Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2023 Posted September 12, 2023 I don't think that's true. We tried to put it in and it f***ed up a bunch of things. Also a pain in the ass to figure out who is a troll and who isn't as we go to approve. the bots should were getting caught by the outside company he hired, but I think he downgraded the service level now that it isn't his business. I see, makes sense. But at least the waiting period stops dildos' such as tonight.

Pinkfloid Verified Member Posted September 12, 2023 Posted September 12, 2023 Hate that we need to win these final 3 games to have the tiebreaker over Texas. Such a frustrating year where we can beat up on teams that have no bearing on the postseason but keep s***ing the bed against almost every meaningful opponent.
mphenhef Verified Member Posted September 12, 2023 Posted September 12, 2023 Turning point in the game was the dumbass send of KK with no outs. Killed the rally. That idiot should have been let go a long time ago. that was yet another baffling send. It wasn't as bad as some of the others he has done this year where it was obvious a guy would be DOA but the fact it happened with 0 outs is a cardinal baseball sin. It's just the way this season has gone. The players aren't accountable, the coaches aren't accountabl;e

Bassitt having trouble with command and escaping barely each inning? Send him back there. Cabrera sucking? Leave him in. Kikuchi struck out the last three batters and gave up a run in his 5 innings while allowing less than a baserunner per inning? Yank him at 88 pitches!

Also calls into question what exactly he is using to determine these pitching changes. If it’s aNaLyTiCs when it comes to Kikuchi, then what was the logic behind keeping Bassitt in the game last night when he not only looked like s*** but was giving away free runs? It couldn’t have been data, and it certainly wasn’t the eye test, so what was it? And what was different between that and Kikuchi looking good for 5 innings and being pulled? This org needs a complete coaching overhaul. It’s ridiculous. I mean, Schneider did what he did in Game 2 last season, and it still took Atkins 25 seconds to write up a contract extension, so maybe the front office is the issue here, but some of the decisions have been ridiculous.

Decisions that make sense and fail are fine. Sometimes players don’t come through. Decisions like last night, much like everything he did in Game 2 last year, are not fine. At least when a SP is pulled early we can guess that maybe he felt tired or communicated to them that he was gassed, or something. What logic is there behind a decision like last night with Bassitt, when there’s an entire season of sample size that shows that Schneider can’t wait to go to the pen even when the starter is doing well? Analytics? Eye test? Blind faith? If you’re going to manage every game like Game 7 of a playoff series even when it’s game 37 against the Royals, then why isn’t the same urgency there when it’s the biggest series of the season to date?

It's not rocket science. Bassitt has a track record of pitching deep into games. He also does not suffer from a big TTO penalty at all, probably due to all of his pitches. OPS of opponents 1st PA: .665 2nd PA: .704 3rd PA: .700 Kikuchi has a very different track record. *note that I am just speaking generally. I do agree that Bassitt did not have it last night and was probably left in too long*

Jays333 Verified Member Posted September 12, 2023 Posted September 12, 2023 Yah I dont know. We barely went 10-5 against the absolute worst teams in the league. Some games were close a couple different bounces and it could have easily been 8-7. This team is so streaky and unable to put it all together for long stretches, it would be completely on brand to go 9-9 in the last 18 games and miss the playoffs by one or two games.

You never played baseball eh? A couple of different bounces and we easily could have been 12-3. See how easy (and stupid) that is?

See how easy (and stupid) that is? Point is we should not be playing those types of games against those types of teams at this point of the season. We looked very much near the same level as them during those series, now a much better team like Texas comes in and blows us out. Not a good look going into the final 3 weeks.

That isn't really how baseball works. Top teams don't beat bottom teams 10-0 every game.

Yah but the good teams over a 3 game series "most" of the time come out looking like they have seperated themselves from the inferior team . There did not look to me like there was much seperation at all over 9 games against the 3 worst teams in the league. Yes we won 7 of those but it was far from convincing. Then to get blown out against solid competition immediately following is not a great look, all im saying.

They make decisions that don't make sense a good amount of time. When that happens, people will call them out on it. This is an org that intentionally benched Davis Schneider for a week in order to play Espinal when DS was having one of the most historic starts in league history. I'm not giving them the benefit of the doubt on s*** that's clearly wrong. If JS brings in Romano in a save situation and Romano blows it, then that's not on the manager. When Carlos Santana is up in a playoff game and his only skill at this point is hitting LHP, and you bring in a LH reliever who is significantly worse against RHB to face him with runners on base, then that's pretty cut and dry. All I'm saying is, keeping Bassitt in the game was not only inconsistent with how JS has managed all season, but didn't make sense given how Bassitt looked all game. It didn't pass the eye test or the stat test.

Anybody is susceptible to overthinking a given situation, or making a bad judgement call. You make it sound like they're incapable of ever making a wrong decision. Time to get off the high horse.

That's really sad. That same logic should extend to other teams too then. Every decision the Rockies make is good because they too hire people to run a multi million dollar business, and they have better information than all of us, so that explains why their moves don't make sense to the general public. We don't have the right information. I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. If you believe this team can't make a wrong decision or be questioned for any decisions, then we will have to agree to disagree. People are going to question decisions, inconsistencies, etc. It happens. If you want to argue back (ex. I thought keeping Bassitt in the game was wrong, you could easily argue why that was not the case), then that's fine, but if the only argument is "they have information none of us do so let's accept it", then that kinda defeats the purpose of a message board.
