Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2024 Posted March 28, 2024 Honestly I was kind of expecting it to be Pop. He wasn't even good in AAA last year, isn't a 45 FV prospect like Zulu, and his spring training measurables didn't even look good. However, better it's Zulu than someone like Danner or Little. I think the injuries to Romano and Swanson probably saved Pop. He's one more injury away from being on the big league team.
deanmike Verified Member Posted March 28, 2024 Posted March 28, 2024 Ok if this doesn't get me an apology nothing will Dean. And don't forget that ACTIONS (in the form of a Swiss Chalet Gift card) speaks far louder than mere words. Yeah ur never getting an apology or a gift card, cheers (go f*** urself) Sherm
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2024 Posted March 28, 2024 Can someone make me feel better seeing Varsho bat 5th on Opening Day after last year's performance? Anyone please lol.

Kiermaier batting 7th is more confusing to me than Varsho batting 5th, although I am a Varsho fan and believe he will bounce back this season.

Yeah Pop could at least fake it for a while as an MLB reliever Zulueta, he would be pretty much useless on an MLB roster
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2024 Posted March 28, 2024 Can someone make me feel better seeing Varsho bat 5th on Opening Day after last year's performance? Anyone please lol. It's just to break up the lefties. Kirk projects to be a 121 wRC+ hitter and he's batting 6th. The Dodgers 6th hitter only projects to hit 108 wRC+ (just a couple of points above what Varsho projects to hit). Hope that helps.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2024 Posted March 28, 2024 Can someone make me feel better seeing Varsho bat 5th on Opening Day after last year's performance? Anyone please lol. 5th spot is generally the best spot for high power high K guys, Varsho probably has the 3rd/4th best power on the team rn so it makes sense. Whats the other option there? Kirk maybe? Ok, but then that means you have 3 lefties in the 6-9 spots and almost ensures a LOOGY reliever will buzzsaw that portion. Plus having a guy who can steal bases (possibly??) in front of Kirk seems like a good fit

Get the LOOGY in then make him face two good RHB!
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2024 Posted March 28, 2024 Once we get Jansen back this might be the best bench the Jays have had in my lifetime (been watching since '91). Maybe the best in franchise history. This is as much a comment on how bad our benches have been as it is how good this year's version is. I think maybe 2015 is the best I've seen.
deanmike Verified Member Posted March 28, 2024 Posted March 28, 2024 that was quick? The Jays DFA'd a 45 FV prospect, what else did you expect?
wamco Verified Member Posted March 28, 2024 Posted March 28, 2024 I can confirm that it was indeed quick.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 28, 2024 Posted March 28, 2024 that was quick? Zulu claimed by the Reds
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 28, 2024 Posted March 28, 2024 The Jays DFA'd a 45 FV prospect, what else did you expect? Just don't think I have ever seen a waiver claim happen so fast
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 28, 2024 Posted March 28, 2024 Now I am getting Miguel Castro vibes
deanmike Verified Member Posted March 28, 2024 Posted March 28, 2024 Just don't think I have ever seen a waiver claim happen so fast Honest question because I don't know the answer to this or even where to look for the answer, but when was the last time a 45 FV prospect got DFA'd?
The_DH Verified Member Posted March 28, 2024 Posted March 28, 2024 waivers are normally 2 days not 2 hours. For some reason this was done a few days ago but announced today.

Laika Community Moderator Posted March 28, 2024 Posted March 28, 2024 Honest question because I don't know the answer to this or even where to look for the answer, but when was the last time a 45 FV prospect got DFA'd? Probably more common than you think, just tends not to happen the spring immediately after being labelled a 45 FV. Maybe that rank was bogus though. His stuff doesn't seem that special when you consider the shape of his pitches. Also, Zulueta is older than your typical prospect. Lots of the flop 50+ FVs get dumped but they just tend to get traded for cash first, and then a year later DFAd.

I don't think the team realistically views Zulueta as a 45 FV anymore. He's probably barely a 40 in their eyes. 26 year old reliever with no command and big stuff are a dime a dozen. The Jays scooped up Junior Fernandez last season for "free" on a minor league deal, who is basically literally the same player and nobody batted an eye when he was gone.

WryNGinger Verified Member Posted March 29, 2024 Posted March 29, 2024 I didn't realize that Zulueta was that old. He definitely got a decent number of chances with the Jays, sucks he didn't work out. Next.
