5ToolPhenom Verified Member Posted October 25, 2023 Author Posted October 25, 2023 Not sure I'd be laughing at that with what he's doing as a friggin rookie. He's accomplished more playoff success in 1 postseason than Bo/Vlad/Kirk/Jansen/Biggio combined and hes not even done yet lol. Absolutely. He's helped lead the Diamondbacks of all teams to the World Series. Catchers are the leader of a team, the way he's handled that pitching staff as a rookie has been super impressive. Can't believe what a horrible fleecing this trade has been.

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted October 28, 2023 Posted October 28, 2023 Im kinda turning on to the idea that big bat/mediocre pitching teams are far more favorable in the playoffs compared to good pitching/D teams. You look at the teams that won from the last few seasons and its all heavy slugging teams that had a few good pitchers. You have to get there and the pitching is a big factor in that but yes, what the Jays did with Berrios kind of makes your point. They trade 2 top prospects and put $130M into him and pull him early in a elimination game, because of their game management philosophy. If you are going to invest that much of your prospect capital and payroll in a SP, over other options like big bats, then don't you have to utilize them more?

I really like this. I think fans lose this perspective a lot.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted October 29, 2023 Posted October 29, 2023 I don’t think there are very many fans who expect championships every year
PitaBaby Verified Member Posted October 29, 2023 Posted October 29, 2023 I'm sure Shatkins just felt that one. Straight to the core.

gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted October 29, 2023 Posted October 29, 2023 Moreno and Gurriel winning CO - WS MVP would be magical.

max silver Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2023 Posted November 3, 2023 Moreno and Gurriel winning CO - WS MVP would be magical. I'm really sorry that you didn't get your wish here for such a "magical" moment as each of these players had mediocre world series results.

Atkins you idiot Funny how Kirk and Moreno are same guy, except Kirk more durable and as of now has better post season numbers. Atkins did a great job realizing the one with the "better" body artificially had more trade value but Kirk so far has been more durable.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 11, 2025 Posted December 11, 2025 I fully support the bumping of any and all of the threads from this era Certain posters deserve to be tarred and feathered forever based on how they treaded Ross around 2023/2024 Eat My Shatkins, JaysAllMighty and Brownie19 2 1
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 11, 2025 Posted December 11, 2025 Moreno: Hasn't been able to stay healthy Hasn't produced more than 2.7 WAR (#1 being a factor) Kirk: Star level 2025 with 4.7 WAR 4+ WAR projection Signed a very team-friendly extension Is only 15 months older than Moreno Fan favourite Oozes soft skills - leadership, handling pitchers, etc. Varsho: 3.1 WAR in 2024 Played like a 4+ WAR player in 2025 (pro-rated) Safe to close the books on this one. Moreno still has his arb years of control with Arizona but the decision to stick with Kirk and the eventual team-friendly extension wipes that out. Brownie19, Terminator and Spanky__99 3
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted December 11, 2025 Posted December 11, 2025 Imagine Rogers having the patience and foresight to stick with Ross the Boss not just after the disappointment of 2023, but then an anomolous 74 win 2024 as well. Cojones of steel in the face of wavering fan support.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2025 Posted December 11, 2025 Two years after this thread was created, Boss Atkins was literally one inch away from being guaranteed a spot on the Level of Excellence. Crazy in hindsight. But yeah, the glazing of Moreno was exhausting. Glad common sense has come back into the picture.
