From what I read, if no one claims KK, then the Jays can keep him, so it’s really not a big deal. He won’t get claimed. This is just a prayer that someone takes his salary, which isn’t happening barring some desperation by a team out there.

My conclusions are based on his body of work this season and his aloof attitude on the field and the plate. Then this interview where he says, "for me first and foremost I want to win. That would be the number one priority for me if I was choosing a team and the Giants obviously are committed to that". He isn't going to choose TO it seems, so by implication the Jays don't want to win. Kind of a sideways shot at the Jays from my perspective.

I don't think it's surprising for a player to suggest he wants to win - or to suggest that SF is committed to winning. I'm sure he'd tell you that the Dodgers, Yankees, Astros, Red Sox, Braves and several other teams are all also committed to winning. He might even tell you the Jays are committed to winning.

You can draw whatever conclusions you want I guess - I just think it's dumb to try and read into it too much.

That said, he probably feels like the direction of the Jays is going south - which it is. I suspect most the players understand the Jays won't be contending for a World Series anytime soon. If you're an established player who wants to win - you don't want to play for Toronto right now, or for the next several years (even if you do feel as though they are committed to winning).

They can keep him even if someone claims him. They don’t have to worry about that though, as nobody will claim him.

so it sounds like Pearson is going back to starting. Not the worst idea.

Someone is going to have to start when Kikuchi and Gausman or Bassitt are dealt. Preparing for post deadline

Posted

I am in my early 40s so I am old enough to remember the B2B. A few things could be better, but I am in physically good shape - maybe a 7/10 with no known physical ailments. No UPF, drugs, alcohol, or medication.

Hear me out.

Is it possible that I may never see this team win a World Series ever again in my lifetime? Assuming no major wars or other massive external factors, with modern medicine, the average person may live to be around 90-100 years old. Let's say 100.

The Yankees and Red Sox will almost always outspend the Jays, Tampa almost always fields competitive teams, and the Orioles are a wild card but look like a serious team for at least the next 7-8 seasons, I give the Jays like an average probability of 10% of making the post-season in any given year.

There is a moderate-to-high degree of randomness in the post-season, sure, but let's say that the probability of winning the World Series is completely random, so 1 in 12. that's an 8.3% likelihood.

My simple maths says something like: (0.10 * 60) * 0.083 = 0.498

So basically, a 50% probability that the Jays will win at least one more World Series before I depart the earth. :(

I guess that's a bit of a sobering thought. I vividly remember '92 & '93, but I was a kid and I guess I didn't fully embrace the specialness of the moment. For some reason, I thought I'd see many more championships in my lifetime which I guess we can chalk up to the unbridled optimism afforded to youth.

Bo can't wait to get out...

Whatever happened to "I'm a Blue Jay"?

f***ing douche nozzle lol. Can't wait for him to be gone, to be honest.

"I just want to win" while he trots out his sub par play at SS and a sub .600 OPS game after game.

Guess what Bo, you're one of the biggest reasons this team sucks right now.

Francis gets beat up a lot. Any reason to believe that will change or does it just not matter?

His numbers suggest he should be better than the results so far and now would be a perfect opportunity to test him to see if he can be a #5 SP or if he needs to be a long man.

He has a great curveball. I think his issue is leaving fastballs in the zone too much.

This. 100% this.

The results don't matter anymore. See what you've got.

I have no idea if it will work (it probably won't), but I'd have no issues with the Jays converting Pearson to a SP. I thought the moment he became a short reliever that his career would blossom, but if he's an average RP, then he really holds no value. Stretch him out and see if you catch lightning in a bottle.

It's worth a shot. He was borderline DFA for a while, so there's not much to lose

Or he could implode and completely lose his confidence.:P

After the trade deadline the jays should get aggressive with their call ups. I wouldn't mind seeing Chad Dallas or Adam Macko. We're at the point where the high floor low ceiling guys are what this team is about.

Macko left his last start with forearm tightness. He'll probably be available for a callup in 2026 :P

Jesus we chose Turner over Joc Pederson? I can't see the logic in that one besides vetrin presents

https://www.sportsnet.ca/mlb/article/diamondbacks-joc-pederson-blue-jays-had-interest-but-didnt-want-me-as-bad/

“They just I guess didn’t want me as bad as some other teams and weren’t able to really put together an offer when it was time for me to make a decision,” he said. “I was willing to, but I think I ended up in a great place and I’m enjoying it here. But I think Toronto’s also a really good place.”

Seven months later, Pederson doesn’t recall the exact details of those conversations with the Blue Jays. But he does remember being surprised that the Blue Jays didn’t pursue him more intently.

“From the conversations we had on the phone and how interested they were in adding a left-handed bat, their actions didn’t match their words, I guess you could say,” he recalled. “They said everything went really well and then didn’t want to offer what other teams did. So they didn’t make it that tough of a decision.”

Wow. The narrative was Joc preferred the West Coast. If he actually was interested in the Jays and Atkins decided that 67 year old Justin Turner was the better option, then holy s***.

Pederson was the no-brainer choice! younger, left handed, more power

Yeah that's really surprising if the team actually chose Turner when they had a legitimate opportunity to sign Joc. The only benefit I can see is that Turner didn't look like he needed to be platooned at the time of signing and could be closer to a full time player.

Maybe they wanted Turner to teach our guys how to hit like JD Martinez is doing in NY

probably something like that

leadership and s***

I just don't know how you can look at Turner's age and want any part of him when there were other options
