Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2024 Posted February 16, 2024 A good chunk of that pouch could very well be loose skin due to the year's of featuring an oversized belly. No he wasn’t obese enough to have excessive loose skin. Everyone has places they put on weight first. For most its belly, chest or glutes. Its very difficult to lose weight from that spot you gain weight first. Its why love handles is the biggest pain spot for most. Those fat cells are still in your body making it easier to put it all back on. Its why putting on muscle is the best form of weight loss because it destroys more of those cells. You can lose weight a variety of ways. But someone who just does cardio and no resistance training is way more likely to put the weight back on. His body is looking very muscular and athletic. Consistency throughout the Season will be his next big hurdle. Eating on the road is probably tough for him.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2024 Posted February 16, 2024 If all our fatties suddenly come to camp in shape, then that’s certainly a good start.
RobinThicc Verified Member Posted February 16, 2024 Posted February 16, 2024 Vlads approach held him back last year, though not being fat cant hurt. Some of his AB's last yea made no sense.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2024 Posted February 16, 2024 It's been two days and Alek Manoah is taking the Best Shape of His Life trope to new heights. I don't know how much longer I can hold off on the Kool-Aid. He not only lost all that weight but he's saying all the right things as well. He's actually kind of likable right now. Huge fan of Mrs. Manoah for getting her fat ass husband in gear. Can you pick an avatar and stick with it please? The server is getting overloaded.

Well I had a lot of complaints filed against me for the "dying monkey" and hope springs eternal so it was time for a change. I've been toying with some different options and I'm always open to feedback but I'll probably stick with the current one for now.

max silver Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2024 Posted February 16, 2024 With Skinny Vlad how many balls are gonna die on the warning track I'd say it's more like the jacked version of Vlad vs the skinny version of Vlad.

max silver Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2024 Posted February 16, 2024 A '21 Vlad. I don't recall him ever looking like the recent photos. Hopefully it helps prevent recurrence of the wrist and knee issues and allows him to return to peak production.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2024 Posted February 16, 2024 Kirk still looks fat Yeah I'm seeing lots of back sweat in those bullpens he's catching.

Kid has ridiculous flexibility, reaction time and eye hand co-ordination. His framing and blocking skills are so good. His contact rates are super elite. Getting in shape would and 1 to 2 wins a season for the kid. How do you convince a guy to get in shape?

That leaves 3 spots on the bench. How you got? Schneider, Espi, Escobar, Vogelbach, Clement, Barger, Martinez, Lukes, Horowitz.

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2024 Posted February 17, 2024 Whit 1/8. Some were talking 2-3 year deal north of $20M comparing him to Zobrist. Never made sense to me. I am a bit surprised the market was so weak for him though. He relies on BABIP so much.

His final two months of the season in particular were awful as he was literally one of the worst qualified hitters in all of MLB. (46 wRC+ over 201 PA)

I don’t think guys like Chapman and Bellinger will get the huge deals they’re looking for. Even Candelario’s deal was light.

max silver Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2024 Posted February 17, 2024 That’s the Randall Grichuk special A quick glance at Fangraphs actually shows he's historically been a stronger second half player. Career 1st Half 92 wRC+ 2nd Half 108 wRC+ His numbers took a bit of a tumble after the midseason trade, but he still managed a 97 wRC+ in the second half so it's not a terribly apt comparison to the nearly league worst struggles of no hit Whit.
