he paid of Ippei's dept as a friend), but he didn't morally break the rules, which is kinda the part that matters to MLB

It was already explained right off the top. Ohtani knew about the gambling debts and paid them off for him. Your agent doesn't just come out and say that without knowing something. To believe the lawyer crafted second story strikes me as a little naive. Ohtani himself lied to the media about a fan interaction a couple of weeks later. It's not as if he deserves any benefit of the doubt.
