Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted January 18, 2024 Posted January 18, 2024 Every time the Padres come up my brain goes into massive surprise blockbuster mode because they have so many "good" players who's values are tanked because of the terrible contracts they gave them, and they are supposedly cutting payroll. In comes big bad Ross AlphAtkins and his massive swinging dick to throw Rogers weight around and rape and pillage those poor bastards and somehow walk away with Tatis in his back pocket.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 So rotation and depth is now Gausman Berrios Bassitt Kikuchi Tiedemann Manoah Rodriguez Among the last 3 at least one makes the rotation out of spring training obviously and it's possible that 2 could make it and supplant Kikuchi Not a bad position to be in

He was simply too damn good for the bulk of the season to be in any danger of losing his rotation spot.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 One year of Kim for Manoah is risky Kim wanted to be a Blue Jay initially. I don't think it would be difficult to get him extended.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 Glad to see the Rogers sisters getting the boot. With the boys fully in charge this can only mean good things for the baseball team. GO JAYS https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-01-17/rogers-scions-to-leave-board-in-settlement-of-family-squabble?leadSource=reddit_wall
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 Yeah and Francis and White will also play a factor. The nice thing is they're only needed in a disaster scenario or a spot start maybe on a double header or something
Cbert Verified Member Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 Mlbtv has this deal off by 1.0 Manoah Espinal Garcia For Kim Espinal plus Garcia salary 1m more than Kim I think. Would you do that? I think I would as I see upper minors bullpen as our strength. Not sure I’d do a Manoah for Kim trade. I think BTV really undervalues 4 years of cheap Manoah. Look at the Marlins. Cabrera and Rogers are pretty meh pitchers but each are worth double or more on BTV than Manoah. I’d rather look at moving Kikuchi in this sort of trade. Kooch and Barger gets it close I would think.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 The nice thing is they're only needed in a disaster scenario or a spot start maybe on a double header or something White has no options, he'll be on the roster, bro.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 [Heyman] The hitting market — Jorge Soler, J.D. Martinez, Justin Turner and Rhys Hoskins — is heating up. The Jays are a front-runner for Soler, with the Diamondbacks and Red Sox also interested.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 That seems like a terrible deal for the Jays. I disagree. I like it for both teams. Kim would be huge pickup. Gives the Jays a much needed element of speed, gets on base, and there's more in the bat for sure. Manoah underlying numbers were terrible last Season. There's a chance he doesn't even make the rotation out of Spring and if he doesn't pitch better his trade value will plummet even further. Espinal and Garcia are very replicable pieces. Don't even view them as losses.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 Also not sure why you’d think Kim has “more in the bat” but Manoah is toast at age 26
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 Also not sure why you’d think Kim has “more in the bat” but Manoah is toast at age 26 Jonn would be the worst GM ever...
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 Well Kim has been steadily improving as he adjusts to MLB and that lead to a 4.4 WAR age 27 season. Manoah did the opposite as ballooned to over 320 pounds and put up a negative WAR season. In theory, it's risky trading 4 years of Manoah but in reality the guy who was a frontline starter is probably gone. And I don't hate him like some, I think he can be serviceable moving forward but there is a chance that he's cooked. So there's risk to trading him and there is risk to not trading him while he still has value. Plus, one year of Kim is nothing to sneeze at on its own. But he seems like the kind of 2nd tier player that Atkins could lock up to a Berrios or Springer like contract and that would allow us some flexibility with Bo who we could deal or let walk in FA.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 Jonn is right on this one and the Manoah fanboys are wrong.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 Where'd this Kim news come from anyway?
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 Where'd this Kim news come from anyway? Morosi was typing up garbage about how Manoah could be a fit for the Padres and we ran wild with it.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 Also not sure why you’d think Kim has “more in the bat” but Manoah is toast at age 26 I never once said Manoah is toast. You aren’t getting Kim for nothing. Moving on from Manoah as the main piece to get a big addition at a position of need is a good piece of business. He in no way contributed to a playoff team last Season. In fact you could say he negatively impacted the team for how long they allowed him to struggle. Kim coming off nearly a 6 WAR season would be a huge get. Absolute risk you can’t resign him but the Blue Jays window to win is now. And I like the move. It’s not easy to find players like that. And yes you’re trading some control but its an asset with a lot of question marks.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 Jonn would be the worst GM ever... You’re always so f***ing negative for no reason. Imagine being this insufferable all the time.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 And the last thing I will say on this is I don’t think the Padres make that trade either. I would think they would want a more enticing package of prospects over Manoah coming off a horrendous Season. He couple be part of the trade. But certainly not the main piece.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 You’re always so f***ing negative for no reason. Imagine being this insufferable all the time. Panties in a bunch, mate? Barger, Biggio and White gets you Kim, they're strapped for cash. They wouldn't even want Yimi, unless we ate the contract.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 Panties in a bunch, mate? Barger, Biggio and White gets you Kim, they're strapped for cash. You’re high as f*** if you think that’s all it would take to get Kim. White was literally DFA’d and not claimed. Biggio a career role player with limitations Barger could be a piece in a trade but I think people on this board over hype his value.

They're trying to contend while cutting money, it's the only reason there's rumours to Kim. No leverage buddy boy, lol.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 Jonn is right on this one and the Manoah fanboys are wrong. Hardly a fan boy, if Kim were to move for him straight up, I'd be on board.
