hanton Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 Thaaaaaa benches clear in Baltimore. How bout those Brewers and Pirates? tops in the NL https://www.mlb.com/news/brewers-orioles-benches-clear-after-mccann-confronts-adames?partnerID=web_article-share
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 Pirates always get off to good starts early in April. They will fall off and suck afterwards.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 Dang it, I would’ve made my grand re-entrance in that proposed ban thread. Laila prob was looking at my time left in the box winding down and closed it.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 Jays suck. Watch bb for your fantasy leagues

glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 Strider had UCL surgery and is out for the year. Big blow to the Braves.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 Watching Bryant last night, I thought that and Baez deals had near 100% probability they would fail. I stuggle with the long term big AAV deals. I also thought TEX was nuts signing Seagar, Semien and DeGrom on those deals given ages and IL histories, but flags fly forever. The back ends may still end up being bad deals but when you gamble and win, the investment looks better for both a fan and business metrics. OTOH does BOS regret not locking down Mookie? Juan Soto will probably worth what he will get given his hitting profile and age. But these guys are unicorns. I still don't see Vlad or Bo as perpetual 4+ win candidate mega stars. Bo's D has improved, but he still is a bottom half SS and high chase low BB bats don't age well, even when they start off with great bat to ball skills, on the BABIP train. Vlad looks like '23 Vlad again. Alvarez and Yandy Diaz are providing better production on 6/115 and 3/24 deals (Diaz off to slow early start early '24 - but those deals don't grow on trees either) Some big choices ahead for our team.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 Strider had UCL surgery and is out for the year. Big blow to the Braves. Tough year for titans so far. Cole out for Yanks. HOU not sure on Valdez. We are all whistling past the graveyard on Gausman praying its a blip, which it may be, or not. Arms depth is critical for every org trying to make a run. I wonder if AA regrets the Soroka deal with Strider down. He has been bad but chewing up some IP.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 Hah! Haha. Always seems that way. Need to bet them all the time over the first 2-3 weeks of April. I hope the Pirates can be a surprise team this year. Would be nice to see them get a Wildcard spot.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 Strider had UCL surgery and is out for the year. Big blow to the Braves. That sucks. Strider was my favourite pitcher to watch every 5th day he was on the mound. Would try to watch everyone of his starts. Going to be a depressing 2024 season now. Will try to find another arm to watch.

For SP depth, Braves have Elder, Vines (who they just called up and could start on Tuesday), Winans (sucked in his start), Dodd, and Ynoa. They possibly could call up Hurston Waldrep in June/July, their top pick in the draft last year and he could make a huge impact right away if all goes well. Definitely could be a difference maker. Reynaldo López has looked good early in the rotation. Not sure how long that lasts but hey looks like it's turning out to be a great decision stretching him out as a starter in ST. Fried, Sale, Morton and Lopez is still pretty solid but if they lose another arm, I think the Braves will have to make a trade at the deadline.

Of the two I'd sign Bichette long term but not Guerrero and I think with Bichette's hitting profile that unless he becomes a lot more patient of a hitter, more like he was in the minors as an 8-9% walk rate with a 19.5% k-rate (similar to 2024 actually) I don't see that bat aging well into his early 30s when his reaction times slow down a bit.

Agree its Bo of the two unless you got a friendly deal on Vlad and hope that some of his better underlying numbers start to equate to outcomes more consistently. I'd give him 6/115 Alvarez money no brainer. I don't see Bo's D at SS aging well either. I doubt Bo is going to get any more patient at the plate. He was 10th percentile chase rate in '23 and everyone raves about "leading the league in hits 2/3 years" with him. He relies on his bat to ball skills BAPIP, and seems to be happy with that approach.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 The thing about Bo and Vlad is neither has developed much since coming into MLB - have stayed pretty much the same player other than Vlad's weight yo-yo'ing. Is that on the players or the org?

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 Carlos Correa is made of glass. Right oblique strain and placed on the 10-day IL. He was off to a great start this season as well.

I remember getting into an argument with you a couple years ago about who was the better dynasty asset between him and Story. Sadly the answer kind of seems like neither.

BTS Community Moderator Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 CC for sure. Story is honesty ww material at this point. CC no Well, yeah. But when we were discussing it I think it was in the context of both Correa and Story being like top-50 assets. Now Story is like a fringe top-500 guy and Correa is probably towards the back end of the top-300.

Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 Feels high on Story I doubt this listing had his injury updated by the time it was published, he should drop significantly.

Yeah I want no part of Bichette on a long term, $200-300m contract. His offensive profile with the low walk totals is not going to age well. I actually would have considered trading him prior to 2024 but I realize the Jays operate differently (optics, attendance, etc) so a quick pivot like that was likely never even a consideration. So if the team is still good, then keep him through 2025 and then let him walk as a FA. If the team looks middling by the deadline this season or by the end of the season, then look into trading him. Vlad is more difficult to read because he's legitimately a non tender candidate but his 2025 season prior to hitting free agency could be very tantalizing. Contract years can do that to players sometimes. Either way, he's looked closer to Miguel Sano than Miguel Cabrera, and I'm not banking on that. If he develops later into his career, it likely won't be with the Jays as if they couldn't get the most out of him now, I'm not sure what is going to change. I've said before, if Atkins was better at drafting, then moving on from this core would have been easy. Both Vlad and Bo are flawed enough to where moving on from one or both would be completely reasonable, and wouldn't prevent the team from contending. They kinda have to develop some talent though for that to become a reality.

The much better Fantrax had Story a little behind at 316. Hell drop like a dead fly now. Detmers will skyrocket from #369 soon. Still sick I let him go in BORED, I would’ve obviously found a way to get him back on my roster at this point, shuffling between the 2 rosters. Wasn’t thinking it was goodbye moving him
